Article by James Borges — from Journal of Borderland Research (Vol. LVI, No. 1, 1st Quarter 2000)

In the mid 1800s Baron Karl von Reichenbach opened a whole vista of new knowledge when he discovered the existence and properties of what he called Od force, a force that flows from minerals and light, in plants and animals, and even radiates from the stars. The Od, the Odic force, named for the Norse god Odin, the “all transcending one,” and the Norse word “voda”, which means “I go quickly…! stream forth”. A mysterious force that permeates all things, that is everywhere present, and surely must be easily revealed, but is actually perceptible to very few.

How then is it that such a subtle force came to be discovered?

The Baron, a scientist foremost, developed his ideas through rigorous experiment: special darkrooms were created that were connected to wires that would conduct Od from plates that collected the force from the Sun or Moon; minerals, magnets and crystals were brought into the darkrooms via special rotating tables that permitted no light to enter. Various displays of Odic force manifested themselves during these experiments, elaborate descriptions of which may be found in his own writings.

Reichenbach, perhaps curiously, also utilized sensitives for his research. It was during his early work with Somnambulism that he was introduced to the idea of sensitives, and from this he posulated that sleepwalkers are sensitive or allergic to something being carried in on the moonlight, an Odic agitation. The theory opened his mind to the possibility of humans sensing his Odic force directly.

In his wide travels, Reichenbach met many people who claimed to be “sensitives”, and he used a wide range of these sensitives in his research, from medically-trained professionals to the inmates of some few asylums. Over time, the Baron would eventually begin to see these Odic displays himself in small measure, his persistent endeavor into Odic research changing his perceptions, but the sensitives remained his primary sources in his experiments.

Od is best detected through certain materials that focus it more than others— for example, it was seen to dance and glide in spectacular beauty when it flowed along magnets and crystals. Reichenbach used the term “concentrator” when discussing these Od sources, as Od is not generated by these objects at all; he declared that the Odic streams “flowed on eternally”, as it flows through the Earth, and travels along the light that streams from the Sun, Moon, and stars.

One of Baron von Reichenbach’s most moving early accounts of his Odic force come from his first introduction of bar magnets into his darkroom experiments. In one such account, he wrote that bright blue flames issued from the north pole, cold and soothing, and from the south poles, red flames, hot and irritating; glittering rainbows, or dark rainbows, could be seen radiating around the largest magnets. Magnets, it seemed, were the strongest Od concentrator . . .

Until crystal formations were introduced to the sensitives. When Reichenbach later introduced a large crystal into the darkroom, it appeared to be “streaming with fine white Odic light of great power”. “Lost Science” by Gerry Vassilatos summarizes Reichenbach’s descriptions further:

“The sharp crystals point projected a deep blue Od jet, some eight inches long. This bright blue projection was in constant motion. Emitting numerous sparks, the flame-jet in the space beyond the sharp point was tulip shaped. Turning the crystal around, the broken crystal base revealed a dense red and yellow smoke.”

As one discovery led to another, Reichenbach further added that his Odic force would flow through wires, and that flames and hot and cold sensations traveled along their length. It must surely have been a magnificent sight to behold. If only it were not limited to observations of his sensitives.

At first glance, it might seem that we are suggesting only sensitives can access these experiences, or that these experiences are the vain imaginings of deranged minds, it may be possible for everyone to participate in this knowledge. We look to Rudolf Steiner, the founder of Anthroposophy and a pioneer in spiritual science, a man who advanced the ideas of an ether with very similar properties to Reichenbach’s Od, for a means to gain access to these perceptions.

Steiner believed that all human beings had senses that could perceive the ethers, and that, especially through Initiation and mental discipline, these senses could be awakened. This is key: the idea that the mind may be trained to see subtle forces, like the Odic force, through a gradual awakening of the senses. It may explain the Baron’s developed ability to observe the Odic displays after a vigorous and extended research— his consciousness was expanded to perceive the subtle qualities.

We believe that these powerful claims are worthy of further investigation, and that the experiments of the Baron can be reproduced. By combining several of the Baron’s discoveries into one small unit, we will attempt to focus the Odic force in a darkroom (and detail how you may attempt the same). We note that it may not be possible to observe the colorful displays described by Reichenbach’s sensitives in our first attempts— we must wait and watch with open minds. The Process itself must precede the experience. Experiments in this vein serve as excellent objects of meditation, a means for the senses to develop.

To start, we can easily obtain (and combine) magnets, wire, and crystals. As this experiment requires a darkroom, a windowless space may be ideal if available, but heavy curtains or wool blankets over windows and doors in the space you plan to conduct the experiments should suffice. You will need to set up a space for a jar to be eye level on a table, three of four feet from a comfortable chair, where you can remain relaxed and alert. The length of time the experimenter can remain in the dark with his mind focused on the object should be prolonged as long as possible. As the experiments continue, the length of time should steadily grow longer, your attention is being disciplined not to wander. This is often difficult, as the eyes tend to wander about looking for light, but the more the eyes become attuned to the Odic luminosity, the longer the gaze may be focused, the more time spent in deep observation.

As always, keep a written record of all experiences during these experiments, even a lack of phenomenon. Observe without judgment, perform without the “lust of result”. Our proposed experiment runs approximately the course of a week, and is meant to be repeated for up to a year or longer. The senses will gradually become more sensitive to the subtle formative forces at play within growing crystals and along the surface of the bar magnets.

EXPERIMENT ONE: Crystal Od

In large jar mix one cup of salt with two cups water. Mix well to create a saturate solution. Drop three or four lengths of wire about four inches long into the solution. Place jar uncovered under a bright desk lamp for several hours.

Observation 1Before crystals form: close jar and bring into the darkroom, place on table. Observe any phenomenon and write it down in your record. Return the jar to the bright lamp for several more hours. Repeat this process for several days until crystal salt cubes form on the wires.
Observation 2Bring the jar with the crystals into the darkroom, observe any phenomenon and write it in your record. Note ant similarities or differences in the Odic light that you perceive.
Observation 3Remove the wire with salt crystal from jar, gently shake off excess water. Retire into darkroom. Hold one end of wire with right hand and the other with the left hand.. Observe any Odic effects from the crystal. Note any sense of Odic currents in the hands, arms, chest. Write these experience in your record.

EXPERIMENT 2: Magnetic Od

The Odic forces focused by magnets are good for observation. The darkroom, chair and table along with two bar magnets are required for these observations.

Observation 1Place single magnet on table in darkroom. Observe any phenomenon, write in your record.
Observation 2Place two magnets in proximity to each other: attracting one another but not touching. Note any differences from the single magnet observations.
Observation 3Place two magnets in proximity to each other; repelling each other. Note the differences from the single magnet and any differences from the attracting magnets.

EXPERIMENT 3: Focused Od

Whereas the previous experiments dealt with focused Odic forces, this experiment is an attempt to show that Odic concentrators (magnets and crystals) may be combined to achieve a very high concentration of the Odic force.

Observation 1Place two bar magnets upright three inches apart from each other. Suspend each end of the wire with a crystal from the top of the bar magnets. Observe and record as before.
Observation 2Suspend crystal and wire from either face, front or back, of the upright magnets. Observe any differences and record.
Observation 3Suspend crystal and wire from either face of the upright magnets. Then suspend a bare wire from the opposite side near the base of the magnets.

Have you performed these experiments? Tell us about your results.

Article by James Borges — from Journal of Borderland Research (Vol. 58, No. 1, Annual for 2004)

Our only real tool on the Borderlands of Science is our perception, so it is common to view the teachers and healers of Radionics as special, and they are special, but no more so than the rest of us. These pioneers have by chance, or genetics, had an advantage perceiving the invisible realms of vibration — the natural ability to detect vibrations in these individuals was some how heightened. Many times these individuals learned to train their talents and focus their perceptions with meditation and other techniques they acquired from the Mystery Schools.

So it is on the path of technique and training that even the most insensitive person may develop these natural senses. The human nervous system was built to detect radiations of an extremely subtle nature — it is hard wired into the survival system of our bodies. The nervous system is sensitive to the cells pulsating and the atoms revolving, and to the rhythms of the etheric; we can identify even the radiation of particular atomic structures like gold or liver tissue. It merely takes experience and practice.

We will here outline two experiments that will train the nervous system to detect both gold and liver tissue. If the experiments are strictly adhered to over time the results will get better and better; this is the evidence: the gradual improvement of the ability to detect the presence of a particular energy structure, be it gold, tissue, or even auras and such subtle fields. You will become familiar with the sense of success, and also that of failure. You will learn to listen to your nervous system and muscular system interacting with the vital forces, subtle manifestations, and all forms of physical vibrations.

You can use a pendulum, Cameron Aura-Meter, or L-rods for the experiments, whichever tool you are most comfortable with. The tool is just a focus for information from the nervous system; it is transduced into very subtle electro-muscular responses that cause the tools to move. The skill is in using your nervous system to perceive the radiations, and eventually the tools themselves will be cast aside as the perceptions become heightened.

For the first exercise you will need a gold coin, three or more envelopes, and cardboard to slide into each envelope. You can get a Year 2000 gold dollar from any bank without much trouble. Cut three or more strips of cardboard so that all are exactly equal and that they fit inside the envelopes. On one of the pieces of cardboard cut a round hole in just the top layer of the cardboard, large enough to insert the gold dollar. Tape over the dollar to keep it in place, as it should be a flat surface. Put it in the envelope and put a tiny red dot on just one side. Put the other two cardboards into the envelopes. Seal all three envelopes.

Shuffle the envelopes until you have forgotten which is which and place them on the floor. You can try many variations: place one in each direction, place them all in same direction, etc. Now try to determine which envelope contains the gold coin, being certain to keep notes of your observations, every hit and every miss. Determine the best set up and stick to it for a while until you get better and better at it.

The second exercise is to give a practical experiment in medical radiesthesia. We can detect the radiations of particular tissues. To determine if a organ is unhealthy, it seems that some time should be spent getting to know that frequency of radiation, then we can determine if an organ is diseased or about to become so. This second exercise needs a hunk of liver from a chicken or from a cow, three bowls, and three cardboard covers that cover the bowls. Place the liver in one of the bowls. For this it is best to have someone else shuffle the bowls, as you can feel the weight difference. (You have a good friend who will help you shuffle raw liver in a bowl, don’t you?) Determine with whichever instrument you have chosen which bowl has the liver. Over time you will be able to detect liver vibrations. While these are dead cells, the atomic structure is intact as long as the liver is fresh; our own attempts to see if we could determine how long liver tissue had been dead was a bit gross and had to be tossed before we could get any real idea.

Dowsing Clips

http://www.hlla.com/reference/dowsing.html:

Dowsers have frequently conducted experiments at dowsing conventions in which they passed electricity through ground, and found they could easily pick up the resulting electromagnetic energies. Scientists have identified three sensors that can pick up this electromagnetic information. One is near or in the pituitary gland (in the brain), and there is one on each adrenal gland (near each kidney). The theory is that by comparing the information from these three internal sensory points, the brain can determine both the distance and direction of an electromagnetic-source without our conscious awareness–much in the way the brain uses the two eyes to calculate how far away an object is, another thing the brain does without us consciously thinking about it.

http://www.connect.ab.ca/~tylosky/:

Divining rods and all common dowsing devices, are the simplest forms of electroscopes. The bent rod for example is just a variation of Gilbert’s straw needle electroscope. The divining rods are charged with static electricity from the dowser’s own body. This static electricity can be seen quite adequately with a simple millivolt meter. This voltage is measured between the hands of the dowser, to measure this voltage accurately a diff amp should be used at the input to the voltmeter, “this eliminates stray signals which are common to both hands”. The amount of voltage will vary depending on the person. A good dowser will have a high reading, “above 100 mv” while a poor dowser may read as low as,”0 mv.”. For males the right hand is usually a negative polarity, and the left hand is positive in polarity. These polarities are usually reversed in females.

Article by Charles Allon — from Journal of Borderland Research (Vol. 52, No. 3, 3rd Quarter 1996)

Introduction

Plants are in a state of absolute fusion with their environment. When connected to audio monitors, plants behave as extremely sensitive thermal, barometric, hydrologic, chemical, and electromagnetic sensors. Responding to every nuance of natural expression, plants are sensory beings whose capacity exceeds the expectations of orthodox science.

Plants respond to energetic applications not normally detected in conventional measuring devices. Because plants are living things, they are privy to biodynamic vectors which do not resolve into combinations of simple inert forces. In well controlled settings, plants evidence responses which are remarkably complex. In these responses, plants reveal themselves as far more developed beings than orthodox botany leads us to believe.

While the experiential content of plant life cannot be affirmed through any objective means, we do find evidence of their strong response to biodynamic stimuli which human beings do not normally sense. Observing that the application of ground currents to houseplants evoked mysterious audio fluctuations, we began to perform an interesting group of experiments last spring. In these, I believe you will find proof of the objective foundation supporting Radionic Science.

Botanists observe the absorptive-assimilative process in plants and erroneously equate these with the life of plants. They are sure that the nutritive requirements of plants are limited to mineral waters, carbon dioxide, and sunlight. Believing that plant life is the sum of these nutrients, orthodox botanists reject any experimental evidence of life organizing energies. The existence of such a “vitalizing energy” would displace these “nutritive requirements” from their modern place as “first cause”, the latter being relegated to mere effects.

Modern Biology over quotes the phrase “life comes from life”, meaning by this that cellular reproduction is the generative agency in all life forms. It is for this reason that botanists believe that cellular absorptions and assimilations represent interactive processes which, in the absence of additional material, should operate continuously. The concept which cites cellular activity and cellular momentum as the life generative principle fails in several instances. Most obviously, such cellular momentum fails to explain the death process. Dr. Jagadis Bose showed that when plants are separated from their familiar grounds, they go into a state of “shock”, some eventually dying.

To continue with a little history, let us look at some of the most intriguing experiments which have shown the intimate relationship plants have with the vital energy of ground currents. Dr. George Starr White was one of the first to experiment with ground rods and plants. Running copper wires from a grounded copper rod into a series of potted plants, Dr. White found that this simple arrangement greatly stimulated the life processes of his test plants. Wired plants grew taller and flourished. It was remarked that these plants produced better foliage, more beautiful flowers, and more succulent fruit.

In addition, Dr. White dug irrigation ditches along tree rows, driving in 6 foot iron posts into the ditch every 15 feet. Thick copper wire was run between each of these ground rods and buried at a depth of 2 feet. This wire was pinched up underneath the root system of each tree and connected to the next ground rod of the sequence. In this way, all of the trees in a row were grounded through the copper wire. Plants in their natural setting receive a fixed ground current supply directly through their root systems. Dr. White, in his early investigations, established that metal grounds enhanced the life force in plants. His early experiments with natural earth currents revealed that plants need specific ground currents by which their life force is greatly magnified.

These remarkable results became the foundation of a new horticultural science. Dr. White adopted the method of wiring all kinds of plants to deep ground rods, discovering enormous improvements over traditional chemical manipulations. To improve the quality and strength of trees, for example, Dr. White placed single coils of 1 inch iron mesh completely around the trunks. Secured at a depth of four inches within the soil, these grounded coils stimulated the production of stronger and more fruitful trees. Dr. White tied plates of tin to the upper branches of his fruit trees, discovering that this procedure greatly increased the ground drawn effects. He eventually found that the storage of seeds in grounded iron boxes stimulated germination with an unprecedented vigor. His work in therapeutic applications of these discoveries had already been demonstrated.

Georges Lakhovsky later made contributions in this new and exciting field of study, focussing all of his attentions on the effect of resonant loop therapies. Placing opened metallic loops a few inches off the ground around plants, he found that plants which suffered from various ailments were suddenly and completely cured. Eliminating the need for most of the insecticides and other chemical poisons normally applied in such instances, Lahovsky pioneered a natural method of medical therapy in human subjects. Long before he conceived of the multiple wave oscillator, a device which irritates its subjects with an electrostatic barrage, he worked with the naturopathic energies of these “open circuit” loops.

Plants absorb gases and mineral waters only because they are biodynamically activated by an external energy. These studies and others show that plants function because they first absorb radionic currents from the ground and from space. Vegetative life functions all but cease in the absence of radionic currents. In this vantage, we study the processes which precede plant metabolism. Indeed, we will learn that the radionic earth currents comprise the fundamental nutritive need of plants. We will therefore focus attention on the energetic precursors to plant life, the radionic currents which raise vegetative forms up from mineral matter. In this series of experiments, we will use plants as objective detectors of subjective energies. Plants themselves will prove the objective reality of radionic ground currents.

DETERMINING THE RADIONIC SELECTIVITY OF PLANTS

MATERIALS:

  • 1 or more Micronta Biosensors (Radio Shack)*
  • 2 Extension wires with soldered copper electrodes
  • Several plants
  • Large plastic drinking cups
  • Ringstand with rubberized clamp
  • 1 – 2″ C-clamp
  • Copper ground rod
  • Several stage variable capacitor (medium to large volume)
  • Long extension wires
  • Wire stripper

PREPARATIONS

Although my last article contained some of this preliminary information, many have requested further elucidation on the preparatory methods necessary for these experiments.

You will need to obtain several Biosensor devices for comparative studies among plants (see editor’s note). The Biosensor changes galvanic skin response to audio fluctuations. Once you make the necessary modifications on your Biosensors for plant experiments, they will not be very useful for personal biofeedback readings.

For plant experiments, the electrodes must be well exposed and unencumbered. There are several ways to contact the leaf tissue, but by far the best means uses the stainless steel electrodes in the finger pads. To expose them completely for plant experiments, carefully clip the Velcro bands around the electrodes. DO NOT CUT the lead wires at any point! Carefully trim away the material around the electrodes.

The ringstand you have chosen MUST be equipped with rubberized clamps if you are going to use the clamps to attach directly to the electrodes. These will hold the electrodes to the plant leaves without shorting out the Biosensor. The best way to attach the electrodes to the plant is with a small two inch C-clamp. This clamp will fit snugly in the clamp of the ringstand and will provide for greater ease of applying the sensitive amounts of pressure required by the electrodes. You will need to insulate the contact points of the C-clamp from the electrodes, and this can be done with any type of cloth tape.

Another means by which we may contact plant tissue requires two small copper alligator clips (obtained from Radio Shack) and two extension wires. Simply clip off the electrodes and solder the wires to the Biosensor leads. Then solder the clips to the ends of these extension leads. Cover the solder points with electrical tape. These clips must be closely placed side by side on the leaf. This method contacts plant sensitivities along the veins of the plant, and always requires a higher gain setting before the audio signals register. While this is not the most preferred contact format, it does permit certain other freedoms. When contacting leaf tissue with alligator clips, one must make absolutely sure that the leads cannot and do not move! The leads must be supported against gravity. Any movement will invalidate your findings.

You may wish to use several plants for the experiment. Select different varieties. These may be purchased or, better yet, taken from the ground nearby. Wildflowers have proven to be excellent specimens for these experiments. I have found that large plastic cups serve well as insulated containers. Place your plants in these if you have decided to use wildflowers. Water the leaves and roots well, and allow at least a week for the plant to acclimate to its new home.

As we are going to implement energies from a ground source, make sure you set up your experimental arrangement near the source of your choice. If you have chosen to use a ground rod, make sure that there is a window which can access the long lead wire. Set the arrangement on a sturdy table with adequate access to the lead wire from ground. Several of our readers may not have the necessary proximity to ground which they would like. In some cases, an ordinary water faucet ground has been found to be equally effective. Cold water pipes are good sources of ground currents.

Loop the stripped end of a long wire to either your ground rod or the cold tap of your kitchen sink. Make sure there is enough stripped metal surface in contact with your ground source. If you use a ground rod, try using a copper conduit pipe. These can be obtained for a few dollars in any hardware store. Get a 2 foot section. Wet the ground you have chosen for your site. Wearing gloves, carefully drive the pipe into the ground until about 9 inches remain above the surface. Strip the free end of your lead wire and wrap this wire around the pipe. Use electrical tape to hold the wire firmly in place.

If you are using a kitchen sink, simply strip the free end of a wire and wrap it around the base of the cold water tap. Wrap with rubber tape and draw the wire up to your experimental arrangement. You are now ready to begin the experiments.

EXPERIMENT 1

Before we begin to use our plants, or attach the tuning capacitor, there are several key items with which you should become experientially familiar. The ground line is electrically neutral. Electrical measuring instruments require two comparative connection points. We cannot measure or define an electrical potential from this monopolar wire, since this procedure requires another ground reference. Using two copper ground rods or two cold water pipes results in electrical zero readings. One might as well connect a galvanometer to itself!

The energy is not electrical. Neither is it electrostatic. Tests with electroscopes do not show any deflection. In addition, those who declare these currents are produced by either powerlines or radio signals will be disappointed! It has been found that these energies flow through components which rectify all such electrical currents. Electrically neutral wires, prepared to exclude all interferences, stimulate surprisingly powerful responses in biomonitored plants. Therefore, the grounded wire is electrically neutral but is not energetically neutral.

Ground currents have certain characteristics which differ completely from those of electrical currents. Electricity will flow between any two points of different potential. Ground currents will not always flow between two points of differing electrical potential. Ground currents are biodynamic currents, one of whose attributes consists of patterns. Ground currents will flow only when a capacity to absorb certain patterns is present. In the absence of these patterns, no current will flow. Hence, no current may initially be detected or sensed. It is the “pattern demand” which stimulates the flow of ground currents — an attribute not shared by electrical currents.

Each person has specific “pattern demands” for radionic currents. This is evidence of differences in human condition, not evidence that radionic currents do not objectively exist! There are those who do not comprehend how an energized line can produce no effect in certain people. Radionic ground currents are potentials which must find capacities for their patterns in order to flow. If the proper pattern demanding capacities are present in us, then we will feel the energy. If these pattern demanding capacities are not present within us, no radionic energy will flow and we will feel nothing. The line will appear to be “dead”. But this does not mean that we are insensitive, or that radionic energy does not exist!

Whether you have or do not have a pattern demand which the ground line can supply has nothing to do with your own sensitivity or the existence of radionic energy. These are unique to individuals and represent nutritive differences. Many of our food preferences actually come from a deeper nutritive need. It is the same with radionic currents in the ground. The selection process represents a deep truth which has rarely been examined.

Hold the wire in either hand. Relax and notice what you are sensing. Can you feel the energy? Some sensitive persons can. This energy is not disagreeable. It is in fact vitalizing. Hence the name “Vital Energy”. Some feel this influence as a tingling in the fingers and arm. Some feel it as a heat. There are other effects, those which involve our higher states of awareness, but these visceral sensations will now suffice in discussion. With certain persons, these sensations will penetrate the thorax or abdomen quite strongly. If you are feeling or sensing the energetic flow, you are observing the action of a personal “selection process”. Your body is selectively absorbing a certain radionic current from the supply. This is why YOU feel its presence.

But the sensations differ among experimenters. You may not feel a thing, and this is certainly not your “fault” or “inability”. It is simply indicative of the fact that YOUR body is not selecting any of the radionic currents from the ground supply at that moment. It is because your body has not selected a radionic current from the supply that you feel nothing. These demands are autonomic, having nothing to do with will power, concentration, talent, or self worth. They simply indicate the differences in our personal organization. Do not hastily conclude that the energy does not exist, or that the line is incapable of delivering energies for our experiments with plants. Worse, you should not conclude that the energy requires your mind, or that it is a self-produced effect. These are some of the fatal flaws which orthodox science have historically made.

Wide differences always exist among wide varieties of people who test for radionic currents. The reason for these wide variations has to do with personal selectivity. The specific currents which our bodies demand and receive do not always coincide with those experienced by others. Hence the differences in “tingling”, “heat”, etc. sensations. Each effect is actually caused by a different vitalizing current, the direct result of autonomic personal pattern demands.

The fact that there are such selective differences among people represents yet another phenomenon which should provoke our curiosity. Why do some people not select specific sensible currents from the ground supply? Why do others select sensible currents? What do these manifestations teach us about our different body needs? All of this has to do with our individual differences. This fact leads us to add phenomena, not eliminate them, when compiling data in Qualitative Science.

