A simple apparatus has been discovered which can be used to detect direct emanations from the visible planets, Sun and Moon. The apparatus is shown in Figure 1 mounted on a six-inch reflecting telescope. It is simply a five inch diameter, six foot long stove pipe with an automotive funnel at the end. The funnel, available at Sears automotive stores, has a flexible metal tube. A clock drive keeps the device focused on the object of interest. The detecting substance is a small amount of water in a glass bottle attached to the end of the flexible tube.

The present means of detection is taste.

BACKGROUND

The basic idea for this device came from the study of the work of Wilhelm Reich’s writings on Orgone energy and cloud-busters. What Reich called Orgone energy strongly interacted with water. His cloud-busters were long metal tubes pointed at clouds and attached by hollow flexible BX cables to running water. Reich claimed that the water had to be running in order to move the Orgone energy. According to Reich this apparatus altered the Orgone energy of the local atmosphere and could produce rain, as he demonstrated on several occasions.

In seeking a way to validate the notions of astrology, the author formulated the hypothesis that planets could be giving off emanations of some sort which Reich’s cloud-buster could detect. The author thought that perhaps Reich’s cloud-busters were actually picking up emanations from planets or celestial objects and not from clouds as he believed. Instead of allowing the energy or whatever to dissipate in running water, it seemed more worthwhile to collect it, if possible, for analysis.

OTHER VERSIONS OF THE DEVICE

The first device was constructed about 1973. The stove pipe in the first device was only three feet long. A tiny hole in the funnel near the exit tube allowed the observer to focus on the planet of interest. Later the stove pipe was wrapped with a wool blanket following Reich’s work with Orgone accumulators which used layers of soft iron and wool to accumulate Orgone energy. The water was held in a small metal, glass, or plastic bottle attached by a couple of strips of velcro to the end of the funnel. This initial apparatus called “The Moon Gun” by my friends, had to be moved every few minutes to keep the planet within focus.

Another version of the “Moon Gun” consisted of 4 iron pipes, two inches in diameter and eight feet long and connected together by a stainless steel bowl with a short piece of flexible metal conduit to guide the planetary emanations into the sample water bottle. This device was quite heavy, but could be moved in two directions by a swivel and frame arrangement. Rather bizarre looking, as it sat in the front lawn for several years, it seemed to be successful at keeping intruders off the property – a sort of scientific scarecrow.

Yet another version of the “Moon Gun” was made by arranging 60 feet of 3/4 inch diameter copper pipe into a spiral helix. The wide end of the spiral was about 6 feet in diameter and the length of the helix was about 9 feet. The pipe was simply bent straight back at the apex and a pan of water was placed in contact with the pipe. This version was immovable. It was tied between a tree and a telephone pole on the garage roof with the open end pointed at the plane of the ecliptic. It was rather inconvenient to use as it required getting up at the hour of the night when the planet of interest was within the focus of the spiral. It was viewed with some suspicion by neighbors and telephone officials but no dire consequences occurred.

RESULTS

All the devices worked. Effects, as indicated by changes in taste were noticed after about twenty minutes exposure. Drinking the water produced psycho-physiological effects within 10 to 20 minutes.

However taste changes or effects were not invariably present: sometimes they were very noticeable, and at other times they were barely observable or non-existent. Many different tests were made over a period of more than ten years. Observations so far should be considered more like a pilot study however they are reported here so that someone with more time or facilities might build on them. It was hoped that some way to increase the effect might be discovered, which would enable a more systematic analysis to be undertaken, and chemical tests of the water to be made. So far this hasn’t happened, but perhaps some reader will hit upon an improvement in the design which would make the effects much stronger.

The data is organized into observations made on the Sun, Moon, and some of the planets. The data reported below was taken from my note books made over more than ten years time from three different locations in Massachusetts – Framingham, Boston, and Manomet.

SUN

Nov. 1, 1974, 12 noon. Just completed the 4-barrelled version. Directed it at the Sun for 20 minutes and both myself and my friend, who helped build the instrument, drank the water. Within 15 minutes we both felt like taking a nap, and fell asleep on cushions on the living room floor. Although we had been up late working on it, it is rare for me to take naps.

Summer, 1975. Gave water, which had been exposed to the Sun, to my son, aged 6, who had measles and was supposed to be quiet and in bed and would not do so. He quickly fell asleep and slept all afternoon.

Fall, 1975. Exposed water to Sun for 20 minutes and gave it to a friend with no explanation or mention of its source. She drank it and fell asleep for two hours.

Jan. 18, 1976. Tap water samples exposed in device to Sun radiation appeared cloudy after 20 minutes exposure. This water, like most water used in the experiments, was in a glass bottle.

March, 1978. Pointed short tube and 4-barrelled device at the Sun. It was the day of the full moon and there was a lunar eclipse. The water tasted terrible. Five observers were present and all agreed that the water had a strong, unpleasant taste. The water produced a temporary feeling of nausea when drunk. When one observer commented that the water tasted like burnt rubber, everyone, including me, emphatically agreed. The taste was very strong. No rubber like material was anywhere near or in the device.

People were generally upset at the time of this eclipse. Almost everyone I had contact with on this day felt mildly ill, irritable, or ‘out of sorts’.