EXPERIMENT 2

In the first experiment, you have already learned a fact which has troubled orthodox science for over two centuries. The fact that only certain persons were able to detect the vital currents caused the academicians to invalidate the existence of vital energy. The addition of a variable capacitor to the ground wire brings an aspect of tuning into our experiment not present in the first experiment. The variable capacitor stimulates the appearance of currents which may not have moved through direct body contact alone. We may think of the variable capacitor as a pattern demand which exceeds those within our own bodies. The variable capacitor thus reaches into the ground supply and stimulates the upwelling of currents which respond to its pattern demands. These new currents were not present when you simply held the wire in your hand.

The parts list does not require any specific variable capacitor, simply because any medium to large volume multivane rotor will suffice. These are inexpensive, and can be readily obtained through several companies (Antique Electronics 1-602-820-5411 or Fair Radio 1-419-223-2196). Buy several different sizes if you can. These will each produce their specific pattern drawing results, a phenomenon which itself requires deep study. With the use of the variable capacitor we are effectively increasing the supply of special pattern currents. This increases the possibility that you may now feel them, had you not previously.

Locate the terminal which connects with the STATOR plates of your variable capacitor. This is always an insulated terminal on the side of the frame. Connect the ground wire to this insulated terminal. Ground energy enters the stator and floods the capacitor gaps. We want to introduce new pattern capacity to this incoming flow. Turning the rotor achieves this condition. The resulting currents must be withdrawn from the capacitor. Connect a thin wire lead 6 feet in length directly to the frame of the capacitor. It is important to use a thin wire here, since we will disconnect this wire during certain experiments, and we do not wish to move the plants at all. Thick wire leads prove too unmangeable for delicate movements.

The variable capacitor and its long thin lead wire is the tunable energy source for your experiments. Flowing across and through the vane spaces in their own distributed patterns, each current will manifest its maximum flow at a specific rotor position. When you turn the rotor, you are now selecting specific radionic currents, some of which you may feel with a special vitalizing force. Open the rotor completely. Hold the wire in your right hand. Now slowly turn the rotor until you feel the current. Note those positions on the rotor where you have sensed the energizing current. You may wish to use a protractor in order to write the degree of turn at which you felt the effect. This process is like the application of Radionic Energy in therapy, a topic of greatest interest and need today.

The conventional attitude, including those who hold to the “psychotronics” theory, is that the reception of these energizing currents is a completely subjective phenomena. Through the use of your plant sensors, you are about to discover that Radionic Currents are objective and real. In their autonomic demand for radionic currents, plants are no different than ourselves. The demand for these currents is the demand for life-giving energy, a vitalizing flow which revivifies the entire physiology through contact. Note the very form and symmetry of the autonomic nervous system. Does it not resemble the complex weave of vines or roots? In our autonomic demands we are very vegetative in process.

More fundamentally, this demonstration upsets several conventional theoretical foundations. Having connected the plants through a variable capacitor, we have greatly complicated the “electrical” view of vital energies for obvious reasons. How does this energy flow through the space gaps between the vanes? Those who reduce these influences to electrostatic fields or high frequency currents are soon baffled by the experimental conditions imposed on this simple system. Placing resistors and blocking diodes in line with ground demonstrably breaks any radio energy which may find itself into the line. Nevertheless, the radionic energies continue flowing.

EXPERIMENT 3

Leave the rotor completely opened now. You are now ready for the second phase of our experiments. We will now connect your plants with the ground source. Draw the thin six foot lead wire from your tuning capacitor, keeping the capacitor far from the plants which you will examine. It is IMPERATIVE that the plants be kept at a good distance from the tuning capacitor. Certain effects we will want to elicit require that this separation distance be maintained. Place one of your plants on one side of the ringstand. Select a leaf. Place the electrodes on opposite sides of the leaf and slip this arrangement into the C-clamp jaws. Carefully close the clamp around the electrodes. Gently adjust the pressure while tightening the clamp. Be careful NOT TO PIERCE THE LEAF TISSUE!

Turn on the Biosensor and adjust the sensitivity knob. Slowly turn the dial until a steady tone is obtained. You will note that the responses are erratic, either pitching down or up. You want to balance this tone until it remains constant. Do you hear the “plant songs”? Unattended, this plant is crying out to the environment. In natural settings, these sounds cannot be heard, as they are vitalistic signals.

Remember, these audio signals are not electrical in their primary state. It is the interaction of the Biosensor current with this vital plant energy which produces the undulations. Listen and observe the wandering of the plant song until you have grown accustomed to the sound.

Now take the wire lead from your variable capacitor, the very same lead which you grasped in our second experiment. Drive the free end of your lead wire directly INTO THE ROOT SYSTEM of your plant. You have before you a most remarkable “triode”, the plant acting as an exchange medium between vitalistic energies and the audio signalling device. In this, we have actually devised an objective instrument for the detection of otherwise subjective energies. Begin with the capacitor in the “opened” position. Reestablish your audio baseline by adjusting the sensitivity on your Biosensor. Let the plant become accustomed to the new condition. If you have two plants connected at the same time to different Biosensors, you can compare the audio differences produced by an unattached plant and this new attached state.

The plant may actually begin its wild fluctuations with the first placement of the wire. This means that the opened capacitor position has successfully drawn in a pattern which the plant has demanded. We can begin our search now. Very gradually close the vanes. Gradual movement is the key in this experiment, since plants are not “on-off switches”. Being living systems, they require time to respond. Plant responses always reveal a latency period just before and after their audio response. In turning the dial slowly you will hear several pitch “stutters”. Each represents a radionic current which the capacitor has entuned. Listen for these obvious audio changes. Whenever you hear an audio “stutter”, you have “located” a current. These experiments objectively prove the reality of radionic instrumentation and points at which specific radionic currents seem clustered.

In their highly developed and behavioral responses to radionic currents, plants evidence a complexity which requires developed neurological structures, yet we cannot detect a real structure of such complexity. Dr. Bose believed he had indeed found these structures in various plants. The plant will demonstrate a demand capacity at one, two, or even three points. Of these few settings, one will always exceed the others in reactivity. This will then be the major radionic current required and demanded by the plant. This one setting brings to the plant its primary nutritive need. Flanking this major setting, or “fundamental”, there will be a spectrum of weak reactions, or “harmonics”. There are always several minor reactive points. Note each of these, writing them down for reference. Test each plant and mark the radionic positions which each requires.

The plant may not absorb every one of these currents from the capacitor, merely stuttering for a fraction of a second when the current strikes into the plant tissue. Nevertheless, wait and listen for a few seconds at each “stutter point”. These may gradually develop into a prolonged audio fluctuation. All of the stutter points which produce these prolonged fluctuations should be marked on a reference sheet. Try lots of different plants over the next few weeks. See if you can collate the varieties and their radionic clustres. Do these current points drift? Do they change radically? How do these alterations correspond with plant vitality? Do the appearance of flowers modify the radionic settings?

EXPERIMENT 4

The simple tuning system which we have been using permits the manifestation of other fascinating characteristics. Radionic ground currents will flow in either of two directions in a ground rod. Certain tuned currents come out of the capacitor, as demanded by the plant. These produce rising audio pitches. Certain other currents however are drawn from the room into the capacitor and down into the ground. In these strange instances, it is the ground which has demanded a specific pattern current! These downwelling currents produce decreasing audio pitches. Through these phenomena we glimpse the mysterious subterranean world and its constant trafficking of messages, an unsuspected world of communications and languages unknown to humankind.

Therefore, we find points from which currents emerge and points into which patterns will flow. Because of this difference in current direction, there will be different kinds of audio fluctuations with which you will soon become familiar. Audio responses differ from point to point on the variable capacitor, marking emergent currents which the plant rejects or demands.

When you now locate points on the dial which produce decreasing audio pitches, you know that the plant is sending its pattern currents back into the ground. These “relaxation points”, where the radionic currents are moving from plant to ground, reveal that currents are actually being drawn from space through the plant INTO the ground! Plants provide pathways for those wondrous currents which flow down from space and enter the ground. Other currents flow out of the ground. In this we also glimpse an unsuspected energetic topography, that which formed the very core of Geomancy. The radionics pioneer, T. G. Hieronymus, appreciated this fact, having designed special “cosmic pipes” for the powerful entunement of radionic currents from space. These were found to greatly increase the fertility of fields, furthering that new horticultural science earlier produced by Dr. White.

Having slowly swept through the dial, you now should have several current points and their characteristics. Marking the major and minor currents, as well as noting the current directions, will give you the radionic profile of the plant which you have just examined. List all of these and preserve the data with dates and times. These will prove to be of inestimable importance in later experimental determinations.

EXPERIMENT 5

Tuned currents which the plant absolutely demands will result in an audio “thrill response”. These are noted by both steady “warbling songs” and sudden audio pitch INCREASES. In certain cases, this pitch increase will quickly reach inaudible levels. When this occurs, you have found a major current demanded by the plant. Experimental familiarity will now allow you to expand your knowledge of these things. Obtain a great number of plants, with the goal of individually listing and collating their various radionic settings.

It was for this reason that I suggested that you obtain ordinary wildflowers. They are plentiful and free! Wildflowers are very hearty and stand up under the shock induced by Biosensors. Some experimenters prefer to purchase plants for their demonstrations. The essential thing is that you obtain a sizable collection of plants. Number each one with a felt-tip marker and keep track of their progress. Keep good notes. Your notebook represents an important document in the re-emerging Qualitative Science.

EXPERIMENT 6

That plants will actively demand certain radionic currents may be shown by locating a major current point, and then carefully disconnecting the wire which leads from the capacitor to the plant. Disconnect it FROM THE CAPACITOR FRAME without moving the plant at all. The plant will at once produce a continual “wailing” song, which is really a distress signal. In this, you are observing an appetite demand which will not cease until you have reconnected the plant to its source. Reattaching the capacitor to the plant restores its warbling response once again.

Test other current points in this manner. If your tuner is positioned to draw in a major current, then the plant will respond violently when the wire is withdrawn. Make sure you do not move the plant while disconnecting. Movements will shake the wired leaf and will provoke unwarranted audio fluctuations. The removed connection will provoke either an upward “shriek” or a downward “sigh”. In one case, a plant shrieked in such a loud and dramatic manner that I was compelled to reconnect it! When this was done, the plant calmed down and began to “sing”.

EXPERIMENT 7

It is important to recognize that radionic currents are conducted only at certain rotor positions. This FIXED REFERENCE is enormous in its implications. Having slowly moved the vanes in a continuous sweep, you have found fixed points. That these few fixed points hold their place for each test plant has devastating impact on those who claim the “subjective” or “mental” view of Radionic Science. If these tuning systems were truly “psychotronic” in nature, then the rotor settings would not retain their fixed position regardless of time.

It is also quite impossible to recall these settings when testing a great number of plants, so that the reappearance of fixed settings becomes an obvious indication of their objective reality. The objective existence of both radionic currents and the validity of material tuning systems is thus proven. Test these rotor positions several hours or days later. It matters not. You will find that they “hold” in time irregardless of your subjective participation. These fixed points at which radionic currents are passed by the variable capacitor to the plant, prove their OBJECTIVE EXISTENCE.

EXPERIMENT 8

If you have performed the outlined experiments, you have already found that the same currents are not shared by all plants. Two plants will respond to two very different capacitor settings. This central fact allows that both currents and plants may be categorized. But now we can compare the radionic demands of 2 or more plants simultaneously, a most fascinating study.

First open the rotor on your variable capacitor completely. Always begin your examinations from this position. The use of multiple Biosensors permits simultaneous examination of plant songs. Start with 2 plants. Cut a second 6 foot length of thin wire, stripping and attaching its free end to the capacitor frame. Two wire leads should now be attached together at their source. Strip the free end of this second lead wire and drive it into the root system of your second plant. Separate each plant now. They should be perhaps a foot or more apart. Bring this second plant to the opposite side of the ringstand and carefully repeat the leaf clamp procedure.

Each plant should have a selected leaf wired to its own Biosensor. The simultaneous comparison of radionic differences between each of these plants can now be heard. Turn the Biosensors on and carefully adjust the gain until audio baselines have been established for each plant. Neither rising nor descending, audio baseline pitch may gently drift or simply level off. In a short time, the plant song makes itself heard. Once done, stand back and listen! The entire spectacle is a mystifying wonder, as supposed inanimate plants begin singing and filling the air in a strange otherworldly duet. Each plant is now connected by the roots to the tuning capacitor and will reveal energies which conventional science does not acknowledge.

Stimulated by the vitalizing energies, our own previous personal experience of these energies gives us a fair understanding of what the plants are experiencing. Unable themselves to elucidate on what they are experiencing, we remain limited to the observation of audio pitch changes made as a by-product of their experiential process. A variety of test plants provides the very best demonstration that a spectrum of radionic currents coexist in the ground. It is remarkable that these currents, mutually coexisting, do not interfere with one another. Nevertheless, these currents enter into the vanes of the variable capacitor and discharge across their gaps when appropriate pattern capacities exist at the receiving end. First become familiar with the general audio pattern which both plants are combining to produce. Once familiar with this background sound, you will immediately notice any slight deviations — the hallmark of an outside influence.

Each plant will now demand its own radionic currents from the same variable capacitor. Here is where the significant differences will be heard. Placed a foot apart on either side of this ringstand arrangement, each plant is separately connected with the tuning capacitor. Plant 1 will begin singing its characteristic “song” only at specified points. The same will be found of Plant 2. This experiment is perhaps the best indication that variable capacitors draw up different radionic currents from the ground, and that each plant demands its own currents.

Now very slowly turn the dial from its opened position. Find a point where one of the plant songs suddenly becomes noticeably modified. You will hear this against the familiar background as a sudden and obvious pitch rise, descent, or erratic fluctuation. As you turn the dial ever so slowly, you will notice that one plant will “turn on” while the other plant “turns off”. Notice the selectivity with which each plant differentiates itself! If you had already collated the free radionic settings of each plant, you can compare and hear whether these settings have been modified by the simple placement of the two on a single tunable supply.

SUMMARY

The rich suite of responses with which plants make their utterances is the very basis of many new efforts in Qualitative Science. Validating the controversial aspects of Qualitative Science has now become a priority interest — that priority focussing on Radionics. There may be many whose long and strident belief concerning Radionics has been brought to an abrupt end. Those who are confident that Radionic Currents do not exist, or more specifically, that these currents are products of the mind alone, are shown to be in error.

The “psychotronics” camp has too long attempted the elimination of external energetic controllers — the biodynamic currents. That which the psychotronics view believes are unnecessary props and artifacts, now become the precious components of a New Technology.

In connecting plants directly to the ground by means of wires, we discover the objective reality of radionic currents. We have proven that these currents are non-electrical, differ among plants, serve as a nutritive need of plants, remain fixed in time, and enhance new responses which cannot be resolved by conventional analysis.

Plants are not autonomous entities. Certainly, botanists do not accept the fact that plants have developed nervous systems. Perhaps they should include the phrase “detectable nervous system”. Perhaps certain living things do not require physiological nervous systems when their sensing body is incorporeal.

* Editor’s note: Unfortunately, Radio Shack has discontinued production of the Micronta Biosensor unit. A very good $150 unit developed by Buryl Payne may be obtained from PsychoPhysics Labs, 4264 Topsail Ct., Soquel, CA 95073 – Ph. (408) 462-1588.

For those who would like to build it themselves, a more sophisticated instrument designed specifically for use with plants is detailed in the article, “Detecting Biodynamic Signals”.

Article by Gerry Vassilatos — from Journal of Borderland Research (Vol. 54, No. 1, 1st Quarter 1998)

Aura studies provide the avid experimenter with many hours of edifying fascinations. The experiences gained in aura experiments always compels the reformation of scientific knowledge. Addressing the very foundations of existence, these experiments may serve as stimulants toward the redirection of personal philosophies. For those who hold a primarily mechanistic view of the world, aura studies will open a deeper and more qualitative perspective. Rediscovering the aura, and the behavior of the same in experimental inspections, holds immeasurable importance. One confronts “being and essence” on a far deeper level.

A few experimenters may have difficulty imagining it possible to actually measure or reveal the aura in its dynamic action. I believe the following series of experiments will prove otherwise, leading the Borderland Experimenter into new frontiers of consciousness.

AURA MOTOR EFFECTS

A remarkable series of discoveries proved it possible to show both the presence and polarity differences of the human aura through mechanical means. Motor effects show that a distant energy can cause a motional influence in an appropriate receiver. Aura motors suggest that usable motive power can be gotten from an application of biological energy, and this has been our ultimate hope. Mechanical aura motors began appearing all over Europe from the middle to late Nineteenth Century. These devices took the form of delicate vanes and spinning wheels. In their best embodiments, these were usually poised on the frictionless jewelled bearings of the watch making trade. These experimental designs opened the discovery of many wonderful auric phenomena, not the least of which was the realization that auric fluctuations existed throughout whole regions of land.

The inventors of these aura motors may provide a familiar but elusive list to our readers. The names Thore, Boirac, Baraduc, Cazzamali, Joire, Tromelin, and Zollner are a small sample of inventors whose input in this fascinating study are noteworthy. But, we can attempt some of these experimental designs ourselves, and at such an insignificant cost that it becomes ridiculous for us not to begin right away. What we will see in the following installment is that the aura is a tangible presence; one capable of moving light objects around. In this series of experiments we will prove that psychokinetic phenomena are not only real, but that they are actually quite commonplace throughout our environment.

MATERIALS

  • Cold water faucet
  • Shears
  • Aluminum foil
  • Sewing needle
  • Small drinking glass
  • 30 feet of thin wire
  • Wire strippers
  • Clear tape
  • Small house plant
  • Small iron rod
  • Carbon rod
  • Thick copper wire
  • An assortment of different materials (zinc, tin, nickel, silverware, gold, quartz, amethyst, minerals, etc.)

PREPARATIONS (AND BUILDING INSTRUCTIONS)

The first aura motor which we will construct is a design taken directly from the video “Aura Motors”. This is the simplest of all aura motors, and is extremely inexpensive in design. It consists of a simple aluminum vane which is carefully balanced on a sharp needle point. The design requires almost no experimental talent at all. It can be made in less than 5 minutes.

The first few experiments here will be a straightforward duplication of the primitive experiments on the “Aura Motors” video. A number of startling results were demonstrated in the video which have not been widely publicized. The foil vane motor provides us with a method for showing auric power at great indoor distances, and is so basic that dissenting arguments are quickly dispelled. You professionals who wish to keep your positions should try these experiments behind “closed doors”!

Our very first preparatory step is to establish a controlled situation. To perform these tests we must neutralize any electrostatic charges which will surely develop through frictive handling and through physical movement across a floor. Find a cold water faucet. The kitchen sink will do, since it also provides a smooth table surface on which to place the motor. Measure out two pieces of thin wire, each 15 feet in length. Be careful not to tangle these! Strip the insulation from each end. Take one wire and wrap one of its ends around the needle. Take the other end of this wire and tape it securely to the cold water faucet.

For an additional precaution, we will use the second 15 foot wire length as a “hand unit”, insuring that we ourselves are grounded as well. So take one end of this second wire length and tape it also to the cold water faucet. The other end will be held in your hand at all times when performing experiments with the vane. For now, just leave it on the floor. Our precautionary measure is complete. These twin wire links to a common ground effectively neutralizes any electrostatic charges which will be developed between ourselves and the vane.

No one can now accuse our results as “flawed, invalid, or self-deceived”, the common song of my detractors. With the “electrostatic effects” being removed, we will feel confident that our observations are relatively pure. The only other factor which may prove disheartening to you will be the possibility that room draughts and temperature differentials will produce motion in the milligram aluminum vane.

I have performed these tests with the vane under a thin-walled glass bell jar. The auric influence effects are considerably deadened by the non-conductive enclosure, but nonetheless persist. One must understand that glass enclosures must be tested for auric conductivity, and that certain kinds of colored (metal doped) glass do yield powerful effects. The typical lime glass of art store bell jars is a decidedly inferior grade, otherwise I would have suggested we perform all the experiments under glass. Despite this “weak point”, I will assure you that effects observed here will rule out the accusers who use draughts and temperature differentials. You will see that these effects cannot work instantaneously across a space of 30 feet!

Now we will construct the vane motor itself. Take a sewing needle and tape it (point up) to the side of a drinking glass. Please be careful with this point, since it poses a hazard! I have too often been “spiked” by the design. Now cut a 6 inch long piece of aluminum foil with your shears. It need not be more than 3 inches in width. Cut this strip into a long diamond shape, about 1 inch across at the center. Fold this long diamond shape on its long axis. I usually find a sharp formica table and crease the foil sharply on its edge. Then I spread out the “flaps” somewhat, and balance it on the needle point. Once you have done all this, make sure the room is relatively free of draughts. Now step back and be amazed!

EXPERIMENTS

EXPERIMENT 1

Hold the personal grounding wire in your left hand. Now hold your breath! I mean, hold your breath literally. We do not want any draughts to influence the vane. Just stand near the vane. Did the vane turn toward you? The vane will stay in that position, pointing directly at you. Why this attraction? The vane is lining up with a flow-line which leads directly into your solar plexus, the main auric entry point of the whole body. Turn slightly to the left or right of the vane. Watch the vane follow you with uncanny speed. Wait each time before turning slightly. Wait for the vane to “settle down”. In other words, allow any stray air currents caused by your physical motion to cease. Some imagine all of these movements to be the result of air currents. This is why we will perform this test (and all of our tests) at greater distances from the vane. The sudden motions which one sees when simply pointing a finger at the vane will prove that auric force is real. Move back and perform the same tests at greater and greater distances, until you too are completely convinced that air currents cannot be the motive cause.

EXPERIMENT 2

Now we will test the auric flow which projects from the hands. Bring the pointing finger of one hand near the vane. It does not matter which hand you use, so you may decide this variable. Do you see any vane motion? You will observe either an attraction or a repulsion. This depends on the auric polarization of the vane. Play with these attractions and repulsions a good long while; the more you gain experience with the auric flow, the more you will be able to discern differences between it and electrostatic action.

Notice the gap between your finger and the vane. Do you see any discernible “glow”? I have persistently watched this space, and have always noted that a whitish auric glow fills the gap before the motion occurs. This effect works with every electrostatic precaution. If the action is electrostatic, there cannot be any such arbitrary repulsion and attraction on opposed sides of the vane.

In fact, aluminum vanes cannot become electrostatically polarized. They do not and cannot act as dielectrics, and will simply distribute their charge across the whole of their metal volume whenever accidentally influenced. Being some 6 inches long (25 centimeters), the charge is distributed in 0.8 nanoseconds! In the act of moving under auric influence, we often observe a constant undulation of the vane from repulsion to attraction. Some may see in this undulating phenomenon some ionic “charge-discharge” action, a hypothesis which does not hold up in grounded situations. Thankfully, our preparation has eliminated all of these possibilities. The effect is clearly anomalous, and is the result of a distinct energy proceeding from your tight hand.

EXPERIMENT 3

Dr. Walter Kilner observed the action of electrostatic charge on the aura. Charged persons actually became weak and sluggish. Their auric emanation appeared to shrink. Until they were discharged, these persons felt ill. When discharge occurred, Kilner observed that the aura became extremely stressed and expanded. Constriction of the aura in the prophase, expansion in the anaphase. This effect was unfortunately employed in a great many medical applications of the day. The dangerous application of high voltage electrostatic energy was believed to effect a beneficial auric state. This falsity is yet being used by a great many peddlers of experimental medical devices.

I have purposely applied electrostatic charges to my body without holding the personal grounding wire. In these conditions, I have felt the sudden loss of energy. The lassitude appears immediately in the vane. You can easily see that electrostatic charges will inhibit the otherwise lively vane movements. Try this experiment and see it for yourself. Let go of the personal grounding wire. Now, scuffle your feet against the floor, or rub your hands briskly across a counter top. Place your hand near the vane. Do you see that these charges cause the vane to suddenly become sluggish and lethargic? In some extreme cases, you will see that the application of electrostatic charge will actually “deaden” the vane for a good long while.

Grab the grounding wire, and let the electrostatic charges gradually leak into the earth. The body is not a perfect conductor. The charges must drift over and across your skin to ground. You should observe the passage of a few seconds while this discharge occurs. When the process is complete, you will see an amazing recovery! Watch the vane suddenly spring back to life, an amazing verification of the Reich Rule concerning vital and antagonistic (irritating) forces. As long as your aura was loaded with charge, its vitality was masked.