Many water samples were exposed. It was found that a metal cover over the front of the tube stopped the effect. However a control bottle of water left sitting in the driveway showed the same taste difference although to a lesser degree. An ordinary metal funnel, propped up in the shade with its stern in a bottle of water produced some mild taste of ‘burnt rubber’. Placing a cork at the end of the funnel stem stopped the taste effect. Simply leaving a bottle of water sitting for an hour in the kitchen showed a mild taste, but putting a bottle in the refrigerator completely eliminated any taste difference. This was an unusual and, for many, a difficult day. Probably all water everywhere was altered around the time of this lunar eclipse.

Prior to 1980, observations were made with either the 4-barrelled device or the short cloud-buster device. After that year the longer tube mounted on a telescope support was used (Figure 1).

Jan. 26, 1980. Directed the apparatus (Figure 1) at the Sun which was just rising. A strong taste was noticeable in the Water. (It’s very difficult to describe these tastes in any meaningful way. About the most that I can record is their strength.) No effects were noticed from drinking the water.

As a control, left a sample bottle of water open at the top, in the shade. No taste was noticeable after 30 minutes.

Then directed the apparatus at the Sun, now much higher in the sky, and observed a strong, but different taste in the water.

As another type of control I pointed the instrument at the pine trees and left it for one hour. The water tasted like pine trees! I was so amazed by this that at first I thought it was my imagination. However it was a very clear and strong taste. (A pine tree taste was not observed on another occasion.)

Left the device pointed at the sky above the horizon where the Sun had risen earlier. The clock drive was not engaged. After several hours exposure the water had a strong and peculiar taste.

Following this I pointed the device at the wall of the house and left it for over an hour. There was a slight taste in the water.

Then I moved the apparatus to where I judged Venus should be, knowing from the table how far it was from the Sun. A strong taste was noticeable.

All tastes today were strong and different from each other.

Sunday, Jan. 27, 1980. Pointed the apparatus at the Sun which was about 10° above the horizon. A strong taste was observed.

Left apparatus pointed at the same place above the horizon although the Sun had moved on. After a 35 minute exposure only a slight taste (similar in quality to the previous taste effect) was noticeable.

Left apparatus pointed at the same place (10° above the horizon) for two hours. A mild taste was present in the water. No noticeable effects were observed from drinking the water.

Possibly the strong tastes observed on the previous day were related to more solar and geomagnetic activity. From the solar geophysical data records published by NOAA I found: “[solar] Region 2245 produced a class X2 X-ray burst on 27 January with maximum at 11:52 Universal Time.” Sunspot number went from 103 on Jan. 25th to 153 on Jan. 26th and 160 on Jan. 27th.

March 1, 1980. There was a lunar eclipse at 4 pm. Pointed the gun at the Sun at sunrise. The taste was described as “thick” by an observer. No psycho-physiological effects noticed. At 12:30 noon repeated the observation. A strong taste was again apparent.

At 2:30 pm repeated the test. Meanwhile the sky had become hazy, and the tube had drifted slightly off focus. No noticeable taste and no effect on me.

August 9, 1980. At 3 pm aimed smaller device at the Sun. It was one day before a solar eclipse. No apparent taste was noticed, but afterwards I was so sleepy I couldn’t concentrate on my work, although I forced myself to stay awake. It was one of the hottest days of summer. Finally at 6:30 I did take a nap.

August 10, 1980, 11 am. Sun water (from the apparatus) produced a slight taste – not pleasant – and no
effects noticed from drinking it. The daily Sunspot number went from 139, (on August 7) to 142, 154, and reached a minor peak of 169 on August 10.

February 18, 1981. Set up both short and long tube devices to point at the Sun. (It was near the time of the full moon.) A 30 minute exposure produced a strong acrid taste. My stomach felt slightly upset about 15 minutes later.

I pointed one apparatus at the sky, the other one at rock steps as a control. I expected no taste if it was the Sun which was radiating something into the tube, but after a 25 minute exposure strong but different tastes were noticeable from the water from both devices. As a second control I stuffed towels in the end of both tubes and left them for one hour. Both water samples still tasted different from a control bottle of water left sitting on a nearby rock.

From the NOAA reports I found that Sunspot number was on the increase this day; the geomagnetic activity was low and the 2800 mHz (10.7 cm) radiation from the Sun was at a relative peak. (See observations following under “Moon” on this same date – Feb. 18, 1981.)

September 10, 1981. Aimed big apparatus at the Sun. It was nearing the time of the full moon. I noticed a slight taste difference in the water, but two observers did not notice any difference between a control water sample which had been sitting nearby and the test samples which were from the apparatus. Repeated the test observations three times with no positive results.

MOON

Full Moon, Feb. 14, 1976. Concentrated emanations in sample bottle of water using smallest apparatus. It tasted like tap water which it was. After a few minutes I felt slightly nauseous. Did not notice any psycho-physiological effects.

Many full Moon observations were made in the early years which generally gave the same effects – a slight feeling of nausea after drinking the water. Sometimes a taste change was evident and sometimes not.

March 1, 1980. Full Moon eclipse and Moon conjunct Mars and Jupiter. The water had a noticeable taste, and no psycho-physiological effects.

December 21, 1980. Water exposed to the full Moon this evening had no apparent taste, but I felt buoyant afterwards even though I had been driving into the city with traffic hassles all day. Sitting by the fire, I was feeling cheerful and optimistic. Since usually after a day of city traffic I would feel tired, this was unusual.

February 18, 1981. A very bright and not unpleasant full moon for most people. At 7 pm I exposed the water in the collector bottle to the Moon’s emanations for 20 minutes, then drank it. No discernible taste. I felt slightly tipsy, spaced, and was scared of my friend’s driving as we left in the car. I felt I needed to hold on, hold together – never had this experience before.

April 13, 1981. Pointed apparatus at Moon at 7 pm. Moon was not full. A definite taste was noticed; not a good taste. No noticeable effects. According to NOAA reports the geomagnetic held showed rapid fluctuations on this day.

April 18, 1981. Moon nearly full and partially obscured by clouds. Noticeable taste, but no psycho-physiological effects.

July 6, 1982. There was to be a lunar eclipse in the early morning of the next day. About 10 pm I set up the apparatus with a new funnel which had been washed in the automatic dishwasher to clear it of the film of oil present when it was purchased.

After 20 minutes exposure to the Moon, a taste difference was clearly apparent. An unpleasant taste, hard to describe or compare with common tastes. I repeated the water exposure to the Moon several times. Two observers present also confirmed a clear taste difference. Around 11 pm I drank the water from the last test period and went to prepare for bed. My wife said: “Your energy is funny – You’re kind of intrusive.”

I did feel slightly energetic and bumbly – kind of scattered and irritable.

At 2:15 am I arose to make observations at the time of the eclipse. The Moon was about 2/3 covered when I went outside. The apparatus had been tracking the Moon all night with water in the sample bottle for about three hours. It had a much stronger taste than it had earlier in the evening and of the same quality – not a pleasant taste. I drank the entire bottle, then I filled it again and drank it after twelve minutes exposure to the full Moon which was now totally eclipsed. No obvious psycho-physiological effects noticed. I stayed up the rest of the night, making several tests. The water continued to have a strong taste at every test made until dawn.

NEW MOON AND SOLAR ECLIPSE OBSERVATIONS

June 17, 1980. There was a New Moon conjunct Neptune, square Saturn. At Noon a sample of water was exposed to the Sun for about 35 minutes. I drank the water which tasted acrid and bitter and went inside to type. About 12 minutes later I became irritable. Hearing some terrible singer on the radio I swore, screamed and angrily shut the radio off, then drove away in my car. As I was driving I was fantasizing punching some guy who had slightly irritated me about something. About four miles up the road I psychologically woke up! I realized what had happened. I had drunk that water! When I had that realization the anger left me and I completed my errand and planned to repeat the experiment.

At 4 pm I repeated the experiment. The water did not taste as strong as previously. I made a mental resolution to go down to the beach and throw rocks if I felt irritable. I went to my lab to work. Again, in about 15 minutes I became very irritable, completely forgetting my drinking the water and my resolve to throw rocks. Again the radio was on and I found a commercial so irritating I swore at the radio and angrily turned it off. Then I remembered the experiment, the water, and my resolve to go throw rocks.

It was amazing, upon recollection, to notice how the mood change took me over, subtly and unawares. I just seemed to drift from a normal pleasant mood to one of great irritability without the slightest awareness. This was the strongest psychological effect I ever obtained from the water samples exposed in my devices.

A control sample made by pointing the instrument at the sky had no taste or effect on me. Later I did recall that a radio astrologer had stated that this would be an angry new moon.

June 17, (year not noted). Moon two days old in Leo near a bright star, and 5° from Jupiter. Strong taste was observed from both smaller and larger apparatus. Noticed a continuously rising galvanic skin response from biofeedback equipment although I attempted to relax. No subjective feelings.

October 6, 1984, 9 am. Pointed instrument at Sun-Moon as it was a new moon. Drank the water after 45 minutes exposure. After about 15 minutes I felt peculiar – kind of woozy and unfocused, as if I’d had three glasses of wine. After about 15 minutes this feeling dissipated.

Refilled the sample bottle and after 40 minutes exposure, gave the water to a visitor. She felt “high” in about 10 minutes and the effect disappeared when she swam in the cold ocean water ten minutes later.

VENUS

After the Sun and Moon, Venus was the most predominate planet to study. Effects were noticed in the first years, although no specific notes were made. On several occasions the water tasted metallic I sometimes felt a little giddy, as if I’d had a glass of wine.

One time the exposed water was given to a female friend. She too, experienced some giddiness, and a metallic taste. To test whether or not suggestion could be operating, the following night Venus was again bright and I set up the apparatus, and a few minutes later brought the sample of water to her, exclaiming how brilliant Venus was; that the effect should be very strong and wonderful this nite, etc. Then I let her drink the water, which was plain tap water, and left the room. Returning 30 minutes later I asked her what happened. She said she didn’t notice anything. “Sorry to disappoint you, Buryl, but I didn’t feel anything.”

Some specific comments from my note-books follow:

Jan 12, (year not noted), 5:40 pm. Venus was the highest and brightest for the six month period. There was a slight taste and after drinking the water I felt kind of excited and zippy.

Jan 26, 1980, 6 pm. Pointed the instrument at Venus. The water had a strong taste. (On this date all tests made showed effects – sunspots were on the increase.)

March 19, 1980. Moon was conjunct Venus. No taste in sample water.