EXPERIMENT 4

Vane motors will show you the flow which comes from each of your hands. But between the hands, there is a directed auric flow. This flow differs with the sexes. For men, the flow usually comes out of the right hand and into the left. It is reversed for women, a beautiful and sublime fact concerning our very different physiologies. This experiment will show you that the aura flows in specific directions across the body.

You may want to wrap the stripped end of your personal ground wire around a finger. This frees up your hand movements. Hold your breath again, and place your opened hands on opposite sides of the vane. Let the palms of each hand face inward, toward the vane. Did you see that sudden motion? The effect is strongest with the hands on opposite sides of the vane. Now the vane acts like a real aura motor. Watch the vane following every movement of the two hands! The vane lines up with the auric flow between your hands.

Not convinced? Is this motion due to draughts? Distance will always serve as our crude means for separating the action of draughts from those of the aura. Move your two hands apart to a greater distance, even to full arms length. Keep your palms facing the vane at all times. The vane continues to pursue!

What is happening here? The action cannot be electrostatic. You and the vane are connected to a common ground. So what is occurring? Why the mystifying movements? The explanation is found in the aura. The auric field flows out of your body. It also has a basic symmetry which has been well corroborated by legendary qualitative researchers. We know that the auric field flows from one hand to the other. The vane is caught in this flow, and seeks to conform its position with the flow-lines. It therefore will change from a transverse position in order to assume a polarization which points from hand to hand. The vane will point into any single hand at right angles to the opened palm.

EXPERIMENT 5

Water seems to be a most important substance for the amplification of these effects. You have not been directed to use a water glass for the principle support of the vane. You have seen the strength of results obtained without water in the glass. Now try filling the glass with cold water. Do not wet the vane! It becomes useless after becoming soaked. Take the vane off its needlepoint and fill the glass halfway up to the brim. Now replace the vane again, balancing it ever so carefully.

Repeat the experiments now and determine whether or not water has amplified the response of the vane to your presence. I have found this so in every repetition of the experiments. You can leave the water in the glass for every subsequent experiment in this series.

Remember to always hold the personal ground wire in your hand throughout the trials.

EXPERIMENT 6

Once again, hold the personal grounding wire in your left hand. Carefully pull the wire along as you move around. From a 1 yard distance, point your finger at the vane and wait. If nothing happens, take the vane off its needle point and slowly refold it with your hands. In other words “crease” the vane slowly, so that you make a slow sweep of the aluminum vane. The effect of this manipulation is to “repolarize” the vane to your body aura. Excessive handling of the vane better serves to polarize this vane to you alone. It will then bear your “signature”, or auric pattern.

Rebalance the vane again on the needle and step back. Point your finger at the vane, and watch it slowly move around. It will conform to the auric flow-line from your finger. Step to the far wall of your kitchen, as far as your available room will permit. Now move back and position the vane at right angles to yourself. Step back slowly to the furthest distance and point at the vane. Wait. It should “seek you out”.

You have determined the range of your aura. Test this range from day to day. I find that it drops down to surprising minimums whenever the weather is poor. It drops to surprising low values when the moon is full, giving very “dull” response. Auric range diminishes whenever you are feeling weak or ill, a good indicator of personal vitality. No, this is not the result of electrostatic action. If you have followed my instructions exactly, both you and the vane are grounded to a common pole. As a result, there can be no net induced charge and no net electrostatic accelerations. Draughts and temperature differentials will not produce these quick vane movements, especially at the distances to which you may observe them. It becomes clear that these movements are not the results of anything less than an auric flow from your body.

The Borderland Experimenter: Evoking Imageshttp://journal.borderlandsciences.org/1997/layne-evoking-images/ http://journal.borderlandsciences.org/1997/layne-evoking-images/#comments Tue, 01 Apr 1997 07:00:00 +0000 http://journal.borderlandsciences.org/?p=47 ]]>

Article by Meade Layne, originally printed in the Journal for the American Society for Psychical Research (Vol. XXX, No. 9, September 1936); reprinted in the Journal of Borderland Research (Vol. 53, No. 2, Second Quarter 1997)

The purpose of the present paper is to set down, in as impersonal a manner as possible, certain facts connected with what is known as “meditation without argumentation” – or, more popularly, as “entering the silence.” Data of this sort are not lacking, but it is nearly always vitiated by some bias of the observer. The experimenter usually has some religious or mystical point of view, and interprets his experiences in accordance with it. There is a real lack of “cold-blooded” reporting of such experiments, while on the other hand the data involved possess a genuine psychological interest.

There are various methods, familiar to most readers, for securing the required mental control. The one most practicable in my own case consisted merely in first concentrating the attention on a monotonous and repetitive sound, such as the ticking of a watch. After five or ten minutes of this, the sound was muffled and an attempt made to hold the mind entirely free from images and thought sequences. In this condition, the images of the unconscious appear freely. The phenomenon is of course familiar to most of us, especially at the borders of sleep. But it should be emphasized that for purposes of observation the mind must be not only “blank” to ordinary thinking, but also especially alert and watchful. The slightest drowsiness defeats the purpose entirely.

Interest in images arising under such conditions inheres (1) in the symbolism, and its apparent future as well as back-reference; (2) In the comparison of the meditation images with dreams, which they resemble in some respects, but differ from greatly in other ways; (3) In the mixed origin of the images, and the impossibility of finding any association or pattern-relation for many of them; (4) In the illusion of objectivity, or rather the almost total disappearance of any sense of distinction between subjective and objective forms; (5) In color effects, perspective and other details; (6) In the sense of what may be called mental structure, as of overlying zones of consciousness perceptible at the same moment. There are also (7) various phenomena such as the appearance of white vapors, sounds and lights, presumably of a “subjective” order. In this connection the fact should be emphasized (since it is too seldom noted explicitly) that the observation of unconscious or subconscious images is itself a kind of clairvoyance, and is the first step in the development of that power. Since clairvoyance, along with telepathy and other forms of extra-sensory perception, is now by way of being definitely recognized as a fundamental datum of science, the term can presumably be used without awakening prejudice.

It should also be stated frankly that many experiences, in experiments of this sort, are related to the basic concepts of spiritism – that is, are susceptible of interpretation from that point of view. The present purpose, however, is almost wholly descriptive, without reference either to spiritistic ideas or special psychological theories. It is also necessary to refer at times to emotional effects, since these are mental facts as much as a flow of color or a configuration of images. All observations here noted were made in complete darkness, usually with the eyes open; their prerequisite is wakefulness and alertness, and there is no reason to believe that any of them are, or border upon, sleep-dreams. The images described are examples taken at random from an immense number, and are for the most part commonplace enough; the writer is not unaware of the conventional interpretations, Freudian and otherwise, which the reader may apply to them, but as a rule these seem to him unsatisfactory.

Examples, passim, of images observed with eyes open, complete darkness, mind as nearly “blank” as possible. In some instances the meaning of the images comes into consciousness along with them, without reflective effort; if it does not, the meaning is usually indiscoverable. The term “No reference” means that the image has no discoverable relation to anything in present consciousness or memory of the experimenter:

  1. A cottage surrounded by a picket fence; a road and side-path running past this fence. An old man in ragged clothing with a pack on his back walking down this path. House and fence are white. Momentary, but clear. No reference. (With regard to color, there is often a curious sense of merely knowing that an object has a certain color, without seeming to see the color itself. But in later experiments color is often seen in a sense analogous to ordinary perception. No action motion: the man is as if photographed in act of walking.)
  2. An old stone-paved walk between brown stone walls, suggesting a scene in Mexico or Spain. Old houses and ruins on the left, on a hill-slope. No reference.
  3. A strait of the sea. between rocky shores, winding toward the east; open sea beyond. I seem to be on a ship entering this strait. On the coast is an old stone city, clearly visible but in a blue-black light (if the expression is intelligible – there is no other way to describe it) and very beautiful. No reference.
  4. A rake lying across a path, from which leaves and sticks have been partially raked away; a large boulder in the background. Probable reference to personal difficulties partly cleared up – the means to solve them is at hand but temporarily neglected.
  5. A bird falls flat on a path and turns over on its back (idea that bird is dying); then a ghostly bird, its duplicate, emerges quickly from the dead bird and flies away. Reference to personal problems comes with the image. No color. Sense of motion.
  6. An empty schoolroom; all seats unoccupied except one. In this seat is a large Newfoundland dog, which turns in head and looks at me with an air of canine friendliness. Probable reference to concern over a young man entering college.
  7. A clear vision of the experimenter himself as standing erect and holding out a drinking glass. A hand and arm appear, and the hand pours a liquid into the glass; in the bottom of this draught are black and unpleasant looking dregs. Probable reference to concern over outcome of a present difficulty.
  8. A wooded valley with stream flowing through it; overhead, an airplane falling out of control; a flight of planes toward the west, high up. No reference.

The elements of all such images are of course drawn from experience; that is, the experimenter has seen ships and rakes and ruined houses and dogs. Now and then there are images which clearly are in their entirety no more than latent memories, promptly identified with some past scene or event. But most of the combinations are new. There is no discoverable relationship to account for the sequence of the images – either in the images, or (in the case of obvious symbols) of the things symbolized. These images flash up into consciousness without warning and without apparent relation to that which has preceded them. Out of four images, A, B, C, D, in time sequence, A may be an obvious symbol with either past or future reference, B a visualization of a well-remembered event, C an unknown scene without discoverable meaning, D again symbolic. It is impossible of course to deny flatly that symbolism exists in all the images, even in memory scenes, or that there is some obscure association at work; one can only insist that such relations are not accessible by introspection. The facts deserve more analysis, but at present I wish to mention several examples of scenes of remarkable beauty, The scene numbered 3 above is an instance of this sort others are:

  1. While sitting in complete darkness I suddenly have the idea, which comes partly as a visual glimpse and partly as an intuitive sense, that some one pulls aside a heavy curtain hanging before me and a little to my left (there is no curtain in the room, however). Looking up quickly, I see very clearly a squarish patch of night sky thickly strewn with stars. This appearance lasts for three or four seconds, and the brilliant display of stars gives a feeling of intense pleasure. The “illusion of objectivity” (if we must call it that) is perfect; there is no feeling of observing a mental image only.
  2. The image of an immense scroll, partly unrolled; the open portion seems to be about two feet in breadth by some four or five in length. This scroll is covered with writing in luminous script of great beauty. In front of it, between my eyes and the scroll, floats a whitish and semi-luminous mist, and this prevents my reading the script, or even identifying the language. Meanwhile an indistinct voice makes a comment, of which I seem to grasp the general sense, without hearing a single word clearly. The remarkable beauty of the scroll and of the luminous vapors makes the vision a memorable one.
  3. An immense castle which I seem to view from a distance of perhaps a half mile. This castle is on an eminence, and towers upward to great height, so that its turrets touch the cloud-strata far overhead. It is partially illuminated, and fires sparkle on the summits of its towers. The effect of this is awe and wonder; the mind seems to climb upward with the towers and to widen and expand in consciousness. The conscious association is with illuminated tower-like buildings I have seen, but these have been aggrandized into an appearance of remarkable beauty. These, and similar experiences such as I shall suggest later, convey so extraordinary a pleasure that they are in themselves sufficient inducement for experiments of this type.

Concentration on a remote and luminous image – in place of trying for “blankness” of mind – as on the image of a star, produces a curious effect. The star will often shine out through the darkness of the closed room, quite as distinctly and brilliantly as under normal observation; at the same time there is a weird sense of detachment from the body and of floating in space.

As a matter of procedure, the experimenter should take care to observe the subjective images as closely as possible, holding each one in turn until it vanishes of itself. By practice of this sort one can observe more and more details, and maintain the images longer in position. This is a procedure followed by spiritualists in their unfoldment classes, and it is undoubtedly effective in developing a form of clairvoyance. We must remember that experience is of different types and enters consciousness in various ways – by one particular sense, by several senses at a time, and also in an extra-sensory manner via the unconscious. In the latter case the objective world may come into consciousness as a veridical image, but this is difficult to distinguish from mere memory images, synthetic inventions of the unconscious activity, symbols, and so on. This is obviously one source of errors and confusions of all sorts in the practice of clairvoyance. And it is interesting to note that the effect of objectivity increases as one gains power to hold and study the mental images. The eyes are focused in observing them, and if they are in movement the eyes follow them exactly as in ordinary observation, so far as one’s sense of eye-movement can be trusted.

We are reminded of common phenomena of the seance room, where lights, forms, and sounds are often visible to one or two persons only: on this account investigators regard them as of no importance. But this may well arise only from the degree of individual sensitiveness. And when, as sometimes happens, two or three clairvoyants will describe a spirit form in the same way and at the same spot, the fact – if suggestion can be eliminated – points to some kind of independently existing cause; just as the testimony of one or more witnesses to the existence of a chair or table points to its independent being also, of some nature. All these problems are familiar, but it is perhaps worth-while to repeat that only by arbitrary definition of the terms is one justified in describing a clairvoyant perception in every case as “unreal,” “subjective,” and “illusory.” And images perceived “in the silence” have reality on their own level of experience, and quite possibly as existents in their own right. In the metaphysics of the East, a thought-form has temporal and spatial being and is endowed with its own life-like energy. But this takes one much too far afield.

A fact of no small interest and importance is that it becomes possible, in time, to put questions to this extra-conscious source and receive answers from it. These are sometimes highly instructive, sometimes whimsical or ironical. When I ask, in so many words, how to handle certain literary material which has been puzzling me, the reply is in the form of an image, first of a rotating disk, then of a round potter’s table with the wheel, then of a disk of clay being turned and fashioned, and of hands at work shaping it. The accompanying idea arises along with it – turn your subject around and around, and do it yourself instead of asking. Another question, as to the source of all unconscious ideas, is answered by a clear vision of a dignified and grave-faced individual shaking his head slowly. It is well to take note always of the first interpretation which comes to the mind; it is usually more plausible than those discovered by analysis. How far one can go with question and answer is an unsolved problem, and possibly of great importance. There are a halfscore of contemporary writers who urge upon us the necessity of “listening to the mind” in the solving of difficulties, and as many more forms of religious belief or of mental therapeutics which depend in one way or another on communication with the unconscious. From the psychological standpoint there is much interesting material which is quite inaccessible except through introspection of this type, but which should not be disregarded on that account. The experiments lead directly into clairvoyance, and it is only by this means that the phenomenon can be conveniently studied at first hand.

In addition to the aesthetic value of some of the images, there are further experiences of a pleasurable type, of more emotional tension; one is a little reluctant to intrude such matters, yet they are as factual as any other. There is an experience which consists at first in the consciousness of a light, seemingly remote; if the attention be held on it, it presently seems to inundate the entire consciousness. The effect of this is a sudden sense of extraordinary well-being and power and refreshment; though it lasts no more than part of a second, the experience is never forgotten. Another effect, perhaps less “mystical” in description but of subtle implications, can best be described by illustration. While sitting in the darkness I am suddenly aware – not of the appearance – but of the disappearance of a huge golden dome or bowl-shaped object which I had been contemplating with rapt interest without being aware of myself as observer. Contradictory as it seems in statement, I was nevertheless acutely aware of the object and delighted with its strange beauty; as soon however as the I-consciousness appeared – as soon as I said to myself, “What a remarkable object this is which I am looking at” – there was the usual snap-back into normal consciousness and the dome vanished. Now this self-estrangement, this seeming diminution and loss of self-consciousness, is in fact no loss at all, but rather a remarkable sense of exaltation, of expansion and strange pleasure. It seems to point toward a possible state of consciousness which is a kind of greater self in which, nevertheless, the lesser self is not truly lost, but aggrandized.

The bearing of this type of experience on various religious, philosophical arid mystical concepts is obvious; it makes intelligible, too, the groping for language and figurative expressions of those who have tried to explain such states. It may remove the matter a little from the domain of mysticism to point out that this self-estrangement, transfer and identification of observer with the object, is familiar to everyone in principle. It occurs in some degree whenever the subject is “rapt in attention”, “carried out of himself”, “lost to the world” in some all-absorbing event. If one sees, for example, an impending accident, the attention flows out to the situation, the event, and possible victim. The whole consciousness of the watcher is “there” so to speak; the body itself responds with a complex of nervous and muscular and chemical changes, and all sense of personal identity is for the moment lost. So too with complete absorption in music, a work of art of any sort, a problem, a story. This psychic identification is usually involuntary – there is no sense of diminution and loss of consciousness, but rather the contrary. Psychologically this seems identical with the socalled mystical experience. Its significance, it seems to me, has not been properly considered by psychologists.

A further phenomenon of some interest is that of the white vapors. I am not unaware of the physiological explanation of part of these appearances – nor of the fact that this explanation leaves a good deal to be desired. These whitish appearances are seen at first on the edge of the visual field (they are quite distinct from the well-known grayness of the dark); they often roll in by successive waves toward the center of the field, or seem to descend from overhead. They may come from one side only, or from both. Later, they tend to remain stationary in front of one, and take on a globe or disk shape, brightest in the center, with nebulous boundaries. They can be seen about equally well with eyes either open or closed. In the case of clairvoyants who develop their powers by spiritistic methods, these clouds often seem to develop human-like shapes, so that the phenomenon is regarded as one of etherealization.

Psychologists are usually unwilling to study such phenomena at first hand, by personal experience, on the somewhat dubious ground that they lose the necessary objectivity of judgment, and even that the practice is dangerous to mental balance. The present writer has always felt that the psychologist whose mentality was too delicately balanced for personal experiments of this type is much too highly organized for psychology or any other useful pursuit. And the methods used by spiritualists in their unfoldment classes (faking these at their best) is well worth study. There is no doubt at all (in my own mind, after many years of observation) that a large percentage of sitters develop extra-sensory perception, along with various forms of physical phenomena – and also that it is mere nonsense to suppose the results are those of hallucination and nervous disorders.

Results obtained by sitting “in the silence” of course vary widely with the individual. It is not wise to attempt such experiments unless one has reasonably good health and a fair degree of mental and nervous control. Occasionally one may be visited by sights which are far from agreeable, not only of human suffering and peril, but of existents corresponding to the “elementals” of the occultists. Very little attempt has been made to describe these latter in print, for reasons obvious to those who have seen them. For our present purpose a single sketchy account of one of the least disagreeable of the species must suffice. This singular and wholly disgusting appearance resembled a large inflated bladder, some three or four feet in length, semi-transparent, and filled with writhing worm-like intestines; it possessed short rear legs with toes ending in claws, the toes partly joined by a membrane. The head was about the size of a large apple, with short ear-like projections, and the whole image was dark red and blackish in color. This exceedingly unpleasant visitor appeared in the corner of the room (seemingly), standing erect on its hind legs; it then rose slowly and disappeared through the ceiling. With whatever incredulity it be received, such an experience is not different psychologically or logically from any other unconscious or clairvoyant imagery. It has often been suggested that appearances of this type account for some of the terrors of delirium, and especially of acute alcoholism; if so there may well be an area of existence, or of psychic experience, which is, so to speak, populated by these monstrosities, and which is penetrated by an observer under definite psychological conditions. The problem, like most in this field, remains unexplored by psychology.

The principal difficulty in all subjective observation is of course that of mental control; everything depends on it. And the final purpose of all psychic disciplines is to slow down the mental activity, while retaining the power of alert observation. The effort toward control, and the practice of “entering the silence” even if regarded as a relaxation period only, is wholly salutary if done in the proper manner. It is also the approach to a great number of introspective data of extreme importance, accessible in no other manner. The psychologists, in whose territory this material properly falls, have so defined their own subject matter as to exclude most of it, though such exclusion is arbitrary and unprofitable.

Article by Gerry Vassilatos and Michael Theroux — from JBR (Vol. 53, No. 1, 1st Quarter 1997)

THE EXPERIMENTS WHICH WILL HERE BE DESCRIBED ARE NOT IN THEMSELVES DANGEROUS. THERE IS DANGER FOR THOSE WHO DO NOT TAKE ORDINARY PRECAUTIONS WHEN USING AC POWERED RADIOS.

ANY WORK PERFORMED ON SUCH RADIOS DEMANDS DISCONNECTION FROM THE MAINS DURING ALL PREPARATORY PHASES OF THESE EXPERIMENTS. NEVER CONNECT WIRES TO ANY RADIO WHICH HAS BEEN LEFT OPERATING. HAZARDOUS SHOCK CAN RESULT. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES PERFORM THESE EXPERIMENTS DURING A STORM! GROUND ANTENNAS ARE DIRECT CONNECTIONS TO EARTH. WE SUGGEST YOU TAKE PRECAUTION BY OBTAINING AN INEXPENSIVE LIGHTNING ARRESTER FROM LOCAL RADIO MARKETS.

THE historical essay on Ground Antennas is only a preliminary bibliography, a foundation upon which to place our empirical confidence. It is through the agency of just such articles and patents that an arcane world model finds its most complete explanation. The inherent wonder of signals detected by ground-connected shortwave receivers is their ability to receive signals with greater strength and clarity than conventional aerials, and to reveal the bioactivity of subterranean propagation. Beyond their use as audio “capture systems”, such shortwave receivers display other more intriguing characteristics which lead our attentions up toward a technology of the sublime. With the shortwave receiver as a radionic tuning instrument, an interface which captures and converts geomantic dynamics into audio signals, we have made several astounding observations.

Recall that when shortwave radio receivers were employed as peculiar detectors of geomantic energy, additional unexpected phenomena began to flood the relevant literature. Close inspection reveals that both “ground radio” and “ground antennas” are the components of Radionic phenomena, and are completely dependent on Radionic principles for their astounding and otherwise anomalous performance. Explorations of the interactions between radio signals and geomantic energies require very simple equipment. Geomantic energy is biodynamic, and actively modifies and augments radio signal carriers. This presentation will focus primarily on the more qualitative aspects obtained through the use of ground-buried aerial designs, although it will certainly follow that stringent quantitative measurements will be both secured and reported.

This basic preliminary experiment with the simplest ground aerial teaches the biological growth characteristic of signals received through the ground. Indeed, the implementation of a simple ground pipe in place of an aerial, also converts the shortwave receiver into a diagnostic tool. We may, by merely sweeping the receiver dial, probe and “view” the biodynamic conditions prevalent in the ground. Despite the great variety of ground aerial designs, we observe a consistent signature of the ground densified biodynamic energies.

EXPERIMENT WITH A COPPER GROUND PIPE

(G. Vassilatos)

Please observe the precautionary notes placed at the beginning of this article! When you have, try a simple experiment for yourself. Obtain a short (2 feet) section of copper pipe from any hardware store. Make a small cut into the top of this with a hacksaw. The cut is made so that you may twist into it a secure wire lead. Although the placement of the pipe is most important for many radionic experiments, you will not be required to select the most potent spot. While there are those whose qualitative sensitivities permit such a direct location of highly “active” ground locations, there are more quantitative methods to assist in this necessary survey. If you wish to conduct your experiments outdoors, you will need appropriate portable radios and the like. In this case, you will more readily discover the phenomena which we will mention. Plants are great indicators for determining the right placement of ground antennas and earth batteries — as they are also great indicators of subsurface mineral content.

If you wish to establish the very best point, find a place where dark green vegetation thrives. Empirical explorations will serve you best. While desertified plots of earth generally reveal the absence of easily accessible ground currents, you will discover an amazing phenomenon in such a location. Wait until the ground is soft. I usually wait until after a good rainfall before driving my experimental antennas down, having selected a very verdant garden strip just below my office window. You will need an available window, if you wish to maintain the arrangement with the radio indoors. Wire will be run from your receiver to the ground antenna, so it is imperative that your window coincide with the ground point which you have selected.

Wear gloves when performing this portion of the experiment. Using a small sledge, carefully drive in a 2 foot long copper pipe. The pipe you choose can be much longer according to your local needs. I left a 4 inch section above ground for the hookup. Obtain a sufficient length of coaxial cable (RG 58 works fine) to establish a lead between the pipe and your radio receiver. If long enough, an old straight electric guitar cable will do. I clipped off both phono-plugs and used the center conductor for my experiments. Neatly trim away the outer shielding with rubber tape. First connect the center lead directly to the “aerial” terminal of your receiver. If your receiver has only an external antenna, connect the ground lead directly to this antenna. Now carefully drop this wire from your window to the ground antenna. Close the window to hold the line, and go outside to establish your connection.