August 13, 1980. Arose at 4 am to make a test. Venus was very bright. The water tasted terrible. I went back to sleep and had a sexy dream – a rare event for me.

October 5, 1980, 6 am. Moon was conjunct Venus. It was foggy. There was a noticeable taste difference, but no psycho-physiological effect. I may have pointed the tube incorrectly since I later noticed the telescope used to sight on the planet was slightly out of line with the tube.

November 26, 1984. Moon conjunct both Venus and Jupiter; a lovely sight. I exposed the water for about 20 minutes. Noticed a metallic taste, and about 15 minutes later I felt sad. Just listening to the news on the radio triggered some crying. I had felt kind of quiet and low all day.

November 29, 1986, 5:30 am. Moon conjunct Venus which was very bright at half phase low in the Eastern sky. The Moon was about 4° underneath Venus and 1° South. Made an exposure for 20 minutes. There appeared to be a slight taste just on the surface of the water sample (something I had often noticed – a surface taste only). There were no noticeable psycho-physiological effects.

The test was repeated but with the telescope focused on the Moon which was two days before new. No noticeable taste, but my heart felt sore. Could I be imagining this? Chest area around the heart was not really sore, just much feeling – a tightness. A few minutes later happened to read something which triggered crying.

I would have considered this experience to be personal and irrelevant until I happened to look at my notebook and see the similarity with the test made almost exactly two years before.

JUPITER

Initial observations on Jupiter, especially when Jupiter was close to Earth, produced a taste characteristically different from Venus, Sun, or Moon. On two occasions the water tasted ‘punky’ or ‘swampy’. Only two weeks after these observations Science News carried a report that sulphur had been detected in the radio emissions of Jupiter.

Sometimes the water from Jupiter tasted good and seemed to have a beneficial effect on the drinker. I noticed that a slightly upset stomach cleared up immediately after drinking Jupiter water. One time a pot had been placed for about an hour at the end of the large copper spiral device while Jupiter had been in view.

An associate came into the office about 8 pm, said she wasn’t feeling well – I gave her a glass of Jupiter water to drink without telling her what it was. About 30 minutes later she asked what was in the water. She said she felt better. If this were only one isolated incident, it could have been dismissed, but it happened several times.

JUPITER – SATURN

In 1980 Jupiter and Saturn were within a few degrees of each other. A number of tests were made during this year and some of the observations from my notebook are recorded below:

December 20, 1980. Full Moon Evening. Returned home from a party at 2:40 am, tired and sleepy, especially after a 45 minute car ride. At 3 am I drank the water which had been exposed for 75 minutes to the combined effect of Jupiter and Saturn. No taste was apparent. I took a shower and went to bed, but could not sleep for over one hour – very restless.

December 31, 1980, 5 am. The time of closest approach of Jupiter to Saturn was at 4 pm that afternoon. There was no apparent taste to the water after exposure to emanations of Jupiter and Saturn simultaneously, but afterwards I felt frustrated. I could not definitely say the effect was due to the water which I had drunk, but I was angry, frustrated, upset, and pacing around the room. If it had not been 10° outside I would have gone for a run.

February 16, 1981. Pointed both large and small devices at Jupiter and Saturn. No noticeable effects. But it was hard to be sure of their aim.

February 17, 1981, in the evening. Water did not have any taste, but I felt charged up and eager to work. Stayed up late.

February 18, 1981. Same effect noticed. It was later in the evening when I made the test.

As these planets separated I could easily differentiate between the two with the instrument.

July 9, 1982. First set the scope on Jupiter and found water sample had a very slight taste. Then changed the water sample bottle to be sure there was no contamination, and thoroughly rinsed the end of the funnel. Then the scope was focused on Saturn.

After 20 minutes I observed a distinctly different taste – kind of bitter-metallic. This is a familiar taste observed in the water from these tests, but many controls have shown it is not coming from the metal end of the funnel. Although the tastes were different I didn’t notice any psychophysical reactions from either the Jupiter or the Saturn water on this occasion.

SATURN

April 13, 1981. Aimed the apparatus at the Moon and made a 20 minutes exposure. A clearly different taste was observed compared with the control sample – not a good taste. No noticeable effect on me. Then focused the instrument on Saturn. A clearly different taste was noticed. Muscle testing showed no weakness on Saturn water, yet three observers agreed that there were taste differences between Saturn, the Moon, and the control water.

MARS

June 17, 1980, 9:30 pm. First made a test on the Moon and Jupiter which were conjunct, followed by a test on Mars. Completely different tastes were observed. No psycho-physiological effects noticeable. As a control I pointed the apparatus randomly at the stars. After a 30 minutes exposure, the water exhibited no change in taste.

PLUTO

Jan 12, 6:35 am. (Year not noted.) According to the ephemeris the Moon was conjunct Pluto. It was hazy and the Moon was waning; only 1/4 strong. Left water for 20 minutes. The taste was smokey, not especially a good taste. No noticeable effect, except possibly a little mental fuzziness.

CONTROLS AND OTHER EXPERIMENTS

May 6, 1981. Magnets were placed at the open end of the tube. The apparatus was pointed at the sky. A slight taste was observed after 20 minutes. A control test with no magnets also produced a taste, but less strong. A second control with no magnets again produced a rusty taste. Presumable this was because the funnel was rusty and needed replacing. But a rusty taste had not been noticed before.

May 7, 1981. Left the sample bottle on the apparatus overnight with the South poles of four cylindrical magnets pointing inward. The magnets held themselves in place on the soft iron stove pipe. They were about 1 inch diameter and 5 inches long – estimated field strength several thousand gauss each. A strong taste was noticeable.

Aimed the device at the foggy sky, oriented about 40° up and toward the South-east. Left it for about three hours, during which period, the sky cleared and then refogged. The water had a strong taste.

Leaving the instrument in position, I stuffed the opening with a towel. Three hours later the water tasted the same as a control bottle which had been sitting on a nearby bulkhead.

May 8, 1981. Tastes were noticeable with everything I did today. Magnets at the end of the tube or no magnets, with the tube pointed at the sky, at the Sun, at flowers, at the house. Sunspot activity was at a relative peak on May 8th.

May 17, 1981. I placed distilled water such that light from the telescope would shine in the water and placed a second sample bottle as usual at the end of the funnel. There was no noticeable taste to the water exposed to the light from the tele-scope, but there was a taste in the water from the funnel. This observation was verified by an independent observer as well.

Well water (which has iron in it at my home) produced a much stronger taste (acrid and bitter) than distilled water. Again there was no taste difference noticed in the water exposed at the end of the telescope.

DISCUSSION

Some of the facts which have emerged from this work are listed below:

1. There is some emanation which appears to be originating from the Sun, Moon, and at least some of the planets.
2. The emanations interact with water.
3. The emanations have some connection with solar activity and/or geomagnetic activity.
4. The water is affected. Sometimes it tastes different, and/or sometimes it produces psycho-physiological effects when it is drunk.
5. The effects are different from the different planets.

Since our Sun appears to be a strong source of the emanations, presumably all stars produce similar emanations. Since we are 65% water, drink water, and breathe water vapor along with air, we are presumably being continuously affected by the emanations from the Sun, Moon, planets, and all the stars.

The observation that water exposed to the Sun in the apparatus, made people sleepy was puzzling at first, but seems to it with the common observation that after sun-bathing people become sleepy. Sleep has always been a mystery. It is a very powerful drive. Perhaps this work provides an important bit of new information.

Effects from the planets on water may follow somewhat traditional astrological notions. This does seem to offer a means for validating such notions, but of course it will take some time.

In another experiment I set two glasses of water on two coils of wire pulsed with direct current. Each glass of water was exposed to a different magnetic pole. A third glass served as a control. Taste differences were usually noticeable in the water. Tastes were similar to those observed from some of the planets, however it is difficult to verbalize or categorize tastes.

Magnetic fields have been found to alter chemical reactions. A Swedish company manufactures a magnet treating apparatus for reducing calcium deposits in boilers.

No chemical tests were made on water samples from the instruments described in this paper. It was found that this would be prohibitively expensive.

Water is not a simple substance. Besides the known forms of liquid, solid, and gas, water molecules can form complex loose structures that are not well understood. In liquid form some of the molecules ionize, some form hypermolecules, and probably many other different complex patterns. Biologists speak of “living water” or “structured water”. The dynamics of the living cells may superimpose a structure on water making it suitable for some purpose of which we are unaware. This may be a constantly changing pattern and different within different cells and tissues. Water in the air is different from water in lakes and ponds and rivers which is again different from water in the oceans. Water is the most dynamic compound on the planet.

Magnetic fields may indirectly affect water thru the mechanism of altering the hydrogen proton which is the nucleus of the hydrogen atom. Under the influence of a varying or oscillating magnetic field the hydrogen proton swings to and fro. It gives off a low frequency pulse of around 2700 Hz (called the hydrogen precession frequency). This conceivably could influence events within our bodies or produce some changes at the molecular level. (Payne, 1984)

Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) imaging techniques make use of similar effects. Perhaps protons of other atoms are also affected by geomagnetic storms. Although the effects would be small they could be significant for a biological organism.

At times of heightened sunspot activity, solar flares and events occur on the Sun which increase the solar wind flow and produce turbulence in Earth’s magnetic field. This in turn may alter hydrogen protons within water and other organic compounds and produce subtle heretofore unrecognized effects. Many different researchers have found associations between crimes, riots, accidents, illnesses, psychotic episodes, and wars and solar and planetary magnetic activity. There is also a link between geomagnetic activity and weather. Interactions with the hydrogen proton in high altitude clouds may be an actor in this as well.

SUGGESTIONS FOR FURTHER RESEARCH

Many research topics come to mind and a few are listed below:

1. Is this a different form of energy? Or just a different form of magnetism?
2. Is it unique to living organisms?
3. Can the water exposed to the emanations be stored?
4. Haw can the effects be amplified or increased?
5. Can specific emanations be detected from Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto? From Mercury? From the stars or the galactic center?
6. Many pulsars oscillate at frequencies near those common to the human brain. They also have enormous magnetic fields. Can they produce effects on hydrogen protons?

CONCLUSION

This preliminary work is merely exploratory. There are many variables and unknowns which need to be untangled one by one in some systematic manner if possible. It’s premature to make any definite conclusions at the present time. This could take years of research and is beyond the powers of one person. Therefore it is hoped that others will carry these simple experiments forward in their own creative ways. Since the apparatus is so simple, anyone can make original discoveries. It should be an exciting scientific adventure!