OBSERVATION 1

The line will instantly be flooded with ground currents, very high potentials which will not cause “shock”, but which may over-excite your system. Take care not to handle these lines for too long a time without rubber gloves. The line from ground may appear “dead” to all appearance, but it is a source of powerful vitalistic effects which can cause fatigue and other congestive sensations. Once attached to your receiver, leave the wire alone. The ground currents may be applied to any kind of receiver. I successfully received television signals with a ground antenna, obtaining surprisingly clarified signals on most of the shorter wave channels (7 through UHF) without any other aerial. Ground antennas are very useful for those who live in mountain-bound locations, where television reception is distorted or even absent.

I first connected the lead wire from ground to a small shortwave receiver, a Hammerlund 38-S, which was acquired at an amateur radio sale. The simple ground pipe brought in a surprising wealth of very strong signals. When you first hear these signals for yourself, you must take time to realize that the original radio theory “prohibited” all such possibility. Straight connection to ground was theoretically considered an impossibility, being the “neutralization” of signals received through the aerial wave route. It was precisely because of these observations that the original theoretical model, which spoke only of “radio skywaves”, was first modified to accommodate the obvious ground wave activity. Once dogmatically fixed, radio theory required continual “a posteriori” modifications: modifications from the empirical world. Now you will begin to observe and appreciate numerous empirical effects which are yet considered “impossible”. With your small system, you will literally peer into the subterranean world, where bioactivities are in persistent dynamic exchange.

OBSERVATION 2

The first such effect has to do with the “response” characteristics of ground currents. Tune to one of your stronger stations. While listening, momentarily disconnect the ground wire. Notice the sudden drop in volume and signal integrity. How long did this volume diminution occur? Now reconnect the lead, while paying close attention to the sound quality over time. How long did the signal require in order to reach its original volume? I have repeatedly observed that the disconnection volume drop is rather instantaneous. But the reconnection volume requires a much longer time, some 40 seconds in certain cases. The slow restoration effect sometimes occurs in a discontinuous fashion, first rising slowly (20 seconds), and then very suddenly (3 seconds). The volume increase in this manner can be both unexpected and surprising, often reaching volume levels which actually exceed their original states.

You will find that every local change in proximity to the circuitry of your simple system will provoke the “restoration response”. Signals seem to lag each change which has been applied to the system. The adjustment of the ground antenna will provoke the response, a slow rise in volume occurring perhaps in 35 seconds after an adjustment has been made. As with the response of living things, the ground receiving receiver behaves as a quasi-biological entity; a poignant and astonishing glimpse of Biodynamic behavior. Bio-organisms do not behave in the manner of digital switches. But once signals have been impacted by any electrical expression, ground received signals will execute an exaggerated restoration. This exaggerated response will be observed with every local electrical disturbance. The mere activation of an appliance or lamp will evoke the rapid diminution of any signal. But the restoration phase can gradually increase in volume until it overwhelms the listener, reaching excessive volumes. This response is more than “withdrawal and restoration”. Its effects can persist long after the impact has occurred. Proper placement of the ground antenna absolutely determines this magnification effect, an observation made throughout the last Century.

Provided the ground “antenna” has been accurately placed in an “active spot”, the effect most notably occurs with any electrostatic discharge. The first response is for the signal to “shrink”, or “withdraw”. The ground signal gradually reemerges in strength, but continues expanding beyond its normal volume, “flaring” into distorted brilliance before settling down to its normal volume. This amplification effect is not to be confused with the commonly observed shortwave “fading” effect, and is the direct result of disturbances which have occurred in proximity to the system. These brilliant audio “flares” can persist for upward of ten seconds after the disturbance has passed, followed by a very gradual decrease in volume to the original signal strength. The flaring response was artificially arranged and used in a great number of post-Victorian devices.

This biodynamic response was used to magnify vital energies, and was evoked by Turn of the Century systems through the use of pulsed electrical disturbances. The highly intensified quasi-electrical potentials, subsequently obtained, were used to cure illness and light lamps. In other appropriate instruments, such resultant currents were used to fulfill a variety of other experimental functions. With the requisite proper location of the ground terminal, the effect was deliberately applied to the ground currents themselves (Tesla) and to human patients (Abrams). While the results were often spectacular to the senses, the latent effects were seldom addressed.

We concur with those select Radionists, who condemned the electrostimulation of ground and vital currents as an inferior methodology. Such methods may provide intriguing solutions to the need for electrical power, but as that is a degenerate technology in its own right, we have sought other means by which to fulfill the utilitarian needs of humanity. The electrostimulation methods provoke natural rage on an unappreciated scale, with effects not recognized by all but the most astute observers. It is a means of which we also highly disapprove. There are indeed better and more naturally acceptable means by which to evoke the growth and magnification response in ground currents. One may romance the favors of Nature without the methods which deliberately enrage her furious wrath.

OBSERVATION 3

There are other effects one notices, especially when tuning faint stations with ground antennas. It seems that tuned stations actually become stronger in the act of being heard, a bizarre effect requiring fine order readjustments. Indeed, continued reception of faint stations evidence definite auto-magnification effects. Obtained only through the use of analogue (variable capacity) tuning systems, the tuning process seemingly magnifies the strength of any faintly received signal. One may thus begin with a signal “granule”, and end with a booming volume. Such entuned signal growth only occurs with continued attentive reception, a remarkable phenomenon in which receivers literally draw and automagnify signals on demand of the listening site. This strange connective “supply-response” function does not occur without human agency however. In absence of the human “recipient”, no such amplification occurs, a curiosity which will find numerous skeptics and critics. But try the experiment for yourself.

Tune a weak station and leave the room. The signal fades away. Walk in again and quickly tune the signal. Walk away once more. The signal fades. Once more, tune the signal and walk back from the receiver. With very minor waverings, the signal strength will remain unchanged…until you walk directly before the receiver. Stay this time. Tune the signal and wait. You will literally hear the signal gradually rising in volume. The faint signal will gradually, almost perceptibly, grow in strength for you as you remain in the room. Now tune the signal carefully, rocking the dial to the left or right of center. Each readjustment raises the signal strength, until the volume is strong. Periodic minor adjustments will reveal a remarkable volume magnification, one which can reach enormous and fixed volume levels. This observation takes time and patience. With such patience, one can thus literally obtain a “signal bonfire” from a “signal spark”. We have observed a signal increase while attentions are being focused on the signal, with a subsequent complete fade back to faintness after the recipients have been removed.

Why can you tune such a weak station, periodically making “fine adjustments”, and obtain a signal magnification? Tuning a weak signal through a ground antenna, and then observing the manner in which that signal actually “grows” in strength for a human recipient, is a demonstration of radionic significance. The same has been observed when radionic currents are selected through tuning instruments, and allowed to stimulate a biomonitored plant. The results are always the same, plant responses indicating the gradual increase of radionic current strength. Unlike aerial currents, ground signals are more intensely radionic in nature. They actively seek to infuse appropriate bio-organismic “capacities”. Ground currents enter the receiver and are there entuned. The receiving circuit projects an infusive and thready auric radiance which floods the listening space until its natural saturation has been reached.

Those who are in the listening space add an additional absorptivity, a capacity to allow a continued projection of auric emanations. This continued projectivity into proximal recipients produces several characteristic attributes. Recipients who possess an innate desire, an emotional response for the signals, produce sudden surges in the reception strength. When attention is strongly focused on some faint signal, then it will grow. The ground emerging signals will therefore intensify for you and those with you in a room, pouring into the listening space and being thus articulated among human “capacities”. As radio signals are loaded with the articulation of human attention, the signal will grow more rapidly. It has recently been observed that the very same signal, when later left unattended, will fade back into the crashing background. Desirous attempts made to relocate and raise the same signal are not unsuccessful. The absence of appropriate numbers in the human recipients will modify the rapidity of signal growth. The humanly guided tuning process which engages such signals actually entunes the recipients in a radionic manner.

The refinement and entunement of such signals are very obviously a radionic phenomenon of the deepest significance. Entuned magnification effects are therefore radionic entunement effects, the magnification of human articulations by human recipients. Neither electrical nor radio currents possess the articulate nature capable of exhibiting such a detailed biodynamic function. We have previously demonstrated this phenomenon with biomonitored plants, an effect which experimenters may easily reproduce. The implications of this strange effect are enormous for the theoretician. They compel the examination of every notion of radio signal causality. The only researcher who has treated this effect is Eric Dollard, whose excellent work describes “energy reciprocation” between Tesla impulse transmitters and receivers.

The fact that signals may be drawn from ground on human demand, and automagnified by human presence, should provoke heated debate. How can one explain the veritable control of a distant transmitter by a small receiver? In a biodynamic sense, we are not required to address distant transmitters, since ground currents automagnify with regularity. The additional energy which feeds radionically entuned and capacity-demanded ground signals is sourced within the great subterranean depths.

OBSERVATION 4

You will notice that, soon after you have first introduced the pipe into the ground, your first received stations will begin to “grow” in strength. This effect will continue for days, growing in increments of strength and clarity. Fixed volumes begin to reach levelled states in 2 or 3 days, a growth process uncommon with aerial signals. But beyond the signal growth of the strong stations, one begins observing the gradual increase in station numbers with time. Your initially strong stations, those which grew in the course of 3 days, will now become interspersed by a great population of faint signals. This “background” population will then increase in magnitude and clarity until your sweep dial is filled with an immense “crackling”. By day 4 or 5 with this arrangement, my sweep dial was literally covered with the continual “crackle” of new signals.

Sweeping the dial will thus continually bring in tiny signal “granules” between the stronger signals, those which normally mask these almost imperceptible stations. The gradual appearance of new stations, and the gradual “arrival” of a great many minor signals, begins manifesting with time. The buried pipe becomes a “receptive site”, into which the upwelling currents actively pour. These effects were rediscovered when buried metals began producing their characteristic “tone signatures”. A singularly fascinating study, we found that each buried metal literally became “saturated” with ground currents. This saturation process also required a gradual period of time (Earth Tones audio tape, BSRF).

Because of the slow growth process, where stations grow in both strength and number with time, one must eventually secure a larger “capacity” receiver. One learns that shortwave radionic applications need specific and well designed receivers — of the vacuum tube type or germanium transistor variety. Many of the newer digital models are insufficient. Through a gradual familiarity with numerous models, each experimenter will settle upon the use of one or two particular favorites. Mr. William Lehr rebuilt a Zenith Trans-Oceanic for me. It is a receiver which I cherish, not only because of its wonderful “warm” tone and excellent operation with the ground antenna, but because he rebuilt it for me personally. The popular set is equipped with small screw terminals, one for the normal onboard telescoping antenna, and the other for a ground wire. I disengaged the onboard telescoping antenna, connecting its internal lead wire instead to the ground screw. The ground antenna was then connected to the aerial screw.

In this reversal, the receiver recognizes the ground antenna as the “aerial”, while the collapsible onboard antenna is recognized as the “ground”. This “inversion” of radio inputs more effectively works the shortwave capacity in absorbing ground emerging signals, the collapsible aerial becoming a miniature “counterpoise” ground. A great many separate phenomena are noted with this arrangement, one pioneered by Nikola Tesla and (most recently) explored in greatest depth by Mr. Eric Dollard. Touching the telescoping “ground” causes the complete eradication of signal strengths across the dial, the withdrawal of this touch causing the characteristic slow return to original volume. One discovers now the necessity of adjusting the telescopic “ground” with each tuned station, a means by which increased “room capacity” is achieved. The telescopic “ground” facilitates an increased connectivity within the volume of space surrounding the receiver.

OBSERVATION 5

With persistent saturation, your ground pipe antenna will continue producing a surprising proliferation of signals. In this growing manner, signals kept appearing from greater and greater distances. Understand that the reception of foreign signals through the ground matrix is completely different from that which presupposes the downward “skybeaming” of signals. With ground reception there is no “skipping”. Ground reception is the result of direct contact conduction. Signals have to travel from their sources to you…in straight lines! You may therefore understand that the most weak and distant stations, those innumerable transmitters which lie in the “geography between” yourself and certain strong foreign stations, will begin to make their appearance. A slow growth period will prove this effect to you.

But the loss of signal population, when the pipe is retracted for a few minutes, cannot be comprehended unless we further examine the “signal accretion” phenomenon. The acquisition of new stations into a ground antenna occurs throughout the day, regardless of the weather or time. The Radionists who studied these phenomena recognized that ground emerging signals actively seek out both ground-proximal metals as well as those which are actually buried. Ground currents can rise to the surface when metal probes are simply aimed toward the ground. It has been observed that the mere positioning of a blunt-ended cable over ground is sufficient to cause an upward flow of ground currents, a reception of signals being obtained (Theroux).

The process is one by which ground currents literally “attach” themselves to the downward pointing conductor, entwining and fixating themselves through time. If this is true for conductors which merely point into earth, the same is especially true of metalloforms which have been buried. The upwelling emergence of ground currents is the result of the pipe itself, a response to a metal body which has been buried near the surface. The ground antenna behaves as a very definitive metallic “attractor”. Driven down into a few feet of earth, metal structures literally attract ground currents from their deeply consigned pathways upward. The process of attraction and accretion requires time. This explains why signal strengths begin to grow when buried terminals are first buried, continuing until the pipe and receiver have reached their capacity to absorb.

The withdrawal of signals, after the pipe has been momentarily disturbed, is problematic from every electrical point of view. What principle can be cited in explanation of this remarkable signal disappearing act? What causes the signals to “shrink away” from the ground terminal when its growing potential has been disturbed for a few moments of inspection? This “disengagement phenomenon”, the striking disappearance of signals, compels the recognition of an “irritability” factor when dealing with ground currents. Irritability is a biological characteristic not present in electrical currents. What have these signals to do with biological activities? Wishing to address those skeptics who cannot accept this energetic growth characteristic in grounded terminals, I pulled up the pipe to better inspect its surface. Fully expecting to find the metal “pitted” in thousands of tiny corrosion points”, the probable points in which the innumerable signals appeared, I was not a small bit shocked to find the pipe in excellent condition. There was not a bit of visible corrosion, certainly no pitting or scarring in the otherwise brilliant sheen which it had when I pounded it down into the earth. But the mystery did not stop there.

I placed the pipe back into a new location, adjacent to its original ground chamber. Thus driven down to the exact depth as it had been before, I went inside to listen once again. All but the strongest signals had disappeared. Obviously, the multiplication of signals is not the result of corrosion, not the result of continued ground “electrolysis”. While “pitting” the pipe exterior with innumerable exposures will increase the effective conductive surface of any pipe to an amazing degree, such corrosion will play little part in the actual increase of signal receptivity. In fact, neither ground antennas nor earth batteries corrode; a perplexing fact which we have rediscovered long after Nathan Stubblefield made its first mentioned.

OBSERVATION 6

Deep fades are never heard with ground antennas, but one does observe sudden “sweeps” which indicate strange and instantaneous ground disturbances. These do not disturb station reception, certainly not distorting or destabilizing the actual signals being received. Using ground antennas, only a very slow wavering is sometimes observed. These exceedingly slow waverings occur with no clock-like regularity, suggesting that true biological pulsations are being observed. Such exhibitions were once referred to me by Dan Winter as the deep earth “tides”, meaning by this that the biodynamic currents clearly engage in native pulsations. Since we have never glimpsed those currents of enormous vital potential, those “dragons” which normally reside deep in the heart of earth. These currents are definitely modified by influences in outer space, rising toward the surface during certain seasons, and diving back down to their mysterious haunts once again.

During sun-transitional hours, ground received SW signals do not appear to be “geodesically” selected. In other words, one does not receive a complete “global sweep” of signals, from nation to nation. The “sweep” may display continuity across a large region of ground, a cluster of neighboring nations being heard in sequence, but each region is not received with continuity. One discovers that whole regions of the earth suddenly emerge from the SW background and literally predominate the reception field.

Selectivity of signals through the ground occurs as if whole regions of the world have been “switched” on and off — independent of station schedules. Directly and most strongly related to lunar phase, one observes the sudden emergence of whole regional group signals which take preeminence over all others. One can tell the portion of a lunar month by these strange regional “fluorescences”, an amazingly repetitive pattern. In Staten Island, ground radio signals follow a mysterious pattern of arrivals. Modulated by the moon, signals from Canada (New), Northern Europe (First Quarter), South America (Full), the Mediterranean (Last Quarter) will predominate across the available broadcast bands.

EXPERIMENT WITH the “Subantenna” coil

(M. Theroux)

The “Subantenna” coil will require a bit more work on the part of the experimenter to construct, but is a worthy undertaking as we can see from the ad that this design was a commercial success. It has also proven itself over and above simple grounded rods, to be a highly sensitive receiver when properly placed in the ground. Its construction is actually quite simple. You will need roughly 30 feet of RG 58 coaxial cable, one roll of black electrical tape, one alligator clip, a pair of scissors, and a pair of wire strippers. The “Subantenna” coil, when finished will be about 4-5 inches tall and 6 inches in diameter. Start by cutting the wire into two sections — one 16 feet long for the coil — the remaining 14 feet will be used for connection to your radio. Begin winding the first turn of the coil (using the 16 ft. section) so that it is exactly 6 inches in diameter. No coil form is necessary with this method — as you add each successive turn, you will be taping the turns together in three evenly separated places. Add another turn and tape. By the time you are finished, you will have about ten full turns. Cover the bottom bare end of the coax wire with tape. You should have about 6 inches of free wire at the top of your coil. Strip away about 1 inch from this end exposing the middle conductor wire. This solid wire is the “connection point” for the lead wire to your external antenna jack on your shortwave or AM radio. Cut away the excess shielding so that it is flush with the insulation. You are now ready to bury the “Subantenna” coil. Choose a spot of soft ground free from hazard, and bury the coil (be sure your “connection point” is sticking above ground or you’ll be digging it up again). Fasten the alligator clip to one end of the remaining 14 ft. piece of coax, clipping this onto the exposed middle conductor of the coil. You can now run this wire to your radio, fastening it to the external antenna terminal. If there is a specific jack for the external antenna, you may need to match it with the proper plug.

Observations

Initially, one will notice a substantial increase in reception. The most intriguing aspect of the Subantenna, or any grounded aerial, is its ability to cause signals to grow in intensity over a period of a time. After a few days one will be able to hear signals with increased clarity and depth. One of the most important features of this ground antenna is its static free reception. You will note that the conductor in the coil is insulated from the actual earth itself — conductivity plays no role in the function of this design. While the Subantenna coil filters static and brings in signals with extreme distinctness, there are drawbacks. One may notice after the coil has had sufficient time to become saturated with ground currents, reception of signals becomes so powerful that stations normally considered far enough apart, will “bleed over” onto one another. I have experienced five distinct stations hundreds of miles apart, pouring through the radio on one frequency at the same time. This can be a problem with weaker local stations being absorbed by more powerful distant stations, but generally the 50,000 watt AM stations ring through clearly. Only on given nights does this bleed over occur.

The warmth, clarity, response, and strength of such grounded radio systems are testimony enough. Coupled with the empirical reports and logs previously mentioned, plenty of proof is provided that, in many instances (especially concerning eidetic content), ground radio is a superior form of reception over Hertzian receivers. Curiously enough, we have seen many return to their antennas after having experienced radio through the ground. While no explanation is given, we assume they may need to hold on to the belief that radio only flies on waves through the air — all the while listening to the crackle, hiss, and fade of their favorite station.

Sound-Mills

by Silvanus P. Thompson

Nature 29 (363-364), 14 February 1884

AFTER the notable researches of Crookes on radiation, which culminated in the discovery of the radiometer, or lightmill, it was a natural transition of thought which suggested to several minds almost simultaneously the possibility of devising an apparatus which should rotate under the influence of sound waves as does the radiometer under the influence of the rays of light and heat. Such instruments were indeed devised independently about six years ago by Lord Rayleigh, by Prof Alfred M. Mayer of Hoboken, by Mr Edison, the well-known inventor, by Prof Mach of Prague, by Dr A. Haberditzel of Vienna, and by Prof Dvorak of the University of Agram (in Croatia). These researches, though of great scientific interest, have been somewhat overlooked in the rush of scientific inventions during the intervening years. During the course of the past year, however, Dvorak has given to the world, in the pages of the Zeitschrift der Instrumentenkunde (vol. iii, Heft 4), a detailed account of his experiments, together with figures of various piece of apparatus hitherto undescribed. We propose to give a resume of the principal points of Dvorak’s researches.

Four kinds of sound-mills are described by Dvorak, two of them depending on the repulsion of resonant boxes or cases, and two others on different principles.

Diagram - Fig. 1-4

The first of these instruments is depicted in Fig. 1, and consists of a light wooden cross, balanced on a needle point, carrying four light resonators made of glass. These resonators are hollow balls of 4.4 cm. diameter, with an opening of 0.4 cm. diameter at one side. They respond to the note G (392 vibrations). When the note G is forcibly sounded by an appropriate tuning fork, the air in each of the resonators vibrates in response, and the apparatus begins to rotate. As a resonator will respond when placed in any position with respect to the source of sound, it is clear that one single resonator properly balanced should rotate; and this is found to be the case, though, naturally, the action is more certain with four resonators than with one.

Before proceeding to the other forms of sound-mill devised by Dvorak, it may be well to explain briefly the cause of the phenomenon, and to describe Dvorak’s particular method of exciting the appropriate sound, Dvorak has pointed out, as indeed has been done elsewhere both by Lord Rayleigh and by Prof A. M. Mayer, that, when sounds of great intensity are produced, the calculations which are usually only carried to the first order of approximation cease to be adequate, because now the amplitude of motion of the particles in the sound wave is not infinitely small as compared with the lengths of the sound-waves themselves. Mathematical analysis shows that under these circumstances the mean of the pressures in the condensed part and in the rarefied part of the sound-wave is no longer equal to the undisturbed atmospheric pressure, but is always greater. Consequently at all nodal points in the vibrations of the air in tubes or resonant boxes, the pressure of the air is greater than elsewhere, and therefore any resonator closed at one side and open at the other is urged along bodily by the slight internal excess of pressure on the closed end. The apparatus, Fig. 1, therefore rotates by reaction, in the same way as the top and bottom, while the air cavity was tuned by enlarging the circular opening in front. In the later researches the box stood on four feet made of India rubber tubing. The note of the fork so mounted was very strong. At 40 cm. distance it would set the sound-mill in motion.

Dvorak’s second apparatus, a “rotating resonator” consists of a short cylindrical box, constructed of stiff glazed paper, having four projections, shown on plan and elevation in Fig. 3, each of which bears at its side a short open tube of paper. It is, in fact, a resonator with four openings, arranged so that it can be hung upon a silk fiber. A fine needle projects also below to steady the motion during its rotation, which occurs whenever the apparatus is brought near to the sounding-fork. For the note G the dimensions were: diameter, 7 cm.; height 8.6 cm.; diameter of openings, 0.6 cm.

D - Fig. 5

The third apparatus is the “sound radiometer” described by Dvorak before the Imperial Viennese Academy in 1881. Its cause of action is less readily explained, though its construction is even more simple. Its form is shown in Fig. 4, D; there being, as before, a light cross of wood, pivoted by a glass cap upon a vertical needle. To the four arms of the cross are cemented four pieces of fine white card, about 0.08 cm. thick, perforated with holes which are depressed conically at one side, and raised at the other. These holes may be made by punching the card upon a lead block with a steel perforating-punch of the form shown in Fig. 5A, the dimensions of which are: a b = 0.38 cm.; c d = 0.2 cm. The holes should be from 0.6 to 0.65 cm. apart from one another. When a card so perforated is held in front of the opening of the resonant box of the tuning fork, it is repelled if the smaller ends of the conical holes are toward the box. A better but less simple way of perforating the cards is by the use of the conical steel punch shown in Fig. 5B; and the matrix, Fig. 5C. The angle of the cone is 55′, and the narrow projecting nose of steel is 0.2 cm. For this purpose he places between the prongs of the fork an electromagnet constructed of the following plan. Two plates of iron separated by a sheet of paper are used as a core. They are cut of such a breadth as to lie between the prongs without touching them. This core is overwound with insulated copper wire, as shown at E, Fig. 2, and the electromagnets then mounted by a bent piece of wood, a b c, upon the sounding box, K, of the fork. The wires are connected in a circuit with a battery, and with the electromagnet of a self-exciting tuning fork of the same note. Dr. Dvorak is extremely particular about the arrangement of the resonant boxes of his tuning forks. They must not touch the table, the arm, a b c, being clipped at about the point b in a firm support. Moreover, the resonant boxes themselves require to be specially tuned, for all are not equally good. Dr. Dvorak points out that, besides the tone of the fork, and the tone of the air column in the cavity of the box, there is also a tone proper to the wood of the box itself which in most of the forks used in acoustic researches is too base, the wooden walls being too thin. To hear this tone the prongs of the fork should be damped by sticking a cork between them, and the cavity should be filled with cotton wool while the wooden box is gently struck with the knuckle or with a cork hammer. It is important that the wood tone should be tuned up to coincide with the tone of the fork and with that of the air in the cavity. Dr. Dvorak himself used the box depicted further on in Fig. 6, in which drawing F is the socket into which the stem of the fork was screwed. The rotations are more rapid if the cards are set on obliquely in the fashion shown in Fig. 4E, the burred sides being outward. Cards with twenty five perforations so mounted rotate briskly when the “mill” is set in front of the resonant box.