INTRODUCTION

During the months of December 1988 and January 1989, I conducted a series of experiments which yielded results that I believe may add to the existing body of physical orgonomy, or at least may confirm and extrapolate upon certain littler recognized orgonotic phenomena.

The experiments this report will deal with were a direct offshoot from a search for electronic of electro-mechanical OR instrumentation. As the reader will see, it was by sheer chance that I stumbled across the effects described in the following sections.

I cannot over-emphasize the importance of other experimenters duplicating my observations. It must be done. Yet, because a large part of the observed phenomena was dependant upon a singular and rather antique piece of instrumentation, it may be difficult to reproduce my procedures and results verbatim. However, I will try to give as much information as possible to the reader so that he/she may be able to improvise equipment and follow through with experimentation.

THE INITIAL EXPERIMENT

Leading up to what I consider to be the first of my series of experiments, I had been observing the operation of different electronic components inside an ORAC. After observing some interesting charge/discharge phenomena with a capacitor, I thought that it might prove worthwhile to try a coil inside the ORAC. The piece I used was an antenna base coil from a marine radio set. It consisted of 90 turns of bare silvered 18 ga. copper wire wound air core on plastic strips. The windings were spaced. The coil was about 6 inches long and about 1.5 inches wide. The coil was connected via clip leads to an old (pre-1940s) but perfectly functional galvanometer. I then placed the coil inside my ORAC. (7″X7″X7″ ten layer sheet steel/fiber sheet box).

Upon inserting the coil, I observed a slow, steadily increasing deflection of the galvanometer’s needle. After about 20 seconds, the meter reached a maximum reading, and remained steady. Removing the coil from the ORAC caused the needle to drop slowly back to zero. Later calibration of the galvanometer (hereafter referred to as the GV) with a millivolt source and a precision resistor revealed that the level of deflection I witnessed was equal to about 30 microamperes (uA). Yet the behavior of the GV indicated a rather un-electrical nature of the current.

I then tried positioning the coil in different configurations within the ORAC, whereupon I made the following observation:

1. The strongest meter deflection occurred when the coil was placed upright along an inner wall or corner of the ORAC.
2. Flipping the coil end for end would always cause the polarity of the meter deflection to reverse. This reversal was, however, a slow movement as opposed to a quick reversal which one would expect from an electrical current.
3. The polarity seemed to be due to the position of the coil relative to the ORAC. A later experiment using a slightly shorter coil showed that when the coil is positioned horizontally within the ORAC, the current drops to nearly zero.
4. Positioning the coil immediately outside of the ORAC gave similar, though weaker, indications. As the coil was moved further away from the ORAC, the effect diminished further. The effect was no longer noticeable at distances greater than about 3 inches from the ORAC.

At this point, I felt that what I was seeing would have to be divided into 3 different components for any effective analysis:

1. The nature of the current and its coupling or induction into the coil.
2. The characteristics of the conduction of the current.
3. The mechanics of the deflection of the d’Arsonval movement of the GV.

Focusing on one section of my initial set-up at a time, I conducted a series of experiments that included trying various coils, different materials, different meters, etc. The following three sections of this report are a compilation of all of my observations.

COIL / ORAC COUPLING

A number of different coils were tried in place of the original one.

1. Loosely wound helixes of copper wire, with no insulation, and of large diameter, gave best results.
2. The number of turns in a coil did not seem to be as large an influence as other factors. In fact, a single wire loop, or a bare strip of copper worked, though poorly.
3. The polarity effect noticed in the first experiment was observable only with coils. With single loops or metal strips, the polarity seemed almost random.
4. Coils wound on an iron core gave no indication at all.
5. Coils wound on plastic or paper gave slight current indications.
6. Coils with no core or coil form gave best indications.
7. Wire insulation, in all cases, seemed to interfere with the production of the current.

Different ORACs were tried.

1. A 2 layer wood/steel box ORAC, a 6 layer plastic/steel wool cylinder ORAC, and a 10 layer aluminum/fibre sheet cylinder ORAC were used in lieu of the original box ORAC. All gave similar results, though the aluminum/fibre sheet ORAC caused some erratic movement of the GV needle.
2. Flipping ORACs on their sides, or placing them upside down did not seem to make any difference. Current polarity seemed to be totally dependent on the coil position relative to the ORAC.
3. When water in a tin cup was brought near the ORAC, the current reading would drop minutely. Dunking one end of a spare clip lead into the water, and draping the other end into the ORAC, would cause the current to drop faster, usually to zero. I consider this to be a key observation.
4. Number 3 was repeated with a ceramic cup. The same results followed. Upon removal of the water and the clip lead, the current would very slowly come back up.
5. Laying hands upon the ORAC would cause the current to increase, though sometimes only slightly.
6. Moving the coil inside the ORAC, in any direction, would cause the current to momentarily jump and then settle out at a slightly higher level.
7. The highest readings attained with any combination were in the vicinity of 60uA.

CONDUCTION OF THE CURRENT

A number of different conductors were tried besides the original clip leads.