D - Fig. 6

The fourth apparatus of Dvorak is called by him an “acoustic anemometer”. It is shown in Fig. 6. This is merely a little “mill” of simple construction, the valves being small pieces of stiff paper or card slightly curved. The sounding box previously described is placed a little way from it, and between them is held an ordinary Helmholtz’s resonator, with its wide mouth b turned toward the box, and its narrow opening a toward the mill. From what has been previously said it will be understood that the internal increase of pressure in the resonator at a has the effect of driving a jet of air gently against the sails of the mill, which consequently rotates. Dr. Dvorak also suggests that this two-aperture resonator may be replaced by one having but one aperture, as shown, as shown as R, with its open side i, turned toward the mill. This resonator is formed of a glass ball cut away at one side and cemented to a glass plate having a small hole in the center. It may be remarked that when the air ejected from the mouth of this resonator is examined by the method of mixing smoke with it, and then viewing it through slits cut in a rotating disk, the currents are seen to consist of a series of vortex rings.

A second kind of “acoustic anemometer” may be made by taking a card pierced 100 conical holes, as previously described, and placing this between the resonant box and the “mill”. The latter rotates in the wind which passes through the conical holes.

Space does not admit of a comparison being drawn between these instruments and those of Mayer, Mach, and others, which are very closely akin in their design and mode of action, interesting though, such a comparison might be. Nor can we here compare the action of these instruments with the “phonometer” with which Mr. Edison literally accomplished the feat of talking a hole through a dead board. But this remarkable machine was a purely mechanical toy, which converted the vibrations of the voice, by means of a very finely cut ratchet wheel, into a motion of rotation round an axis. – Silvanus P. Thompson

Dvorak’s Sound Radiometer

The Electrical World

14 June 1884

A very interesting conversazione was given in London by Prof. Huxley as President of the Royal Society, on the evening of the 7th ult. One of the most interesting contributions to the objects exhibited was Herr Dvorak’s sound radiometer, which we illustrate on the next page, and which was exhibited by Mr. W. H. Preece, F.R.S. In this apparatus, which attracted considerable attention, a wheel is set into rapid rotation by the sound waves produced by a vibrating tuning fork. Referring to the figure, T is a large tuning fork mounted on a resonating chamber R, and maintained in continual vibration by an electromagnet C fixed between its prongs, to which an intermittent current of electricity is transmitted by a contact breaker consisting of a similar fork timed in unison with T, with which it is connected by the wires x and y. Opposite the orifice of the resonating chamber R, and on the same horizontal axis, is placed a Helmholtz resonator K and in front of its small end is placed the instrument shown at L, which consists of six little Helmholtz resonators fixed round the circumference of a wheel which is poised at its centre on a needle point so as to be capable of rotation in a horizontal plane after the manner of a compass card. The little resonators are attached to the wheel in such a manner that their axes are tangential to their circle of rotation, their smaller ends pointing in the direction in which they revolve. When the tuning fork T is set into action the air within the chamber R takes up the vibration and the sound is greatly reinforced, and this is more marked if a mass of cotton wool or soft rubber be interposed between the chamber R and the table. The action of the Helmholtz resonator K, is to take up the sound waves and to concentrate them in the direction of the revolving instrument L, and this effect is so strongly produced that, if the finger be placed a short distance in front of the smaller orifice of K, a sensation is felt which if indistinguishable from that which would be produced by a rapid intermittent jet of air issuing from the nozzle. The rotation of the wheel L may be due to the fact that as the air within each of the little resonators L is thrown into vibration under the influence of the sonorous vibrations, and in the direction of its axis, and as it is freely open to the external air toward one end of that axis, it is probable that the energy of motion expends itself partly on the envelope and partly on the air, and the former receiving a greater proportion over that part of its surface which is opposite to the large orifice than in the contrary direction, rotation takes place.

The Electrical World - Dvorak's Sound Radiometer - 14 June 1884

We are, however, rather inclined says Engineering, to which we are indebted for these details, to place the phenomenon in the same class with those discovered by Professor Bjerknes, and illustrated in the beautiful experiments of himself and his son, and to attribute the action to the effect of one vibrating body upon another through the intervention of a common vibrating fluid medium.

Patent 210,767 - T. A. Edison - Vocal Engine

Patent 210,767 - T. A. Edison - Vocal Engine (abstract)

United States Patent Office.

THOMAS A. EDISON, OF MENLO PARK, NEW JERSEY.

IMPROVEMENT IN VOCAL ENGINES.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 210,767, dated December 10,1878; application filed November 27, 1878.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, Thomas A. Edison, of Menlo Park, Middlesex county, State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Vocal Engines; and do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification.

The object of my invention is to transform the vibrations of a diaphragm or other body capable of being set in-vibration by soundwaves into continuous rotation of a shaft, to act as a prime motor, for various light mechanisms.

My invention consists in the combination, with a diaphragm sensitive to sound-waves, of a shaft between centers having a fly-wheel attached, and combining the diaphragm therewith by a friction-clutch, which, when reciprocated by the vibration of the diaphragm, acts upon a shaft so as to continuously rotate the same when the diaphragm is actuated by sound-waves.

Figure 1 is a front view of my apparatus. Figs. 2 and 3 are side views of the same.

In Fig. 1, C is the diaphragm, of any convenient material, which is secured to the frame A by the ring D and screws XX. B is a mouth-piece for concentrating the air-waves upon the diaphragm. F is a cork secured to the center of the diaphragm. 2 is a rubber tube, into which a pin is secured. This pin connects the rubber with the reciprocating lever G, whose fulcrum is upon the shaft 3.

P is a click or pawl resting upon the wheel H, and pressed against its surface by the spring O. K is another click, secured to the upright M, which serves to prevent a backward motion of the shaft. E is a fly-wheel, for storing, by momentum, the intermittent power, and thus keeping the shaft in continuous rotation. The shaft 3 runs in centers between the uprights M and N. The whole is secured to the base W.

The action is as follows: When the mouth is placed in proximity to the mouth-piece B, and several words are spoken, or a musical note given, the sound-waves, striking the diaphragm, set it in vibration. This, in turn, reciprocates the lever G, causing the shaft to be carried forward a small distance at every vibration, and the momentum of the fly-wheel transforms these minute impulses into continuous rotation of the shaft. A small grooved pulley, 4, Fig. 1, is attached to the shaft, in the groove of which a continuous thread or band may pass to any light mechanism, and thus give motion.

I do not wish to confine myself to any particular mechanism for transforming the vibratory motion of the diaphragm into continuous motion, as a ratchet-wheel and click and many other well-known mechanical equivalents may be used. If either do I wish to confine myself to a pulley and cord for connecting the prime mover to the apparatas to be set in motion, as a worm and wheel or toothed wheel or friction-wheel may be substituted instead.

A large cone may be inserted in the mouthpiece B, for collecting extraneous sounds and causing them to move the diaphragm.

This apparatus is useful for giving motion to clocks and other small apparatus requiring minute power.

I claim as my invention—

A vocal engine consisting of a diaphragm or other body capable of being set in motion by sound-waves, a shaft, and reciprocating mechanism, substantially as and in the manner set forth.

RADIONIC RATES & OVERTONES

Against the background of ground generated noises each material is identified through its own differentiable series of overtones. Each tone signature conforms with the essence of the material from which it emanates: materials each maintain their fixed identity throughout every sensate range. Material identities are continuous and fixed, maintaining and representing their created essence. [Iron "sounds" metallic, carbon sounds "warm", amethyst is accompanied by a rich "dark-violet" sensation). The overtones of each material are psychoactive signals: living energies which transact the essence of their parent bodies directly into us. The iron overtones prove to give the sharp odor and sense of the metal upon listening. Copper did the same with a "sweet" odor. The studies of B. Payne with planetary light and water are corroborated in the audio realm with similar phenomena.

In every new sample I have discovered different overtone "warblings", different overtone "dances". These include varieties which (without precedent) suddenly make their audible appearance during each recording. The curious feature of these "sudden overtones" is that (once they appear) they do not cease! This phenomenon suggests that each new such sound registers the advent of some "tonal conductivity" which the materials each engage when in the ground alter a time. For this reason I always allow each sample to "soak" in the ground aura for a long while before committing their tones to a recording.

While listening to the playback and the various speed-regulated tracks taken from each material, I became aware that each tone-signature exhibits measurable radionic aspects. In attempting to balance tones (against a raised volume level) I realized that certain overtones were suddenly appearing in the mix as I simply adjusted the volume control. To my utter amazement, I found it possible to entune 2 or 3 distinct "bands" of overtones in the tree recordings WITH THE VOLUMES CONTROL ALONE! Within these harmonic bands there exist many fine-degrees of overtone shifts which cannot be accurately reproduced on cassette tape. Those bands which you will hear are the major boundaries between tone-groupings. Only these major boundaries are successfully translated to cassette, occurring at the very limit of the tape transfer process. In addition, one MUST USE HEADPHONES to hear each overtone distinction!

Through this simple means I was amazingly able to detect real (radionic) overtone groupings when using various volume settings for each material in my collection. Tuning pitch through a volume control is anomalous if you do not understand radionics. These overtone groups are not the ordinary result of audio distortion: I made sure that the signals were not distorting at the console. The potentiometers (slide controls) were acting just as radionic tuners. Volume settings represent different path-lengths through resistive materials. Auric signals travel outside or through the resistive material according to their energy level. Nodes are formed where the energies emerge. These are sensed and located as "stick points".

The emergence of distinct overtone groups is shattering to all conventional criticisms. If I were to assert the essential living quality which I hear in these overtones few (I doubt) would accept the statement. This demonstrable fact however indicates that tone-signatures are more than just complex collections of tones and pitch: they are possessed of a true and living nature. If the overtone groups were the result of ordinary distortion, then each sample would offer the same variations upon adjusting the potentiometers. But these are found on different locations of the volume setting and each have distinct details which mutually differ. This discovery was an accidental observation.

The discovery that tone-signatures do not all share the same radionic sounds or the same number of overtone bands was unexpected. Two such variations existed for the magnetic pickup recordings but were not as strongly defined as those taken through materials which were buried. The organic recordings were (not surprisingly) the very samples which yielded the greatest number of radionic sounds when "entuned" through the volume control. I have recorded samples in which these variations of overtones (with potentiometer adjustments) are demonstrated. This represents the radionic tuning of sounds through a slide-resistor! I found 2 or 3 overtone bands when testing the tree-root signals.

A critical friend of mine (I have many) cited that capacitance and inductance values could shift these overtones through the subtle tuning effect within the potentiometer. With these audio frequencies the negligible changes in lumped resonance values cannot possibly alter the overtones to such an audible degree. I am sure however that critical analysts will not rest until they have found some corresponding mechanism through which the "living quality" will be reviled. When the mind's eye is opened... all is life.

These recordings may be considered as the first truly original radionic sound recordings. They are ultra-rich in radionic potentials and are capable of being entuned through Hieronymus-type analyzers. What these new facts witness is further corroboration of the non-electromagnetic character of these energies. These signals are so rich in organic energies that they allow audibly detected radionic tunings to take place. I had considered the possible effect of "probe poisoning" of the probe site. I learned with time that each sample requires several moments before it can saturate with the ground power and achieve material-resonance. Time is required for each sample to reach its constant and characteristic tonal signature.

We can actually hear this phenomenon during the course of the experimental soundings. One can hear the very moment at which the probe material becomes "super-radiant". This process seems to involve some form of polarization (but we cannot define the symmetries by which materials polarize) and a certain energetic saturation. We actually hear the spontaneous progression with time. The sudden advent of previously unheard overtones (listen to amethyst!) is evidence of this phenomenon and process. [The key to extracting ground power is the entunement process; through which it is possible to draw all tones into specifically ordained elemental "windows"].

Probes gradually become “energetically polarized”; they take time to reach maximum signal intensity. This is possibly due to a more highly conductive state through which ground power enters both probe and monitoring systems, a conductivity which is more fundamental than electrical conductivity. The gradual and continual appearance of distinct overtones becomes the evident feature of a subtle and progressive saturation process. I am reminded of similar findings reported by Baron Karl von Reichenbach.

It is always wise to allow probes to “rest awhile” in the earth before actually monitoring their signals. This feature of great interest (and anomalously unconventional) represents the mysterious self-intensification of received signals over a time period. We find that these signals (once set in the “safe” recording threshold) suddenly thus manifest the “danger point” at the console.

The discovery of tone-signatures provides a potentially powerful diagnostic tool for chemists and mining engineers. Through such means it would be possible to locate deeply buried ores and mineral lodes (from ground levels) through tones which emanate from the subterranean deposits. The tension which enters the probe must be considerable; it is definitely not electric or electrical in its primary form. When handling the probe rod I find that the personal reception of radionic impressions actually becomes greater in power. Furthermore, this personal awareness increases when simply pointing the probe groundward or along ground ray-lines.

It was intriguing that the handling of the single lead wire (once the sample had reached its conductive state) could produce “microphonic” crackling sounds once the probe was buried. The sound suggested a strange degree of “high tension” in the thin wire: an anomaly. One critic mentioned that this was an effect of such a configuration… “acting as an electret”: something very unusual with low voltage “electricity”. These crackling sounds suggested a degree of tension in the thin lead-in wire. I yet have the strongest impression that this tension is a formative (crystalline) permeation emanating through the sample material: insensate radionic energy.

Furthermore, the fact that the ground potential energies can “spring” into the monopolar single wireline indicates the vigorous degree to which they are “highly active”. This activity also does not seem to require specific “wavelengths” of single wire or “oscillatory tanks”. The mixing console is not made to oscillate at those frequencies. In addition I wish to point out that each sample was passed through a loading coil of considerable inductance. The filtering effect of such a coil on high-frequency signals is well-known. I have received soundings through long single wirelines (20 yards) and short ones (1-3 yards) with no difference in received overtones. Critical lengths in the receiving circuitry is not an important feature with this energy. Not requiring any “return circuit”‘ in order to effect their signatures, these energies represent an immense reservoir of subterranean power deserving our investigations in earnest. I infer that the ground-generator (while seemingly inactive) is actually vast in its own (insensate) activities.

LIVING GROUND POTENTIALS

Space does not produce the volume of sound as found in the ground. M. Theroux demonstrates this with his dipolar ground receivers. The aerial rods never produce the same amount of sound as do the ground rods – except when hand held! The best volumes for recording ground~rods were registered when the central core of my lead lines (the shielded part of the coaxial cable) was used and tapped. This is a perplexing feature when interpreting the results from a conventional stance: there is no reason why either the inner or the outer cable portion of the connecting cable should offer such a vast degree of conductive difference to these energies. No “return wire” was made in order to provide a dipolar circuit in my experiments.

If there is a “return circuit” then it is most certainly of rayic nature. Dr. Drown and Dr. Chapman always spoke of this mysterious “auric connectivity” in the absence of conductive lines. Much of radionic apparatus designs makes these hyperdimensional ray-circuits into account. Furthermore, there is no “ready power” at the console site capable of entering the ground and registering signals. The fact that the varieties of probe materials each are possessed of vastly different overtone content should eliminate these critical considerations entirely. These overtones are not the result of ordinary heterodyning. They continue to appear as constants in spite of graphic equalization.

It is well known that the very ground upon which we walk is seething with all manner of ray energies. That materials do not generally emit such kinds of energies (when held aloft) must be better appreciated. M. Theroux shows this repeatedly in his recordings: where only the buried portion of the configuration (when free) releases sounds. Of course Mr. Theroux conducted several experiments when half of the probe circuitry was held aloft (the ground probe was also held): in which case a thundering and dramatic surging of power was at once evidenced. The organic presence makes the difference!

Investigators of “the subterranean deep” have known that ground-energy manifestations are exceedingly more potent than those of upper-space. The ground is indeed a very special reservoir of life-generating energy, a focus of intense dynamics where rays (of intense power) transact and interblend. We are chiefly intrigued with the rayic aspects which thunder, crystallize, and sustain the very structure of consciousness from the indispensable ground. The ground is a vast generator of conscious and living powers, whose componentry consists of metal lodes and mineral deposits through vein structures. Its caverns are resonators. The nature and regional source of sounds heard “in the head” shortly before entrance into sleep requires afar greater study of ground power surges (which are registered daily alter midnight). Immensely powerful rays have been diffracted into the ground strata where they surge in vast and mysteriously insensate transactions. The ground appears to be essentially inactive except to sensitives. Devices and apparatus which seem “inactive” are actually operating at immensely potent degrees of insensate activity, the key toward comprehending future technology. This energy of the ground is primarily an experiential one through which consciousness is mediated into our being. All the other effects of this singular presence reveal the plenary nature of powers which are ours to use. Through the ordained ground points we may achieve and experience deep rayic connections.

Created things (trees, minerals, mountains, lakes, humans, etc.) are both generated and sustained by this grand power. When Victorian science spoke of the earth as a reservoir of energy, admixing the prevalent view that auric energy was primary to electrical energy. The Victorian emphasis was always upon the vitalistic energies. What we need to pursue are the means through which this energy may be appropriately transmuted into light, heat, motive force, empathic telecommunications, healing force, and mind-expansive potentials.

These new tonal forms offer fresh evidence and insight concerning the “indispensable ground”. The power which resides in the ground is potent in giving the listener sudden and impromptu (resonant) displays of extended consciousness. Psychoactive effects began to appear among the discoveries made with tone-signatures. Effects in which the radionic sensitivities of the body are enhanced through exposure to these sounds was marked. While working with the large carbon rod I experienced a distinct sensation of very rapid (10-20 per second) energetic rotations in the space surrounding the rod. This was especially powerful whenever the rod was pointed toward the ground. I had noticed this aetheric action with other materials before. I also learned that by specific kinds of “loadings” on such materials (iron ring, copper windings, organic blocks in proximity) that it was possible to slow and intensify this aetheric vortex. In order to test the aetheric potentials of “vortex action” which was felt surrounding the carbon rod, I conducted an experiment in vortex induction. The concept was to attempt the entrainment of electrical energies in a wire helix.

I used an insulated coil wrapped (CCW) around a large carbon rod and buried it (25 cm. deep) with the remainder (50 cm. standing above the soil level. The coil “wrapping” was made of 200 tight turns of telephone wire in a single layer. This wrapping was single terminated; the ground-sided end was crimped (exposing no metal) and was completely contact-covered by a very thick acetate tape. The free line-end was above ground; this was connected to the monopolar single wire and made connection thus with the console. I allowed this configuration to reach resonance in the ground for 15 minutes before sampling its sound. The results corroborate my claim that an anomalous primary activating energy is entering these arrangements.

The wrapping coil (plastic insulated) formed a powerful combination when coupled with the carbon. This did not impede the appearance of a most unusual (higher pitched) “buzz” along with the original carbon signature. The energy entering the system was strong; but not as strong as those monitored through the carbon alone. This energy is capable then of entering solids and heavily insulated wires alike. These two facts give more evidence which affirms that the primary energy (of ground) is not originally of an electrical nature.

Life-generating energies do not begin as electromagnetic signals. Life-generating energies may leave electromagnetic “tracers” (polarization trails in space) as their energetic presence is encountered. Furthermore, the manipulation of appropriate inertial elements to form electromagnetic polarizations in a space does not imply that living energy will he “summoned” into the core of that polarization: the effect is not reciprocal. In most instances life-generating energies cannot be detected through mere instrumentation, being a space which requires an experiential transaction. Life-generative energies therefore cannot be known except through certain of our senses directly (ganglier vision). Those who deny the subjective element of experiences can never “detect” life.

The generative power is sensed and desired by our beings. To deny its permeating reality is to live in willful ignorance. This power is subjectively sensed and discerned by all who are willing to allow themselves the joy of sensing and feeling with their whole being again. We can detect these energies through our being and can also register their presence through radionic (instrument) tuners; these tuners extend our subjective senses into other (inaccessible) experiential resonances. We have every assurance that cooperative modulations of this power is a singular providence with which humankind has been gifted: to work with the generative power is both our long-lost cultural dream.

ART AND POWER

My fascination with these sounds (as a musician) is epitomized by the eternal ringing of matter in the ground. When I examine the geo-radionic environment I do not experience “the waltz” melodies of romanticism. I do perceive the steady and endless emanation of eternal tones in their wondrous panoplies and combinations. I hear the mysterious joining of sounds — the permutation of tones through space and ground. Such direct reception is a goal realized. The composers and artists of the twentieth century developed the forgotten arts whereby auric apprehensions were directly expressed. The artistic stylization during this epoch were simply the artists’ own receptions of the aetheric worlds with which contact was made. Each artist expressed a different realm and artistic inflection because each artist is in tune with different space-resonances.

The musician has historically been associated with a process of externalization on behalf of the culture which they represent. Through the musical or artistic (aetheric healing, aetheric sight) the musician is able to express sounds which exist in the environment; and the artist is able to structure living forms which have been located in psychospace. These items are not heard or seen by most persons (although many do anticipate and apprehend them in some minimal manner). Expressing the sights and sounds of the geo-radionic environment was a lost art. The emergence of bourgeois artforms (catering to the aristocratic courts of Europe) plunged the world’s population into a “belle epoch” of frivolous self-indulgence.

The lost art of directly expressing the ray-auric sounds of the universe (Pythagoras, Fludd, Messaien, Ligeti) has re-emerged with explosive power. The conflagration which accompanied this reemergence (1900) caused some degree of dismay among the romanticists and impressionists. The biopathic inability to receive the higher dimensional sights and sounds of expressionism is ample evidence of schismatic human perception. The consequent social structures which have evolved as a result of this schism is easy to identify and group. There are those whose stubborn fixation on emotional content is sufficient evidence of rigidified and maudlin armoring, an unwilling fear of directly experiencing the true life of the universe without traditional masks, acceptable shields, or bourgeois pretense. Therefore I find this ground noise and matter-noise most fascinating and revelatory. With the rediscovered art comes a forgotten awareness. The frivolous artforms which do not connect us with the universe are self-referential and self-centered. The proliferation of bourgeois music and art entraps those whose attentions have been captivated into auto-emotive loops. The power of an art cannot be separated from its “place of origin”. The higher the dimensionality of artistic revelation, the greater the ability of that artform to translate the participants thereof.

Any artform is inseparable from its origin and its power to change lives. The vague and frivolous nature of weak derivative art reveals the degree of revelation which spawned the form. The loss of true connectivity with the living generator produces much of the mass-produced artforms which have flooded our society. Furthermore, those whose lives reflect loss of connectivity with the true and living generator are incapable of appreciating or accessing the pure expression of aetheric worlds. These individuals do not have the spiritual credentials or qualifications to speak. Having no comprehension of the geo-radionic environment and its powerful conscious permeations these persons live out their ignorance while operating through clotted emotions.

VITALISM AND INERTIALISM

The academic professions are known for their stance on subjective and experiential science: they refuse to “feel, sense, or experience” any phenomenon in the universe. With this “no-feel, no-touch, no-sense” doctrine they have effectively separated themselves from the very heart and meaning of the universe, all while professing to know all about it. The excessive descriptions with which they dazzle the naive betrays their essentially vacant experience of the vibrant universe. To merely measure and describe is not essential to our being, or capable of addressing the true need of humanity. Theirs is a message which is vacant as is their experience of the universe. They know nothing of the deeply ancient, enlivening, intelligent, and exotically sensual potentials of space itself.

What sensations and experiences academicians disallow is actually the essential message, meaning, and joy of being in a living; to deny this is to be insensitive and deranged. Through such biopathic dictates “against sensation” the academes have effectively blinded themselves from directly experiencing worlds which supervene and dominate those which they claim are central to the universe. The academe is not aware of the permeating domain through which all true cause emanates: the real source of the effects upon which academia fixates. This is the very rift which irreparably separates us from them. We reject any dogma which indites or disapproves of subjective sensations. We object to all such rule and will never concede our ground: they must come to us. A new barrage of anomalies has emerged from the domain; these will not be understood by academia.

In the matter of ground-power and radionic emanations the academe has been limited. The totality of academic expertise in these regards is pressed between two very narrow descriptive studies: “contact-potential” and “telluric electro-currents”. Within these two exceedingly narrow blades they have succeeded in satisfying all of their fears that a living earth actually exists! Measurements of the pressures resultant through the “contact-potential” of metal probes in the earth judge any and all measurable electrical potentials to be the mere result of electrolytic actions (metals-soils).

The second peephole through which they claim knowledge of the organized subterranean depths is summed in their measurements of “telluro-electric” pressures and currents. Geophysicists have charted and mapped many varieties of these currents for nearly a century now. They have a thorough catalogue of the directions and potentials involved in these minute and surface leakages. Telluric currents represent the smallest traction of a far more potent primary causative energy through which all these effects are manufactured.

Telluric pressures of inertia represent the mere fractional (electromagnetic) “debris” of a primary generative presence. This energy [being radionic rather than electrical in essence] is not prized for its work-performing ability. What we derive from this energy is primarily its revelatory potential: ideas, images, visions, symbols, melodies, designs, archetypes… “buried treasure”.

I have analyzed the comments of my critics to a degree which prevents them from convincing me of error or of damaging my continual joy. I have too often “given place” to such conventional analysis to my own detriment when young and inexperienced in these matters. The academe is a parasite whose discussion can closely parallel those of the vitalist, since inertial effects often simply follow vital causes. Inertialistic science is fully capable of shadowing the vitalist’s progress and discoveries. This may be understood by studying the path which vitalistic discovery actually takes.

Wherever there are vitalistic potentials at work in the universe there can be inertial responses and effects. While these do not parallel each other in all cases there is somewhat of a correspondence between both the causative domain and the realms of “effect”. Inertial effects do not always follow Vital Causes because of the limits of space-resistance. Space-resistance is the experiential interface through which vitalistic potentials pass. The interaction of vital rays with the space-resistance results in the manufacture of inertial polarizations and detritus. These alluring displays have captivated academicians for centuries. Without recognizing their error, the academes has continually attempted the description of reality from this manufactured level. Mistaking the effects for causes results in a singularly interesting (and annoying) human situation. We find that insensitive individuals are now making cosmological declarations which are entirely unfounded.

Furthermore, the amplified inability to sense vitalistic causes (rays and their aura) among the academes rigidifies their unwillingness to reject the manifestations to which they so passionately cling. This erroneous confusion between phenomenological cause and effect has torn the human community. Power struggles for domination, wealth, masteries, and acquisitions have resulted in the realm of human experience. The damaging results of inertial technology are ever-present. The instances where no inertialistic explanation can follow vitalistic causative action are excessive. The inertialistic “explanations” do not reciprocate the living cause: one cannot arrange a mechanism by which living potentials may be experienced. This was the Victorian “problem” when academicians attempted the regeneration of the dead through (mere) electrical means. Similar theories would insist that a simple mechanistic evolutionary process is responsible for all species. It infers that powders (taken from the crushing of a working watch) could regenerate a working watch after suitable agitation.

There are sensate realities (sensitivities) never known by the academes, causative worlds of living sense and experience. Such ignorance and insensitivity is typical in the pattern of biopathic anaesthesia. In this regard there have been more profound episodes, where significant vitalistic evidences have been totally “forgotten”, lost, and actively denied by academia: the very history of suppressed science and technology.

There are those instances where radionic activities do not register in any existing inertial meters, bypassing the space-resistance through which inertial effects (polarizations and detritus) are registered. In a mysterious manner such phenomenology indicates that the joys of radionic activity are reserved for those who willingly experience them. The central core of meaning and life is an experience — not a measurable quantity or a mass of alienating descriptions. Inertialistic understanding relies totally upon the measurable (dead) effects initiated by primary cause. Where no effects are produced the inertialist then dictates (usually vociferously) that “nothing is there”. Poor Monsieur Blondlot … you did see and experience the N-Rays!

DISCUSSION AND CRITICAL ANALYSIS

I have gradually realized that the important overtones in this research represent a real instance where a pivotal vital-inertial nexus has been found. The correspondence of tone and overtone, cause and effect has revealed a class of new phenomena for study. The fact that each overtone dance is material specific offers a fresh anomaly to baffle the academicians.

It is impossible to have predicted that different materials (placed in the same ground) would produce such different tone-signatures. It is only through empirical activity with an opened and subjective attitude which allows such discovery. Each probe sample is found to give its own range and kind of overtone content. There should he no difference in tonal content regardless of the kind of probe used. The only expectable difference would be the one which controls “signal volume” and that would be the result of variations in probe resistance.

If the tones were mere result of electrochemical reactions between the probes and the ground we would not expect the audible differences among such tonalities. There are several reasons why can eliminate the possibility that these sounds are developed through the electrochemical “frying” or “frizzling” of the probe surface areas (in ground contact). According to convention we would have to accept the view that different materials are capable of sudden conductivities “because of electrolytic action in the ground”. They would argue that the specific electrochemical reactions of a material in soil would produce specific “sizzling” and “frizzling” sounds in the monitor, as each chemical reaction differs from the next. If I showed them that ungrounded metals (merely placed in acid cups or in elevated pots of soil) would never produce these recorded sounds — could they then believe? Inertialistic understanding relies on effects. Where no effects exist they conclude that no cause exists. The conductivity of any material alone could never allow such sudden (and markedly different) tonal appearances of overtone groups with different probe materials. The sheer volume of sound received is in no way corroborated with the relatively unreacted face of the metals after their short spell in the ground. In addition, I have received just as powerful and as variegated tones through glassy substances which do not react with the soil in an electrochemical manner.

Each material used gives a different “overtone song” only when buried in the ground. Emplacement in acid, water, or pots of soil does not produce the sounds. Aerial elevation of the materials has not yet produced the sheer volume of sounds received unless the human organism (or any living organism) is present near the receiving device. According to the conventionalists, no difference of signals between different materials should have been monitored at all in any of these experiments. The surface area of receivers does not increase the overtone volume levels or their content. These experiments answers those who speak of electrolytic reactions with regard to our research. I buried a group of separate carbon rods and interlinked them with wire. I fully expected these to provide me with ten times the output sound and signal (since I used ten rods and was provided with ten times the electrolytic surface area). They did not offer an appreciably louder signal. Neither did the overtone song alter. Anomaly again.

It is significant that tone-signatures do offer very different “dancing” overtone signals. The astounding feature of all these recordings is that (over the several tracks made) the probes were in the very same ground spot in the very same hour. Groups of these samples were made in this manner. It would be difficult to comprehend how the great variety of signal-forms could otherwise be generated. Out of the very same ground come different tone-signatures . . . the result of different materials placed therein.

The significant overtone songs which differ from sample to sample cannot be the mere result of locale or time. One cannot say that “suddenly” there were “teletype signals” or the like within a sounding. Each one is possessed of its own characteristic overtone song which remains fixed for that sample. Exposure to ground-rays activates these releases. If some local effect of electrical leakage [whether into or out of the recording system] were to blame for these species of sounds, we would expect only variations in amplitude and a constant sound in each sample. This would follow the conventional explanation where varied resistances of the probe would effect changes in volume of a constant tone-signature. This is not what we have discovered however: with each material there is a special and distinct earth tone signature. These sounds are only activated through contact with the ground itself. When they are elevated above the ground they do not emanate any tone-signatures which can be detected. This is evident in the recorded material of M. Theroux as well as among my own recordings.

THE MASTER TONE-SIGNATURE

The sounds of 60-cycle A. C. offer a background “dull hum”. We may hear the sudden dull sound (“dmmm”) of local appliances turning on and off in the neighborhood in certain samples. Their entrance and exit do not alter the fixed tone-signatures of each material. The presence of 60-cycle induction cannot he ignored. Yet, we have found these levels to be so easily recognized that we (initially) made our discoveries in spite of their slight presence. The 60-cycle “hum” and all its harmonics (low or high) are all of the same tonal variety: a “dark” humming sound.

The enormous volume of living background noise is problematic for most analysts whose biopathic reaction to these tones is both characteristic and predictable. These individuals will tend to focus their attentions upon the merely inertialistic pressures resultant from the primary generative energy. Studying the effects which are manufactured by primary cause is the inertialist’s scientific specialty: they know the effects very well. Unfortunately the mere knowing, describing, and predicting of effects does not reciprocate or translate into “life”. When we eliminate the 60-cycle hums and their harmonics from these tracks we find a preeminent signal permeating all of the tone-signatures: the master tone-signature.

This is an ever-present tone-signature which we cannot ignore or misinterpret. I believe this tone signature may vary with locale, by which we may also map and chart regions in a new awareness. The greater portion of this signal (which buzzes and rattles with such enormous throbbing power) is not the result of human technology. Isolating this signature of the ground from the sample tones is impossible. Simple adjustments with the graphic equalizer can eliminate the effects of inductive leakage but cannot block the signature-overtones of a material.

The generative power of earth sounds is enormous. They apparently remain potential (silent) until given a material into which they may flow. This flow is specific and distinct for each material-probe buried in the ground, evidenced in the specific overtones which are discharged. Furthermore, the overtone songs are not easily isolated and amplified through the ordinary means of graphic equalization. Their ephemeral and-permeating presence is heard “across the full spectrum”. One may eliminate any frequency band and yet find the shadow of the overtone dance present. This persistent feature is truly anomalous. The overtones ride above the master tone-signature in a distinctive dance pattern through which materials may be identified. They offer a spatially disposed behavior when heard. This is why headphones are an imperative when listening.

Electrical appliances (locally used) do not cause the sharp and irregularly syncopated impulses which are heard throughout the recordings. There are “racers” amid these constant throbs whose independent and separate rhythms permeate the background noise. The “racers” are characterized by a great variation of separate and continual rhythmic speeds: these cannot be the result of 60-cycle leakages or the use of local appliances.

Interference from powerlines, ground connections, radio stations, telephone cables, “military signals”: these are not the overtones upon which we are focusing our attentions and discussion. When all the effects of such “electrical poisons” are filtered the sound volume is still enormous. Induction and leakage would produce the very same sounds in all samples. The only audible difference would be contained to differences in output volume: the result of variations in conductivity. Tone-signatures are element-specific and possessed of overtone features which are found throughout the collection of elements.

EXPERIENCING TONE-SIGNATURES

This new field of tone-signatures is a door into the future. It provides us with accessible vision into the otherwise unknown subterranean earth. The constancy of empathic activity in matter requires no “measurement” by those who are sensitive to their activity. The human organism does not natively require transformations from rayic to electrical effects in order to “validate” the existence of anomalous energies: we are fully capable of directly detecting them with our deepest senses. It is merely academic conditioning which “disallows” the existence of activities which each of us can plainly discern. The divergence between academic measurement and radionic experience defines the schism between our factions.

PLEASE USE HEADPHONES WHEN MONITORING OVERTONE SIGNALS OR RECORDINGS!

There are enough of the various samples placed on the sample cassette so that the student may apply whatever lab-diagnostic techniques (overtone analysis, graphic equalizers and filters, oscilloscopes, etc.) required. The full appreciation of these overtones is experiential. Lab techniques may not reveal what the human organism alone senses and experiences. Lab tools can never impart or partake of meanings, which is the human providence.

The delicate nuances of tone-signatures can be transmitted through cassette tape, but requires headphones in order to detect the subtleties of overtone movements. These overtones are heard at the very peaks of our audible range. They ring, whistle, and warble with specific patterns which depend on the matter from which they were derived. The spontaneous stereo phasing of the overtones is a thing to be felt and enjoyed. It is my sincere hope that you will spend enough time with each sample to experience the significant and marvelous motions for yourself. It is my deepest desire in these regards that you each experience these tone-signatures and relinquish the “diagnostics of doubt” which separate from you direct experience.

Listen to each sound and savor the overtone motion which rides the background noise. Listen “above” the master tone-signature. Eliminating the soft 60-cycle harmonics is relatively easy. The resultant throbbing undulations of the ground will not be easily suppressed without the graphic equalizer on your stereo. You will be amaze to hear the “overtone song” which is the essential tone-signature of each sample. It does not vary considerably with graphic equalization.

Focus your attentions on the overtones which you hear “riding above” the other sounds. You will find that these will touch you… at the chest, neck, and facial areas. This represents the empathic signal which enters the ganglier sensors of your body directly. Do not be surprised at this phenomenon. Listen to the “warbling” overtones of each sample: they are each different and constant for each sample.

Listen and absorb the track where I have “balanced” iron against carbon. The experience of this combination is like being physically connected with as powerful an earth battery as that which Anton Mesmer constructed! Let yourself feel its powerful energy moving through your body from right to left.

The background noise is not the important feature here. Allow your awareness to focus only upon the warbling overtones which ride above the other sounds. Examine every warble with your whole being. Learn to depend on your senses again. Experience. Stop demanding the analytic tools which separate you from direct sensation and meaning. It is the doubt concerning radionic reality which forces humanity into inertial observation. Stop doubting and know.

Dan Winter is a very dear friend of mine for whom I have extreme admiration and respect as a researcher (stunningly successful work on Dirac Waves, Moray diodes, C.E.S. devices, and bibliomancy). In the course of our long-time association we discussed the many features of ground energies. It was he who first suggested that I try slowing the speeds of these ground tone recordings down through successive steps. When I engaged this procedure I was absolutely astounded to discover an unsuspected world.

By recording at the very highest speed, and then successively fragmenting the tracks, I was able to produce ever slower versions of the original. In several instances I used the method of recording at highest speeds (19 ips) to make the original master copies. I then re-recorded each track at successively slower speeds (1/2 master speed for each deceleration). The result is an astonishing succession of ever-decelerated playbacks. I finally reached 1/32 master speed with the gradual approach of distortion entering this last step. The disappearance of lowest audible pitch with slower speeds is only made more mysterious by the sudden appearance of nearly ultrasonic pitches. A pitch which measures a clear 10 KHz pitch at these speeds must be an original 32 x 10KHz or 320KHz: a true mystery!

Each harmonic drops down (from inaudibly high registers) “into view” when the tracks are slowed to this degree. Each such harmonic must therefore have originally been nearly ultrasonic in pitch. I would never have suspected their existence in the tone-signatures made were it not for the successive decelerations of the major tone-signatures. But these recording machines of mine are not supposed to be capable of responding to such extreme tones. Furthermore, a definite mystery persists throughout my 1/32nd speed recordings.

It has been suggested (by conventionalists) that the background noises and rhythmicities are man-made, the mere result of local appliance use. If these sounds were the result of ground leakages, then I would expect silver to receive more of the signals than others (including vacuum). This in fact is not what has been discovered. I find it very difficult to believe that any appliance is capable of emitting the “…8-PAUSE-PAUSE-8…” rhythms which carbon so dramatically emits. In addition, the overtone discharges are not the same from sample to sample. Each element emits a different overtone pattern. Some overtones dance with a specific rhythmical emphasis. There is no precedent (to my knowledge) for these tone-signatures.

These radionic tone-signatures are capable of remaining in the magnetic recording medium (magnetic tape) in a permanent manner. If all these manifestations were the simple result of induction, electrolytic “battery action”, or varying degrees of “conductivity” there would be no tone-signatures. The fact that these tones are radionically charged is quite enlightening, offering us the privilege of discovering and experiencing new worlds. There are sudden emissions which spontaneously release very sharp “pings” of exceptionally short duration. Not all materials do this. Amethyst, sphaelerite, pyrite, and galena seem to evince these sudden sharp tone emissions. M Theroux discovered these in enormous volumes out West. I see these mineral tones as being akin to forced radioactivity under the impact of the ground-ray (see works by G. Le Bon).

With the graphic equalizer alone it is impossible to isolate the overtones. They are mysteriously a part of the “whole signal” and “dance” among the major tones heard per sample. You must listen to these by directing your attention to the very highest sounds heard “between” the headphones. You cannot isolate or eliminate the overtone dance with the graphic equalizer.

None of the mineral samples were touched or handled during the sampling period. None of the other samples were handled with the exception of the hand-held coil. The crackling sounds you hear are their natural outputs. In addition, all the single wire lines were carefully insulated and avoided; no motion took place in the laboratory. The absence of automobile traffic makes the constant crackling noises more suspect of anomalous source.

Allow your attention to he drawn into the overtone dance: these contain the empathic signals. They seem to hover above and upon all the other sounds. Each overtone “dance” differs from substance to substance. Through them we become empathically entuned with the aura of each sample, savoring their essence directly. Through such a means we may (personally and intimately) experience the minerals and metals in a way never before possible by knowledge alone. Extending these experiences into the tone-signatures of stars and planets is my next experiment. Then comes tele-empathic research: the development of technology through which we may experience distant communications of an experiential variety.

The complexity of the sounds are difficult to specifically analyse, and must be heard, rather than described. The tape is made for purposes of subjective analysis and study. Remember that none of these recordings were made with any kind of “tuning” in the regular (radio) sense. The only tuners were the potentiometers of the Yamaha recording console; and these had an appreciable effect on the tonal varieties throughout the recording and the playback! Potentiometers act as radionic tuners, and represent the use of crystalline carbon as an organic detector. This is not surprising, considering the affinity of earth tones energy for carbon.

I have purposely made the recordings long enough so that students can sample enough of the soundscape to familiarize themselves with the long-time transients which roll and flutter through minutes of time. The most unsuspecting “buzzing” contained such a vast degree of tonal complacity that most researchers have simply discarded these sounds. Certain steady pulsations (too deep to hear) can actually be tracked while watching V.U. meters. The great varieties of overtones is a surprising experience. The new student of these wonderful radionic phenomena will derive great discoveries from these modest beginnings. The pulsations from the pickup or the ground-rod system are remarkable. I provided one minute of each sound sample for the listener. No doubt, there are other ground arrays and “ground-organic” configurations which must be sampled for their additional overtone content.

One may use the samples for subjective {empathic) analysis, or for use in conjunction with radionic tuners. In the case of either, the rationale of offering long samples is to allow sufficient time with any specific sounding to perform needed empirical adjustments and diagnosis. The sounds give a definite sensation throughout the space they are listened in. The foremost fact to remember concerning our ground recordings is that these signals are musical overtones. Be amazed and be opened. Let the sounds move your thoughts where they will. I assure you that you will experience far more than you yet realize through discussion alone. Determine the ray-lines which pierce and penetrate your neighborhood. These sounds should help reveal these ray-lines: by travelling into them and activating some of their potentials. Such an experimentation will lead to breakthroughs in our ability to extract naturally occurring non-electrical energy from the deep strata in the ground. Such energy interactions will (with new materials and new tuners) permit the local release of light, heat, cold, motoring, therapeutics, astral travel, teleportations, transvision, direct-coupled learning, and all the potential future needs of humanity which are indeed generating and surging… within the ground.

Earth Tones

EARTH TONES by Gerry Vassilatos and Michael Theroux is an audio experience which takes the listener on an incredible adventure through the curious sounds of the earth and into the very realm of vital Telluric energies.

“On side one, Gerry Vassilatos demonstrates that different substances buried in the earth have very different tone signatures. The striking harmonic differences recorded between substances such as Iron, Copper, Zinc, Silver, Galena, Sphaelerite, Amethyst, Pyrite, including the tones of vacuum tubes and magnetic pickups when placed in the ground, provides us with accessible vision into the otherwise unknown subterranean earth.

“On side two, Michael Theroux demonstrates – through the use of a dipolar ground rod system – that the earth is alive with vital currents of energy. ‘Pings and Pops’ plus the demonstration of the ‘Vitic roar’ can be heard along with the remarkable recording of two earthquake events!

“After the initiatory experience of hearing these sounds, no one will be able to deny the existence of the vital energies unleashed from the earth.”

[Though the tape is not listed in our catalogue, we have a limited supply of cassette tape copies available to borderland researchers. If you are interested in acquiring a cassette tape of the recordings of Vassilatos and Theroux for further review, contact us for more information.]

Article by Gerry Vassilatos — from Journal of Borderland Research (Vol. 48, No. 6, Nov.-Dec. 1992)

ABSTRACT

Materials which have been buried in the ground emit audible signals. These may be monitored and recorded through conventional audio equipment. With mild amplification an unsuspected world of sounds is discovered. Each material is found to release its own specific “tone-signature”, and can be identified from other materials through specific (warbling) overtones. Discussion concerning the characteristic of a primary (and indispensable) ground power follows a detailed description of the experimental arrangements by which such tone-signatures have been recorded. The “master tone-signature” of the ground is an everpresent feature in each sample and represents the generative power of the earth. An audio cassette of these tone-signatures is offered for diagnostic purposes along with a brochure.

BACKGROUND

I conducted several series of experiments (last April) in order to learn whether free electrical energies could be derived from the ground. Michael Theroux had been conducting similar (but distinct and dramatic) experiments in California at roughly the same time. Mr. Theroux suggested that I try recording the sounds I had been monitoring. This began a succession of cooperative researches between ourselves. We began encouraging each other and compared our findings with great regularity across the continent by telephone. We each found different results with the employment of different equipment. Each series of recordings made by us offers distinctive revelations of a singular primary energy found in the earth beneath.

Mr. Theroux has published his excellent and remarkable findings in a previous issue of this Journal. His excellent series of experiments and historic recordings include the capturing of two earthquake events! In addition, Mr. Theroux has monitored the “thunder waves” emanated through the human body (as receiver) when the same is part of a Vitic Battery circuit. In all of his researches the successive cascades of sounds becomes extremely evident. Whether as very abrupt “ping” sounds or as a thunderous roar, his findings corroborate the fact that spontaneous energies are entering our experiential realm as successions of power.

Since that time several well-qualified investigators (Dan Winter and Leroy Chambers) have been studying the recordings made with our various buried probes and systems. Unexpected features have manifested their presence throughout these studies. Future articles from each contributor will faithfully report the various new details which have emerged since this time. CAUTION! NEVER ATTEMPT THESE EXPERIMENTS DURING STORM CONDITIONS!

MAGNETIC PICKUPS AS TONE-DETECTORS

In the course of designing, building, and utilizing several magnetic percussion instruments (1985), I had developed a design for making very large magnetic pickups. These were made to receive the vibrations of “struck” steel objects: chimes, discs, ribbons, and sheets. The thundering and ringing sounds produced by these objects in the presence of a magnetic field exceed their acoustic signals. I have used these in obtaining “ultra low” percussive sounds for certain special musical compositions. It was with one such pickup assembly that I accidentally recognized the presence of shrill and spontaneous “noise”. It occurred to me that this noise was a possible free-energy source. I decided to examine the characteristics of sounds spontaneously produced in the pickup.

My design for the pickups is simple. I used a 2×4 as the mounting surface for my 16 ceramic magnets (permanent). They each measure roughly 3 x 1 x ¼ inch in size; and are applied with epoxy to the thin edge of the mounting. I alternated the polarity of each adjacent magnet (north-south-north…) for purposes of my own. To the ends of this array I drilled and twisted simple machine screws, surmounted by very wide iron washers (3 inches diam.). It is around these end pieces (and over the faces of the magnets) that I wound several hundred turns of very thin telephone wire. These windings were terminated and soldered to a phone jack outlet (which was also glued to the board edge.)

Free standing magnetic pickup (view facing into ground-ray)

The experimental setup required the isolation of the large magnetic pickup from stray induction fields (60 cycle). For this reason, I stood the pickup upright behind a stone wall (1 foot thickness) in my cellar (6 feet below ground level). The pickup was allowed to stand in contact with the ground and the wall at a slight lean-angle. I tapped the output of the pickup with an ordinary phone jack coaxial cord (20 feet). This was then plugged into a Yamaha mixing console (line level input). The tone settings were all placed at maximum level in order to receive every possible tone.

The headphones alone did not detect any audible volume (as is the case with the “whistlers” detected by Barkhausen). My disappointment required some reflection. I thought of using transformers as did Rossetti (early telephonics) and Stubblefield (earth communications); but with the mild amplification of my mixing console these strange spontaneous sounds could be raised to audible monitoring levels.