1. Bare single or multi-strand conductors worked best.
2. Soldered connections gave the same results as slip leads. However, old clip leads with the cadmium plating worn off of the clips gave erratic readings.
3. All connections had to be clean and tight.
4. Again, wire insulation seemed to damped the effect.
5. Crossing wires, even when insulated, would sometimes damped the effect.
6. Copper, tinned copper, silver, gold, and lead all conducted the current with equal results.
7. Aluminum, steel, and iron wire seemed to block the current entirely.

Standard carbon resistors of different values were put into the circuit.

1. Resistors put in series would damped the current, though a high ohmage resistor did not seem to cut back the current any more than a low valued one.
2. Resistors put in parallel with the coil or GV would not decrease the measured current, but sometimes did reverse the polarity of the current!

THE GALVANOMETER REACTION

Here lies the portion of my experiments which is the most difficult to explain or present. Quite simply put, I was unable to read any of the aforementioned current effects on any instrument except my antique galvanometer! As I mentioned earlier in this report, the GV was, and is, electrically functional. Using a calibrated millivolt source and a 1.105K ohm resistor, I was able to calibrate the GV, which is unmarked, except for a numerical scale. The meter works.

I have not been able to find any other meter, D’Arsonval or otherwise which will read the currents I observed with the GV. I have tried over 10 different brands of micro-ampere range D’Arsonval style meters with no success. I was also unable to read the currents with either a Fluke or a Simpson digital multi-meter.

After discovering this paradox, my next step was to take the cover off of my GV and examine its construction. Not surprisingly, I found the GV to have a simple, un-shunted, magnet deflected D’arsonval movement almost identical to any of the other meters I tried. I did find one difference, however. The coil of the GVs meter movement is wound without a frame or support, and apparently is held together by its own shellac coating. On all of the other, modern meters I tried, the movement coils are wound on tiny aluminum frames! I believe that it is this aluminum frame which prevents any modern meter from reading the currents I observed.

SUMMARY OF OBSERVATIONS

From these experimental observations, I have drawn the following conclusions:

1. When a helix or loop of copper is placed in or near an ORAC, a current of seemingly un-electrical characteristics is generated or induced within said helix or loop.
2. Upon reaching a given level for a given coil arrangement, the current seems to be a steady state flow with only minor, very slow fluctuations.
3. The current is conducted by soft, diamagnetic metals, and is resisted of blocked by para or ferro-magnetic metals.
4. Organic material, in the form of insulation or carbon resistors, appears to hinder, absorb, or damped the current.
5. The un-electrical current is able to develop a reaction force with a magnetic field, and cause a deflection of certain un-shielded D’arsonval meter movements.
6. The level of current induced or generated within the helix or loop varies with the responses of the enclosing ORAC to classical external orgonotic stimuli.

CONCLUSION

It is obvious that the experimenter will have to use some ingenuity in duplicating my observations. The old galvanometer I used has no nameplate or manufacturers data on it. There are probably a number of similar units “out there”, though. One could possibly find a responsive GV at an electronics surplus store, or an antique shop. Another option would be to build a coil/magnet arrangement based on a D’arsonval meter movement. A design that I believe might work is shown in figure A. I have not yet tried it though.

I believe that these observations may give some insight into two areas of orgonomy which have apparently been somewhat neglected:

1. The development of accurate OR instrumentation.
2. The re-development of the OR driven motor.

It is my hope that those who read this report will be able to duplicate my observations and carry out further investigations in this area of orgonomy.

UPDATE ON THE COIL / ORAC EFFECT

(24 April 1990)

1. The COIL / ORAC EFFECT device was tried out in February 1989 and did indeed work, although the deflection was quite small. Several other variations of this device were tired, however none of them have indications of current which were any better than the original.
2. Around March of 1989, the Coil / ORAC effect began to diminish, and eventually “went dead”. Different ORACs were tried, along with variations in wiring. Nothing seemed to make a difference. However, around November of 1989, I tried out the coil and galvanometer arrangement with a newly constructed 20 fold steel and fiber sheet box ORAC. The Effect was once again present, and back to levels of current readings corresponding to those observed originally. The Effect is currently active, and further experimental work with it is continuing as time permits.
3. The main thrust of my experimental work is currently in the area of amplifying the Coil / ORAC Effect to higher, more useful levels. Sadly, I have had no real success so far. More reports will eventually be generated regarding these experiments.
4. There is no doubt, at least to this experimenter, that the Coil / ORAC Effect is the Orgone Motor Effect of Wilhelm Reich. However, without a means of amplification, which would functionally correspond to Reich’s “Y” factor, the effect remains a subtle, marginally measurable entity.

“There is no proof. There are no authorities whatever. No president, Academy, Court of Law, Congress or Senate on this earth has the knowledge or power to decide what will be the knowledge of tomorrow. There is no use in trying to prove something that is unknown to somebody who is ignorant of the unknown, or fearful of its threatening power. Only the good old rules of learning will eventually bring about understanding of what has invaded our earthly existence.”

The invasion that Reich refers to in his introduction to CONTACT WITH SPACE is the invasion of earth by intelligences from outer space. Very few copies of this remarkable book were made available, and Reich’s extraordinary experiences during this turbulent period have been swept under the carpet by ‘orthodox’ orgonomy.

To speak openly of UFO experiences still invites ridicule or polite smiles of disbelief. Consider then the atmosphere of the mid 1950′s when Reich was not only claiming the existence of space visitors, but carefully documenting his battle with these ‘invaders’, while developing his now well-known cloudbusting techniques.