The tonal activity of such a large magnetic pickup is very shrill and ear-splitting with mild amplification I began to focus my attentions on the activities of tone and pitch taken from the magnets. These sounds are penetrating when the high-tone setting is boosted and the instrument is properly aligned. I discovered that careful attention to the ground orientation of the apparatus was the key in receiving more powerful signals. Ground alignment and placement were an especially important and intriguing aspect of Old Wireless systems.

The input signals were excessively “hot”. The sizzling and ringing sound proved to be too much for the ears. I found a surprising shrill quality which required constant attention. Fear that the channel would actually burn out was my greatest concern; warranting the lowering of the attenuators to very safe levels. A small amount of amplification brings out the shrill characteristic of sounds spontaneously emitted by the pickup. I recorded several hundred feet of tape with the pickup so positioned behind the stonewall. I was amazed by the overtones which “swung wildly” among the other received noises. It was the high overtones which fixed my interest; these would be pivotal in my discovery later on.

While the background noise was fairly powerful and constant, I found the shifting overtones at the very “peaks” of the background noise. These overtones executing a defined “warbling” pattern which mutually differs among materials.

Old wireless systems resonated considerably with ground energies, much more than with the “aerial waves” they were presumed to export through space; Tesla repeatedly insisted on this fact. They were in fact modulators of a ground energy which was their principle means of signalling. The anomalous reception of signals by the old method exceeds calculated signal strengths by factors of 4 or 5 when examined. Preston Nichols had mentioned these pertinent facts in a lecture which he conducted in 1984. The significant portion of the signals which Marconi claimed to have received in Poldhu could not have been Hertzian in nature. While some are content in citing longitudinal electrical pulsations as the true signal, I have pursued a different view which I feel has far-reaching ramifications. I believe that auric energies of a living nature are responsible for such communications. Ultimately we must develop technologies which utilize these energies alone.

The shrill spontaneous activity of magnetic pickups is evidence that power of a primary nature is indeed present throughout the ground. Much of the later radio engineers dealt with ways and means by which such “static” could be eliminated! It is possible to discover designs by which we may actually derive power from special earthed receivers. That energies can be harnessed by the proper design, alignment, and tuning of magnetic pickups (or material probes) is historically supported. The work of Nathan Stubblefield, Lester Hendershot, Hans Coler, and Harry Periggo can be better appreciated from this perspective. In addition, the reconstruction of their work can be approached with deliberate progress when certain distinguishing facts show their work to have little association with mere electricity.

What I find so impressive and distinct is the fact that such a free-standing magnetic array could continuously receive tonal signals from the ground. Stubblefield, Murgas, Tesla, and Rogers had done the same before us. The directionality of the system was further proof that the arrangement was tied to geology: responding with ground energies alone. My receiver worked best when aligned with a ground ray-line (which I had dowsed and used for numerous other experiments through the years). Mr. Theroux recorded the same kinds of findings with ground ray-lines. According to the conventional analysis, the magnetic pickup array is so highly inductive that it cannot be receiving radio signals above the audio range. The magnets used in the pickup are not ferrites. What then is the source of the audio levels we receive? The rattling (“helicopter”) and throbbing sounds (received and recorded when the human body approaches the coil) are not radio signals. These rattling sounds only appear when living organisms are sampled.

ORGANISM AND OVERTONE

Living organisms were found fully capable of actually intensifying (amplifying) and augmenting the normally received signal. The energies engaged are thus accumulated in the living presence: auric energy. Whether from trees or humans the significant observation is that these ground tones are all principally located within our own audio range, representing an accessibility which implies many forgotten human potentials. The true and intended cooperative function of both the ground power and the human organism remains a dormant gift in most persons. It remains a sleeping and suppressed dragon among the obsolescent technologies of the world. Sing into the woods and feel the power in response. Read the several books written about Vril energy.

Holding the pickup to my body (along the vertical axis which connects face, throat, heart, thorax) I heard the dramatic appearance of very strong “howlers”. These howlers modulated very much with body position in relation with the ground ray-line. An additional variation appeared when the pressure (with which the insulated coil was held) in proximity with the body was altered: a primitive auric tuning mechanism was realized. This signature was different in its content of overtones when compared with the signature taken from the free-standing coil.

There are highly rhythmical pitched elements in this signature; whose tempo increase and relax over long time intervals. There are sudden “bursters” whose sound is rather like strong gusts of air. These were especially powerful when I had gripped the coil with both hands. I felt each burst in my thorax as I was recording the sounds with the headphones on.

The magnetic pickup can potentially act as a transformer when responding to local electromagnetic fluctuations. This is not sufficient proof however that these received energies are originally “electrical” when in the geo-radionic environment. Magnetic transducers simultaneously respond to hosts of diverse energies. That we are traditionally trained to wrap coils around magnets (in order to “obtain responses” from them) indicates the degree to which our ignorant conventional habits have overcome our intuitive vision. The magnet needs no “extra” material or power for it to operate in its native (rayic) resonance; sensitives have long known this. Other (non-electrical) energy enters the system which is more radionic than electrical.

The electrically amplified outputs of magnetic pickups are the coil-manufactured responses to the presence of a primary ground activity (which I have strong reasons to believe is rayic in character). Entering the sides of magnets, this rayic energy is measured as modulations in the aetheric flow of the magnetic field.

The use of the “pickup” coil (helix) must be carefully comprehended, not from the electrical but from the radionic viewpoint. The need to translate primary ray energy into “electric and electrical” potentials is an embarrassing impasse for vitalists. We are seeking newer kinds of experience with living signals while using its electrical side-effects! Our situation can be ameliorated with the proper knowledge and design which must come to use the direct rayic energy alone. While these systems “look” inactive they actually are operating in modes which exceed the ordinary human ability to perceive. A simple example of proof is that the unamplified pickup appears “dead” when externally observed through the 5 senses, yet it is very active!

There are those persons who directly sense the primary energy and work with its power with special non-powered apparatus. An essential output of magnets which I have described elsewhere are the black rays (which are collimated at the sides of permanent magnets). These black rays permeate our world at the most fundamental levels of experience. They are responsible for the numerous other energetic manifestations which we identify throughout the environment.

TONE-SIGNATURES OF PLANTS

Tree root probe

I have a belief that all material things share various degrees and resonances of Space Consciousness. Each material also permutes this consciousness in specific ways. There have been distinguished individuals whose work indicates that even metals and stones are “aware” (C. Bose). Others have also shown that such materials emanate peculiar overtones whose content – seems intelligent (O. Pixley).

Tesla repeatedly stated that earth signals and planetary signals were imbued with “an intelligence”. Critics reviled his claims from every academic direction; stating that pulsating signals were not ample evidence of intelligent transmissions among the planets Tesla calmly emphasized that the use of interplanetary Morse Code was not that to which he was referring: the “intelligence” was implicit in the overtones received and experienced!

Such synaesthesic signals (such empathically active signals) would later be used by T. G. Hieronymus, R. Drown, and G. W. de la Warr to register life-form readings on other planets, take radionic photographs of specific organs and systems, and charge light-beams with thought-forms. None of these energetic manifestations register on inertial meters; being the experiential energies of the universe through which meaning is transacted to us. Measuring systems can respond to pressures… but cannot savor meanings or respond to that inherent presence which gives us meaning. Meaning and consciousness are eternally admixed and are received by sensitive, sentient beings alone. Therefore there is a vast gulf between the inertialist and the vitalist.

Artist, researcher, and colleague Duncan Laurie, shared several examples where the sounds of a living vine were translated through special sensing apparatus (designed by M. Bradshaw). I was fortunate enough to hear these signals one night last winter. These sounds were so vibrant, pulsating, and thrilling that I attempted a similar experiment in order to share the recorded sounds. Mr. Laurie mentioned in numerous instances the strong connections between the sounds and musical compositions with which I have been involved.

I use a very simple arrangement to study tree sounds. This involves driving a very thin iron rod a short distance into the sandy soil surrounding the roots of any tree. The recordings I made used a tall Linden tree. I was amazed at the numerous results. The sudden transients received through tree-probes are truly wonderful. One finds the persistent “rattle” of the tree-signals a very intriguing feature: messages of unknown and primitive language. There are sudden and powerful bursts which come through the tree as asymmetric undulations: like cascades and avalanches. Though cyclic and approximately regular, there is no clock-like rhythm with these throbbing pulses of life. A thoroughly fascinating account of another such recording system used with plants may be studied in the film “The Secret Life of Plants” (P. Tompkins). The sounds recorded corroborate our claims.

There are very significant overtones present when sampling trees. The amazing thing is that tree sounds resemble signals taken from a pure (isolated) carbon rod. In this recording I witnessed the masking of the iron probe signal by the “carbon” signal of the tree! When comparing the recorded sound of tree roots with those made with pure carbon I was astounded to find a nearly complete match. The important fact to realize here is that the probe was not carbon; the probe was iron. The iron tone-signature was overshadowed by the carbon presence of the tree and the evidence is audible.

In addition the tree carbon and the pure carbon (though very nearly similar) are not an exact match – they are isotonic! This implies the presence of “new” radionic elements. Such masking, shadowing, and unexpected tonal appearance is explained through radionic admixture and permutation; the aura of iron and carbon blend to produce (radionically discerned) new transient elements. We must learn more about radionic permutations and how they differ from the (inertial) formation of chemical compounds.

The most intriguing feature of signals obtained through living organisms is the dramatic appearance of powerful “helicopter” rattles in the lower pitched region. These penetrating rattles are always present when sampling living organisms. They are present in the “Vitic” recordings of Mr. Theroux. Sudden aerial energetic “bursters” are detected when sampling trees. These bursters are heard through samples made with the human body (though at lower power levels). Were these “bursters” the result of aerial electrical discharges of tree branches into the surrounding air they would come through the headsets as an ever-sharpening “buzz” which finalizes into a “snap”. They do not.

The very essence of a substance seems to be the very kind of sound it will emanate. Sounds emanating from tree-roots are “soft” in their empathic activities. One senses spontaneous “excursions of consciousness” while listening to these tree sounds. These send our thoughts into sudden indeterminate portions of space: the very thing we generally feel when looking up through trees. The rayic communion of trees with distant reaches in outer space has been investigated by other excellent researchers (T. G. Hieronymus, G. Lawrence, B. Payne).

THE THROBBING GROUND

Audible undulations of power shows how the ground-generator surges constantly in trees and plants. The thrombic nature of these strange energies occurs throughout the recordings of Mr. Theroux and my own, indicating the living potential of the ground itself. The throbbing life-potential permeates the tone-signatures of buried materials (metals, minerals, tubes, plants). In these recordings there are episodes where the V.U. meters on the play-back system will throb with apparently no audible change or difference. Certain other rhythmical components occur too rapidly for the eye or the ear to discern them. This is where the diagnostic tool of tape manipulation enters the picture: slowing down the sample reveals significant and surprising new overtone features.

ELEMENTAL GROUND RODS

Ground rods

Near certain radionic devices one senses an inaudible pressure effect on the ears. This may olden be accompanied by an extremely high pitched sounds “in the head”. When radionic devices are grounded these rayo-aetheric effects are enormously empowered: we receive these sounds (albeit at higher pitch ranges) directly through our bodies without need for the audio translators.

A significant portion of my experimental setups with ground rods were conducted the same week in April. These were driven into various portions of the land surrounding my home: in dark-green spots of the (moist) lawn, (on several opposite sides of the property) and into dry ground as well. Both short and long wires were used as lead lines. Neither short or long lead-lines revealed any appreciably altering effect on the incoming signals as registered. Recordings were made with monopolar connection: single-wire recordings through the central line of the cable. I have taken care to isolate these probes iron all other nearby influences. This remarkable feature was discovered: that monopolar connection suffices in registering the ground tones. The best example of shielded and isolated recordings is found in Theroux’s research; all of his recordings were made miles tram local powerlines.

I utilized at least 4 distinct places around my property for these investigations. All the ground rods (whether iron or carbon) were of identical diameter and penetration. Plates were each (mutually) the same (8 in. x 1 in.). I used several metal ore and mineral samples in order to assess the relative differences between pure elements and their ores. I also used an ordinary vacuum tube (supposedly a radionic “insulator”) and a pyrex test tube probe which was filled with MnO (Manganese Oxide) powder. Probes were driven into ground to about 6 inches of depth: a minimal arrangement.

I began with an iron ground-rod set up and progressed through a series of other materials. This iron rod was driven into a very vitalized section of lawn. This section of lawn was more dark green than any other piece of the lawn. I considered that the possible radionic activity here would be far greater than in dry soil. The association of iron with the human organism is an undisputed fact: iron is a resonance through which living energy is communicating throughout the universe, its sharply stinging emanations discharge living energy, plants are dark green and intensely vibrant when growing near iron fences, blood is especially rich in iron.

The tone-signature of the iron rod was surprisingly “metallic” though weak, having a prolific assortment of high impact tones which were reminiscent of the magnetic pickup. The lack of power in the iron rod disappointed me at first, thinking it to be the most powerful auric receiver. It was not the humanly potent haemic (blood) resonance of iron which proved to prevail with respect to power. Such an unsuspected presence of sound (in earthed materials) is a new revolution in radionic science: a true breakthrough in our understanding of earth energies.

I followed the iron sample with a carbon rod. Carbon is the key life-resonance. The most powerful tone-signature I have yet re- corded came through isolated carbon rods. The warbling and throbbing overtones of carbon is so strikingly different that I had to reduce the channel attenuator and tone controls significantly. This anomalous intensity of grounded carbon as a signal source cannot be assessed through conventional means: carbon is supposed to be the weaker conductor, the less electrolytically reactive in soil.

The sensation when listening to the carbon rods (in various configurations) is never without surprises. Most significant is the fact that iron (the better “electrical conductor”) does not yield a stronger signal than the carbon rod (a supposedly “poor electrical conductor”). Carbon greatly exceeds the signal strength of iron in both power and overtone content.

Other metals were also buried and sounded (silver, zinc, copper). Each produced an amazingly different tone-signature. Listen to the overtones at the very highest portions of your audio range. They will “dance” and warble in specific patterns between your headsets. YOU MUST USE HEADSETS or the overtones will not be successfully appreciated. Though present in playbacks through loudspeakers these overtones are significantly modified by room dimensions and other (startling) features of the geo-radionic environment. They consequently may not successfully be heard in their full power. In addition, the overtones execute “phase-sweeps” (of an anomalous nature) which cannot heard except through headphones.

Each metal displays a specific kind of overtone “dance”. Metal probes yield a “metallic” audio signal characteristic of their true essence. The silver test took advantage of a gloriously full moon. I believed that some significant correspondence would be discovered with this arrangement, and was dutifully rewarded. Subsequent tests made during other lunar phases proved to reveal the curious absence of the high pitched “darting” overtones which were very prevalent during the full moon. Can it be that the pleasing tones which emanate from certain metals (silver, gold, platinum, iridium, palladium, etc.) actually attract human curiosity and interest? Could it be that these tones are the emanations which we perceive inwardly (insensate perception) producing possessive desires? Could radionic tones make these particular metals “valuable”? You may listen to these on the cassette to your own satisfaction with headphones. Silver had the most pleasing overtone warble of all the metals I sampled, being a rhythmical undulation which fascinates the mind.

MINERAL TONES

Mineral probe

The next experiments tested the tone-signatures of mineral samples: amethyst, sphaelerite, pyrite, galena. The mineral ores (though probed into the same hole during the very same hour) each took time to reach their maximum volume. Each eventually gave their characteristic tone-signatures with constancy and regularity. I found that the recordings made with mineral samples greatly resembles the tones registered by Michael Theroux in California. Minerals seem (without question) to be the best transducers of these specific metallic “cracking, crishing, and pinging” sounds. These minerals are in tune with a very distinct resonance which metals and organic materials do not release.

The metallic snaps and “pinging” barrages actually seem to be evidence of a strange natural radioactivity (G. Le Bon) whose essence is vitalistic rather than inertialistic. Their gradual surging and pulsating nature may help clarify statements made by T. H. Moray (germanium materials) in Utah. The energy heard in the “pings and pangs” recorded by M. Theroux is enormous enough to cause a resonant ring in his apparatus. This is clearly heard on the cassette. I believe it to be the result of resonances effected within the semi-conductors of his recording apparatus: a real link with the mysterious diode of Moray.

Galena has an overtone dance which bounces back and forth in fairly sharp patterns. I thought I was at first deceived into hearing these effects… until I slowed them down to ½ speed. The 2-note warble was still there! The strangest thing occurred when I continued to process that sample at ever slow speeds: the very same overtones were yet there warbling back and forth in their original pitches! Such maintenance of pitch in spite of speed change tells of some “self-righting” process through which persistence of identity is maintained throughout the space of a material. While we may speak volumes on the evidence of crystallographic emanations versus the “inertial ash” of matter, we should direct our minds toward the technological implications of such a phenomenon. I had deciphered this anomaly with some success, seeing that through it there was great promise and vast possibility for the extraction of energy from the ground.

The overtones seem to “rest upon” the peaks of other tones. These overtones ride on the other energies to a set pattern. The tone-peaks discharge the overtones into space spontaneously. These tonal peaks can be urged to discharge their “overtone song” when we entune specific resonances for each material. In other words, the total overtone output of each material can be made to flow into the resonant windows specific to any material. Energies which contribute to the release of overtones can be urged into specifically tuned “windows” FROM THE RECEIVING END. There are materials which can produce prolific amounts of such energy from the universal tone-signature.

The sphaelerite (zinc ore) sample strongly resembled the overtone dance of the pure zinc plate (isotonic materials have surprising over-tone features which indicate another kind of periodic table). These overtones did not undulate in a rapid manner as did the galena. Through this sounding I realized the possibility of using this audio method to identify materials. The remarkable eloptic detector of Dr. T. G. Hieronymus used refractile light-like energies to identify each element and material given him.

Amethyst probe

Amethyst (a glass) was placed with the crystal points down into the ground (base up). The strong and deep violet aura of amethyst was immediately sensed in playing the tape back! What I have also found is that each material transduces powerful insensate energies which are revealed to us as the qualities associated with the material during playback. The color, mood, “feel” and “sense” of amethyst was strongly radiated from the headset: an empathic transmission of extraordinary permeations. I felt these sensations from the top of the head and down (across) the face… particularly around the nasal area. The tone-signature of amethyst contains a special overtone Warbler which oscillates around a tri-tone.

The minerals seem to be “made for the ground”: there is a mysterious purpose for them to be where we first find them. They function in the ground system and should be re-investigated in situ. Removing these component materials “en masse” from the earth has frightful consequences unless counteracted. Their function for humanity’s needs seems inestimably vast. To realize that metal lodes operate as components of a vast vitalistic circuitry within the ground (functioning on behalf of our consciousness) seems closest to the truth. Perhaps these materials (once having been taken from their parent ground) have entered an “hysterical phase” which requires re-burial in order for re-activation to take place. Perhaps this is part of the lengthy process which they require before releasing their total tone-signature. I have observed that minerals yield their energetic outputs only with time. Therefore it may be wise to allow samples to “soak” in the ground for hours. Who knows what new species of sound may then emerge?

The tone-signature found with each ore was as significant and astounding as all the other sounds received. I did not expect that minerals would yield such an enormous amount of sounds. Each of the mineral ore samples proved to give dramatic proof that materials of various compositions actually produce characteristic tone-signatures. Galena and pyrite proved to be very “hot” tone sources. The sphaelerite sample had slightly different qualities than the pure zinc plate with which I also probed the ground earlier; though both are isotonically related. The amethyst crystal was a good large sample which produced a surprisingly “active” sound, unusual for a material which is glassy. Apparently, the ground power has its own behavioral aspects which we are only beginning to discover. Glass and other electrical insulators are easily permeated by ground-power.

VACUUM TUBES

Vacuum tube probe

This exciting study so piqued my interest that I was led to try several other probe forms. I finally began an exotic series of tests which involved some unusual “probe rods”: inverted vacuum tubes, pyrex test tubes filled with chemical powders (manganese dioxide), a carbon rod wrapped with wire, groups of carbon rods in series. It was through this variety of samples that I made several corollary discoveries of merit. For the vacuum tube (as probe sample) I connected all the prongs together with the single lead-in wire, burying the tube. I left ¼ inch between the soil and the bakelite base. This probe (wired side “up”) was placed in a section of ground which lay among the loveliest trees on our property, directly amid the moist dark green lawn. The sounds so produced were absolutely amazing. They are very stark sounding, having an intense “drilling” type of buzz.

Carefully dried before implantation, each vacuum tube I tested produced a single group of (similar) tone-signatures. The indispensable ground seems to be summoning us toward greater demonstrations of true power. The presence of vacuum was always considered detrimental to the aura. Both (glassy) envelopes worked so powerfully that I then could say without doubt that these received energies were not at all “electric or electrical” in their primary manifestation. What kind of “tension” enters glass with such ease? Experiments made with shorting the elevated samples to ground proved that these energies could not have effected the resultant tone-signatures of the glassy envelopes were they electrostatic or electrodynamic in nature. The ground-energy is a permeating presence, requiring body contact before a reaction can build to maximum. The results caused me to think of experiments performed by T. H. Moray, whose ground-pointing (large germanium diode) tubes were capable of entuning voiced signals through great distances. (I was informed through a special source that these tubes had to “face the ground” in order for them to work; in addition there is a patent of directional vacuum tubes which F. McCullough patented to accomplish a similar marvel). The means whereby one can laterally, vertically, and longitudinally “scan” ground power-points regardless of distance, remains (for me) one of the most mysterious demonstrations of ground ray connectivity. By such means we may be able to locate individuals and the organic emanations of human activities. Apparently no loss of power is ever registered in the ground: it is a self-generative power.

CHEMICAL TONES

Test tube probe

Manganese dioxide was tested in a pyrex tube. When used in combination (with powdered iron and carbon) MnO2 powder proves to be a wonderful radionic “softening agent” for experiencing radionic energies. The use of iron plates alone produces a “hard” and painfully “twinging” response upon the human organism. The addition of powdered carbon (charcoal) helps in the ability of reducing this painful sting of the iron. But (by far) it is manganese dioxide which so “smooths” the radionic reactions that I have used it ever since discovering its wonderful characteristics. I have compounded a special mixture and have used this exclusively in my studies.

This powdered mixture (equal proportions of Fe, C, and MnO2 powders thoroughly intermixed) enables the nullification of sharp “spikes” of energy from harming us during personal “fusions” with radionic emanations. The MnO2 powder gave a tone-signature which was distinctly pure and “smooth” sounding. There were no ripples, spikes, or sharp metallic sounds in this sample. Among the dissonant overtone dances of metals and minerals, the MnO2 remained sofa, smooth, and harmonic.

Article by Buryl Payne — from Journal of Borderland Research (Vol. 46, No. 6, Nov. – Dec. 1990)

A simple apparatus has been discovered which can be used to detect direct emanations from the visible planets, Sun and Moon. The apparatus is shown in Figure 1 mounted on a six-inch reflecting telescope. It is simply a five inch diameter, six foot long stove pipe with an automotive funnel at the end. The funnel, available at Sears automotive stores, has a flexible metal tube. A clock drive keeps the device focused on the object of interest. The detecting substance is a small amount of water in a glass bottle attached to the end of the flexible tube.

The present means of detection is taste.

BACKGROUND

The basic idea for this device came from the study of the work of Wilhelm Reich’s writings on Orgone energy and cloud-busters. What Reich called Orgone energy strongly interacted with water. His cloud-busters were long metal tubes pointed at clouds and attached by hollow flexible BX cables to running water. Reich claimed that the water had to be running in order to move the Orgone energy. According to Reich this apparatus altered the Orgone energy of the local atmosphere and could produce rain, as he demonstrated on several occasions.

In seeking a way to validate the notions of astrology, the author formulated the hypothesis that planets could be giving off emanations of some sort which Reich’s cloud-buster could detect. The author thought that perhaps Reich’s cloud-busters were actually picking up emanations from planets or celestial objects and not from clouds as he believed. Instead of allowing the energy or whatever to dissipate in running water, it seemed more worthwhile to collect it, if possible, for analysis.

OTHER VERSIONS OF THE DEVICE

The first device was constructed about 1973. The stove pipe in the first device was only three feet long. A tiny hole in the funnel near the exit tube allowed the observer to focus on the planet of interest. Later the stove pipe was wrapped with a wool blanket following Reich’s work with Orgone accumulators which used layers of soft iron and wool to accumulate Orgone energy. The water was held in a small metal, glass, or plastic bottle attached by a couple of strips of velcro to the end of the funnel. This initial apparatus called “The Moon Gun” by my friends, had to be moved every few minutes to keep the planet within focus.

Another version of the “Moon Gun” consisted of 4 iron pipes, two inches in diameter and eight feet long and connected together by a stainless steel bowl with a short piece of flexible metal conduit to guide the planetary emanations into the sample water bottle. This device was quite heavy, but could be moved in two directions by a swivel and frame arrangement. Rather bizarre looking, as it sat in the front lawn for several years, it seemed to be successful at keeping intruders off the property – a sort of scientific scarecrow.

Yet another version of the “Moon Gun” was made by arranging 60 feet of 3/4 inch diameter copper pipe into a spiral helix. The wide end of the spiral was about 6 feet in diameter and the length of the helix was about 9 feet. The pipe was simply bent straight back at the apex and a pan of water was placed in contact with the pipe. This version was immovable. It was tied between a tree and a telephone pole on the garage roof with the open end pointed at the plane of the ecliptic. It was rather inconvenient to use as it required getting up at the hour of the night when the planet of interest was within the focus of the spiral. It was viewed with some suspicion by neighbors and telephone officials but no dire consequences occurred.

RESULTS

All the devices worked. Effects, as indicated by changes in taste were noticed after about twenty minutes exposure. Drinking the water produced psycho-physiological effects within 10 to 20 minutes.

However taste changes or effects were not invariably present: sometimes they were very noticeable, and at other times they were barely observable or non-existent. Many different tests were made over a period of more than ten years. Observations so far should be considered more like a pilot study however they are reported here so that someone with more time or facilities might build on them. It was hoped that some way to increase the effect might be discovered, which would enable a more systematic analysis to be undertaken, and chemical tests of the water to be made. So far this hasn’t happened, but perhaps some reader will hit upon an improvement in the design which would make the effects much stronger.

The data is organized into observations made on the Sun, Moon, and some of the planets. The data reported below was taken from my note books made over more than ten years time from three different locations in Massachusetts – Framingham, Boston, and Manomet.

SUN

Nov. 1, 1974, 12 noon. Just completed the 4-barrelled version. Directed it at the Sun for 20 minutes and both myself and my friend, who helped build the instrument, drank the water. Within 15 minutes we both felt like taking a nap, and fell asleep on cushions on the living room floor. Although we had been up late working on it, it is rare for me to take naps.

Summer, 1975. Gave water, which had been exposed to the Sun, to my son, aged 6, who had measles and was supposed to be quiet and in bed and would not do so. He quickly fell asleep and slept all afternoon.

Fall, 1975. Exposed water to Sun for 20 minutes and gave it to a friend with no explanation or mention of its source. She drank it and fell asleep for two hours.

Jan. 18, 1976. Tap water samples exposed in device to Sun radiation appeared cloudy after 20 minutes exposure. This water, like most water used in the experiments, was in a glass bottle.

March, 1978. Pointed short tube and 4-barrelled device at the Sun. It was the day of the full moon and there was a lunar eclipse. The water tasted terrible. Five observers were present and all agreed that the water had a strong, unpleasant taste. The water produced a temporary feeling of nausea when drunk. When one observer commented that the water tasted like burnt rubber, everyone, including me, emphatically agreed. The taste was very strong. No rubber like material was anywhere near or in the device.

People were generally upset at the time of this eclipse. Almost everyone I had contact with on this day felt mildly ill, irritable, or ‘out of sorts’.

Many water samples were exposed. It was found that a metal cover over the front of the tube stopped the effect. However a control bottle of water left sitting in the driveway showed the same taste difference although to a lesser degree. An ordinary metal funnel, propped up in the shade with its stern in a bottle of water produced some mild taste of ‘burnt rubber’. Placing a cork at the end of the funnel stem stopped the taste effect. Simply leaving a bottle of water sitting for an hour in the kitchen showed a mild taste, but putting a bottle in the refrigerator completely eliminated any taste difference. This was an unusual and, for many, a difficult day. Probably all water everywhere was altered around the time of this lunar eclipse.

Prior to 1980, observations were made with either the 4-barrelled device or the short cloud-buster device. After that year the longer tube mounted on a telescope support was used (Figure 1).

Jan. 26, 1980. Directed the apparatus (Figure 1) at the Sun which was just rising. A strong taste was noticeable in the Water. (It’s very difficult to describe these tastes in any meaningful way. About the most that I can record is their strength.) No effects were noticed from drinking the water.

As a control, left a sample bottle of water open at the top, in the shade. No taste was noticeable after 30 minutes.

Then directed the apparatus at the Sun, now much higher in the sky, and observed a strong, but different taste in the water.

As another type of control I pointed the instrument at the pine trees and left it for one hour. The water tasted like pine trees! I was so amazed by this that at first I thought it was my imagination. However it was a very clear and strong taste. (A pine tree taste was not observed on another occasion.)

Left the device pointed at the sky above the horizon where the Sun had risen earlier. The clock drive was not engaged. After several hours exposure the water had a strong and peculiar taste.

Following this I pointed the device at the wall of the house and left it for over an hour. There was a slight taste in the water.

Then I moved the apparatus to where I judged Venus should be, knowing from the table how far it was from the Sun. A strong taste was noticeable.

All tastes today were strong and different from each other.

Sunday, Jan. 27, 1980. Pointed the apparatus at the Sun which was about 10° above the horizon. A strong taste was observed.

Left apparatus pointed at the same place above the horizon although the Sun had moved on. After a 35 minute exposure only a slight taste (similar in quality to the previous taste effect) was noticeable.

Left apparatus pointed at the same place (10° above the horizon) for two hours. A mild taste was present in the water. No noticeable effects were observed from drinking the water.

Possibly the strong tastes observed on the previous day were related to more solar and geomagnetic activity. From the solar geophysical data records published by NOAA I found: “[solar] Region 2245 produced a class X2 X-ray burst on 27 January with maximum at 11:52 Universal Time.” Sunspot number went from 103 on Jan. 25th to 153 on Jan. 26th and 160 on Jan. 27th.

March 1, 1980. There was a lunar eclipse at 4 pm. Pointed the gun at the Sun at sunrise. The taste was described as “thick” by an observer. No psycho-physiological effects noticed. At 12:30 noon repeated the observation. A strong taste was again apparent.

At 2:30 pm repeated the test. Meanwhile the sky had become hazy, and the tube had drifted slightly off focus. No noticeable taste and no effect on me.

August 9, 1980. At 3 pm aimed smaller device at the Sun. It was one day before a solar eclipse. No apparent taste was noticed, but afterwards I was so sleepy I couldn’t concentrate on my work, although I forced myself to stay awake. It was one of the hottest days of summer. Finally at 6:30 I did take a nap.

August 10, 1980, 11 am. Sun water (from the apparatus) produced a slight taste – not pleasant – and no
effects noticed from drinking it. The daily Sunspot number went from 139, (on August 7) to 142, 154, and reached a minor peak of 169 on August 10.

February 18, 1981. Set up both short and long tube devices to point at the Sun. (It was near the time of the full moon.) A 30 minute exposure produced a strong acrid taste. My stomach felt slightly upset about 15 minutes later.

I pointed one apparatus at the sky, the other one at rock steps as a control. I expected no taste if it was the Sun which was radiating something into the tube, but after a 25 minute exposure strong but different tastes were noticeable from the water from both devices. As a second control I stuffed towels in the end of both tubes and left them for one hour. Both water samples still tasted different from a control bottle of water left sitting on a nearby rock.

From the NOAA reports I found that Sunspot number was on the increase this day; the geomagnetic activity was low and the 2800 mHz (10.7 cm) radiation from the Sun was at a relative peak. (See observations following under “Moon” on this same date – Feb. 18, 1981.)

September 10, 1981. Aimed big apparatus at the Sun. It was nearing the time of the full moon. I noticed a slight taste difference in the water, but two observers did not notice any difference between a control water sample which had been sitting nearby and the test samples which were from the apparatus. Repeated the test observations three times with no positive results.

MOON

Full Moon, Feb. 14, 1976. Concentrated emanations in sample bottle of water using smallest apparatus. It tasted like tap water which it was. After a few minutes I felt slightly nauseous. Did not notice any psycho-physiological effects.

Many full Moon observations were made in the early years which generally gave the same effects – a slight feeling of nausea after drinking the water. Sometimes a taste change was evident and sometimes not.

March 1, 1980. Full Moon eclipse and Moon conjunct Mars and Jupiter. The water had a noticeable taste, and no psycho-physiological effects.

December 21, 1980. Water exposed to the full Moon this evening had no apparent taste, but I felt buoyant afterwards even though I had been driving into the city with traffic hassles all day. Sitting by the fire, I was feeling cheerful and optimistic. Since usually after a day of city traffic I would feel tired, this was unusual.

February 18, 1981. A very bright and not unpleasant full moon for most people. At 7 pm I exposed the water in the collector bottle to the Moon’s emanations for 20 minutes, then drank it. No discernible taste. I felt slightly tipsy, spaced, and was scared of my friend’s driving as we left in the car. I felt I needed to hold on, hold together – never had this experience before.

April 13, 1981. Pointed apparatus at Moon at 7 pm. Moon was not full. A definite taste was noticed; not a good taste. No noticeable effects. According to NOAA reports the geomagnetic held showed rapid fluctuations on this day.

April 18, 1981. Moon nearly full and partially obscured by clouds. Noticeable taste, but no psycho-physiological effects.

July 6, 1982. There was to be a lunar eclipse in the early morning of the next day. About 10 pm I set up the apparatus with a new funnel which had been washed in the automatic dishwasher to clear it of the film of oil present when it was purchased.

After 20 minutes exposure to the Moon, a taste difference was clearly apparent. An unpleasant taste, hard to describe or compare with common tastes. I repeated the water exposure to the Moon several times. Two observers present also confirmed a clear taste difference. Around 11 pm I drank the water from the last test period and went to prepare for bed. My wife said: “Your energy is funny – You’re kind of intrusive.”

I did feel slightly energetic and bumbly – kind of scattered and irritable.

At 2:15 am I arose to make observations at the time of the eclipse. The Moon was about 2/3 covered when I went outside. The apparatus had been tracking the Moon all night with water in the sample bottle for about three hours. It had a much stronger taste than it had earlier in the evening and of the same quality – not a pleasant taste. I drank the entire bottle, then I filled it again and drank it after twelve minutes exposure to the full Moon which was now totally eclipsed. No obvious psycho-physiological effects noticed. I stayed up the rest of the night, making several tests. The water continued to have a strong taste at every test made until dawn.

NEW MOON AND SOLAR ECLIPSE OBSERVATIONS

June 17, 1980. There was a New Moon conjunct Neptune, square Saturn. At Noon a sample of water was exposed to the Sun for about 35 minutes. I drank the water which tasted acrid and bitter and went inside to type. About 12 minutes later I became irritable. Hearing some terrible singer on the radio I swore, screamed and angrily shut the radio off, then drove away in my car. As I was driving I was fantasizing punching some guy who had slightly irritated me about something. About four miles up the road I psychologically woke up! I realized what had happened. I had drunk that water! When I had that realization the anger left me and I completed my errand and planned to repeat the experiment.

At 4 pm I repeated the experiment. The water did not taste as strong as previously. I made a mental resolution to go down to the beach and throw rocks if I felt irritable. I went to my lab to work. Again, in about 15 minutes I became very irritable, completely forgetting my drinking the water and my resolve to throw rocks. Again the radio was on and I found a commercial so irritating I swore at the radio and angrily turned it off. Then I remembered the experiment, the water, and my resolve to go throw rocks.

It was amazing, upon recollection, to notice how the mood change took me over, subtly and unawares. I just seemed to drift from a normal pleasant mood to one of great irritability without the slightest awareness. This was the strongest psychological effect I ever obtained from the water samples exposed in my devices.

A control sample made by pointing the instrument at the sky had no taste or effect on me. Later I did recall that a radio astrologer had stated that this would be an angry new moon.

June 17, (year not noted). Moon two days old in Leo near a bright star, and 5° from Jupiter. Strong taste was observed from both smaller and larger apparatus. Noticed a continuously rising galvanic skin response from biofeedback equipment although I attempted to relax. No subjective feelings.

October 6, 1984, 9 am. Pointed instrument at Sun-Moon as it was a new moon. Drank the water after 45 minutes exposure. After about 15 minutes I felt peculiar – kind of woozy and unfocused, as if I’d had three glasses of wine. After about 15 minutes this feeling dissipated.

Refilled the sample bottle and after 40 minutes exposure, gave the water to a visitor. She felt “high” in about 10 minutes and the effect disappeared when she swam in the cold ocean water ten minutes later.

VENUS

After the Sun and Moon, Venus was the most predominate planet to study. Effects were noticed in the first years, although no specific notes were made. On several occasions the water tasted metallic I sometimes felt a little giddy, as if I’d had a glass of wine.

One time the exposed water was given to a female friend. She too, experienced some giddiness, and a metallic taste. To test whether or not suggestion could be operating, the following night Venus was again bright and I set up the apparatus, and a few minutes later brought the sample of water to her, exclaiming how brilliant Venus was; that the effect should be very strong and wonderful this nite, etc. Then I let her drink the water, which was plain tap water, and left the room. Returning 30 minutes later I asked her what happened. She said she didn’t notice anything. “Sorry to disappoint you, Buryl, but I didn’t feel anything.”

Some specific comments from my note-books follow:

Jan 12, (year not noted), 5:40 pm. Venus was the highest and brightest for the six month period. There was a slight taste and after drinking the water I felt kind of excited and zippy.

Jan 26, 1980, 6 pm. Pointed the instrument at Venus. The water had a strong taste. (On this date all tests made showed effects – sunspots were on the increase.)

March 19, 1980. Moon was conjunct Venus. No taste in sample water.

August 13, 1980. Arose at 4 am to make a test. Venus was very bright. The water tasted terrible. I went back to sleep and had a sexy dream – a rare event for me.

October 5, 1980, 6 am. Moon was conjunct Venus. It was foggy. There was a noticeable taste difference, but no psycho-physiological effect. I may have pointed the tube incorrectly since I later noticed the telescope used to sight on the planet was slightly out of line with the tube.

November 26, 1984. Moon conjunct both Venus and Jupiter; a lovely sight. I exposed the water for about 20 minutes. Noticed a metallic taste, and about 15 minutes later I felt sad. Just listening to the news on the radio triggered some crying. I had felt kind of quiet and low all day.

November 29, 1986, 5:30 am. Moon conjunct Venus which was very bright at half phase low in the Eastern sky. The Moon was about 4° underneath Venus and 1° South. Made an exposure for 20 minutes. There appeared to be a slight taste just on the surface of the water sample (something I had often noticed – a surface taste only). There were no noticeable psycho-physiological effects.

The test was repeated but with the telescope focused on the Moon which was two days before new. No noticeable taste, but my heart felt sore. Could I be imagining this? Chest area around the heart was not really sore, just much feeling – a tightness. A few minutes later happened to read something which triggered crying.

I would have considered this experience to be personal and irrelevant until I happened to look at my notebook and see the similarity with the test made almost exactly two years before.

JUPITER

Initial observations on Jupiter, especially when Jupiter was close to Earth, produced a taste characteristically different from Venus, Sun, or Moon. On two occasions the water tasted ‘punky’ or ‘swampy’. Only two weeks after these observations Science News carried a report that sulphur had been detected in the radio emissions of Jupiter.

Sometimes the water from Jupiter tasted good and seemed to have a beneficial effect on the drinker. I noticed that a slightly upset stomach cleared up immediately after drinking Jupiter water. One time a pot had been placed for about an hour at the end of the large copper spiral device while Jupiter had been in view.

An associate came into the office about 8 pm, said she wasn’t feeling well – I gave her a glass of Jupiter water to drink without telling her what it was. About 30 minutes later she asked what was in the water. She said she felt better. If this were only one isolated incident, it could have been dismissed, but it happened several times.

JUPITER – SATURN

In 1980 Jupiter and Saturn were within a few degrees of each other. A number of tests were made during this year and some of the observations from my notebook are recorded below:

December 20, 1980. Full Moon Evening. Returned home from a party at 2:40 am, tired and sleepy, especially after a 45 minute car ride. At 3 am I drank the water which had been exposed for 75 minutes to the combined effect of Jupiter and Saturn. No taste was apparent. I took a shower and went to bed, but could not sleep for over one hour – very restless.

December 31, 1980, 5 am. The time of closest approach of Jupiter to Saturn was at 4 pm that afternoon. There was no apparent taste to the water after exposure to emanations of Jupiter and Saturn simultaneously, but afterwards I felt frustrated. I could not definitely say the effect was due to the water which I had drunk, but I was angry, frustrated, upset, and pacing around the room. If it had not been 10° outside I would have gone for a run.

February 16, 1981. Pointed both large and small devices at Jupiter and Saturn. No noticeable effects. But it was hard to be sure of their aim.

February 17, 1981, in the evening. Water did not have any taste, but I felt charged up and eager to work. Stayed up late.

February 18, 1981. Same effect noticed. It was later in the evening when I made the test.

As these planets separated I could easily differentiate between the two with the instrument.

July 9, 1982. First set the scope on Jupiter and found water sample had a very slight taste. Then changed the water sample bottle to be sure there was no contamination, and thoroughly rinsed the end of the funnel. Then the scope was focused on Saturn.

After 20 minutes I observed a distinctly different taste – kind of bitter-metallic. This is a familiar taste observed in the water from these tests, but many controls have shown it is not coming from the metal end of the funnel. Although the tastes were different I didn’t notice any psychophysical reactions from either the Jupiter or the Saturn water on this occasion.

SATURN

April 13, 1981. Aimed the apparatus at the Moon and made a 20 minutes exposure. A clearly different taste was observed compared with the control sample – not a good taste. No noticeable effect on me. Then focused the instrument on Saturn. A clearly different taste was noticed. Muscle testing showed no weakness on Saturn water, yet three observers agreed that there were taste differences between Saturn, the Moon, and the control water.

MARS

June 17, 1980, 9:30 pm. First made a test on the Moon and Jupiter which were conjunct, followed by a test on Mars. Completely different tastes were observed. No psycho-physiological effects noticeable. As a control I pointed the apparatus randomly at the stars. After a 30 minutes exposure, the water exhibited no change in taste.

PLUTO

Jan 12, 6:35 am. (Year not noted.) According to the ephemeris the Moon was conjunct Pluto. It was hazy and the Moon was waning; only 1/4 strong. Left water for 20 minutes. The taste was smokey, not especially a good taste. No noticeable effect, except possibly a little mental fuzziness.

CONTROLS AND OTHER EXPERIMENTS

May 6, 1981. Magnets were placed at the open end of the tube. The apparatus was pointed at the sky. A slight taste was observed after 20 minutes. A control test with no magnets also produced a taste, but less strong. A second control with no magnets again produced a rusty taste. Presumable this was because the funnel was rusty and needed replacing. But a rusty taste had not been noticed before.

May 7, 1981. Left the sample bottle on the apparatus overnight with the South poles of four cylindrical magnets pointing inward. The magnets held themselves in place on the soft iron stove pipe. They were about 1 inch diameter and 5 inches long – estimated field strength several thousand gauss each. A strong taste was noticeable.

Aimed the device at the foggy sky, oriented about 40° up and toward the South-east. Left it for about three hours, during which period, the sky cleared and then refogged. The water had a strong taste.

Leaving the instrument in position, I stuffed the opening with a towel. Three hours later the water tasted the same as a control bottle which had been sitting on a nearby bulkhead.

May 8, 1981. Tastes were noticeable with everything I did today. Magnets at the end of the tube or no magnets, with the tube pointed at the sky, at the Sun, at flowers, at the house. Sunspot activity was at a relative peak on May 8th.

May 17, 1981. I placed distilled water such that light from the telescope would shine in the water and placed a second sample bottle as usual at the end of the funnel. There was no noticeable taste to the water exposed to the light from the tele-scope, but there was a taste in the water from the funnel. This observation was verified by an independent observer as well.

Well water (which has iron in it at my home) produced a much stronger taste (acrid and bitter) than distilled water. Again there was no taste difference noticed in the water exposed at the end of the telescope.

DISCUSSION

Some of the facts which have emerged from this work are listed below:

  1. There is some emanation which appears to be originating from the Sun, Moon, and at least some of the planets.
  2. The emanations interact with water.
  3. The emanations have some connection with solar activity and/or geomagnetic activity.
  4. The water is affected. Sometimes it tastes different, and/or sometimes it produces psycho-physiological effects when it is drunk.
  5. The effects are different from the different planets.

Since our Sun appears to be a strong source of the emanations, presumably all stars produce similar emanations. Since we are 65% water, drink water, and breathe water vapor along with air, we are presumably being continuously affected by the emanations from the Sun, Moon, planets, and all the stars.

The observation that water exposed to the Sun in the apparatus, made people sleepy was puzzling at first, but seems to it with the common observation that after sun-bathing people become sleepy. Sleep has always been a mystery. It is a very powerful drive. Perhaps this work provides an important bit of new information.

Effects from the planets on water may follow somewhat traditional astrological notions. This does seem to offer a means for validating such notions, but of course it will take some time.

In another experiment I set two glasses of water on two coils of wire pulsed with direct current. Each glass of water was exposed to a different magnetic pole. A third glass served as a control. Taste differences were usually noticeable in the water. Tastes were similar to those observed from some of the planets, however it is difficult to verbalize or categorize tastes.

Magnetic fields have been found to alter chemical reactions. A Swedish company manufactures a magnet treating apparatus for reducing calcium deposits in boilers.

No chemical tests were made on water samples from the instruments described in this paper. It was found that this would be prohibitively expensive.

Water is not a simple substance. Besides the known forms of liquid, solid, and gas, water molecules can form complex loose structures that are not well understood. In liquid form some of the molecules ionize, some form hypermolecules, and probably many other different complex patterns. Biologists speak of “living water” or “structured water”. The dynamics of the living cells may superimpose a structure on water making it suitable for some purpose of which we are unaware. This may be a constantly changing pattern and different within different cells and tissues. Water in the air is different from water in lakes and ponds and rivers which is again different from water in the oceans. Water is the most dynamic compound on the planet.

Magnetic fields may indirectly affect water thru the mechanism of altering the hydrogen proton which is the nucleus of the hydrogen atom. Under the influence of a varying or oscillating magnetic field the hydrogen proton swings to and fro. It gives off a low frequency pulse of around 2700 Hz (called the hydrogen precession frequency). This conceivably could influence events within our bodies or produce some changes at the molecular level. (Payne, 1984)

Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) imaging techniques make use of similar effects. Perhaps protons of other atoms are also affected by geomagnetic storms. Although the effects would be small they could be significant for a biological organism.

At times of heightened sunspot activity, solar flares and events occur on the Sun which increase the solar wind flow and produce turbulence in Earth’s magnetic field. This in turn may alter hydrogen protons within water and other organic compounds and produce subtle heretofore unrecognized effects. Many different researchers have found associations between crimes, riots, accidents, illnesses, psychotic episodes, and wars and solar and planetary magnetic activity. There is also a link between geomagnetic activity and weather. Interactions with the hydrogen proton in high altitude clouds may be an actor in this as well.

SUGGESTIONS FOR FURTHER RESEARCH

Many research topics come to mind and a few are listed below:

  1. Is this a different form of energy? Or just a different form of magnetism?
  2. Is it unique to living organisms?
  3. Can the water exposed to the emanations be stored?
  4. Haw can the effects be amplified or increased?
  5. Can specific emanations be detected from Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto? From Mercury? From the stars or the galactic center?
  6. Many pulsars oscillate at frequencies near those common to the human brain. They also have enormous magnetic fields. Can they produce effects on hydrogen protons?

CONCLUSION

This preliminary work is merely exploratory. There are many variables and unknowns which need to be untangled one by one in some systematic manner if possible. It’s premature to make any definite conclusions at the present time. This could take years of research and is beyond the powers of one person. Therefore it is hoped that others will carry these simple experiments forward in their own creative ways. Since the apparatus is so simple, anyone can make original discoveries. It should be an exciting scientific adventure!