Reich termed the space craft Ea – ‘E’ standing for ‘Energy’, ‘a’ for alpha or primordial. Ea also represented ‘Enigma’…

“Ea is a new event without precedent in our lives,” he writes. “Humanity, with the exception of a few philosophers, had no idea of the possibility of visitors from outer space. Earthman had not developed any view, method or scientific tool to cope with the problem. In addition he has developed in his offspring a character structure and a kind of thinking which obstructs the approach to the new fact by way of ridicule, slander and outright threat to the existence of the pioneer of space engineering. Therefore our new approach must start from scratch, as if no science existed at all.”

Reich’s ability to ‘start from scratch’ had characterized his revolutionary approach to psychoanalysis early in his career, long before he left the restrictive climate of Europe to pursue his ideas in ‘free’ America. He is best known for his research into the fundamental life-energy and for his controversial methods of sex therapy. His greatest contribution to real science was his discovery (or re- discovery) of what he called ‘orgone’, the life energy at the very roots of existence. Blockages in the free flow of this energy in the individual caused ‘character armoring’ which inhibited the spontaneous expression of joy and pleasure in life. The nature of this cosmic energy, depending on circumstances, functioned either as a ‘life giving, life furthering, and reproductive force (OR), or in the absence of such conditions, turns into a killer of Life (DOR).”

During his orgonomic research Reich was able to measure this orgone energy and he successfully treated many patients in the orgone accumulator, a specially layered box wherein the life-energy was concentrated. It was this unorthodox method of treatment which brought down the wrath of the Food and Drug Administration upon Reich, an attack which finally secured his imprisonment, and death, in a federal penitentiary.

“Orgone energy does not exist,” the FDA officials said to the Judge. Having declared that Cosmic Energy did not exist, it was obvious that its discoverer must either be a “quack” or a “lunatic”. That, after all, is the rationale of orthodox, mechanistic science chained to its conceptions of a dead universe.

For Reich, the Universe was very much alive and his approach to scientific research was functional, taking into account the subjective perceptions and emotions of the researcher. After all, he writes, “Classical knowledge may all be wrong, such with the perfect Copernican circles, the ellipses of Kepler, the empty space of Einstein, the airgerms of Pasteurian bacteriologists, the atomic nature of the Universe, etc. To see new things from scratch, to expect the impossible to be true, belongs to the emotional equipment of the true pioneering scientist.”

“We shall no longer hang on to the tails of public opinion or to a non- existent authority on matters utterly unknown and strange. We shall gradually become experts ourselves in the mastery of the knowledge of the Future.”

THE FIRST CONTACT

“From the historic Oranur Experiment of 1951, Reich knew that nuclear radioactivity had a deleterious effect upon the living sea of energy in which we all live. From the observations made of the reaction of a milligram of radium put inside an Orgone Energy Accumulator, Reich knew that there was an antagonistic relationship between the energy of life (Ether, Prana, etc…) and the manmade nuclear energy so recently unleashed upon the planet. The effect of the nuclear ‘irritant’ seemed all out of proportion to the physical amount of radioactive material. The distance of this irritating and wildly exciting Orgone anti-Nuclear effect seemed to reach much farther than the actual radioactivity of the nuclear material would indicate. Perhaps, Reich reasoned, the Orgone Energy was a continuum; and this anti-nuclear reaction of the life energy (Oranur) extended and perpetuated itself in a chain reaction fashion far beyond the original limits of the nuclear radiation.” (1)

The development of the Cloudbuster was a response to the aftermath of the Oranur Experiment. Around Reich’s Oranur laboratory near Rangeley, Maine, the atmosphere became polluted with DOR (Deadly Orgone Radiation). The black and bleak DOR clouds were remarkably similar to what would later be called air pollution or smog. These clouds were present even in the midst of sunshine, and where they gathered the atmosphere felt ‘suffocating’, the sky seemed to lose its sparkle and animals and humans felt lethargy and other symptoms of malaise.

Not only were the DOR clouds a noxious presence, but a black powdery substance poured down onto the area, a substance that Reich came to directly associate with the presence of Ea in the skies above Rangeley. It was here that UFOs began to appear, big yellow and reddish pulsating ‘stars’ which were easily discernible from the planets and bluish colored fixed stars.

Previous to this Reich had no experience with UFOs and had never studied the subject. Now he was faced with a direct confrontation. Some nights there would be 3 or 4 Ea hanging in the sky above Orgonon. They would make the atmosphere black, but by mobilizing the cloudbuster Reich was able to clear the air and make the sky blue again. It was under these peculiar conditions that the ‘Spacegun’ came into existence, and the war with Ea began.

“I made actual contact by way of the cloudbuster with luminous objects in the sky on May 12, 1954…During this hour men on earth saw for the first time in the history of man and his science two “Stars” to the west fade out several times when cosmic energy was drawn from them.” “Easy contact was made on that fateful day with what obviously turned out to be a heretofore unknown type of UFO. I had hesitated for weeks to turn my cloudbuster pipes toward a “star”, as if I had known that some of the blinking lights hanging in the sky were not planets or fixed stars but SPACE machines. With the fading out of the two “stars”, the cloudbuster had suddenly changed into a SPACEGUN…what had been left of the old world of human knowledge after the discovery of the OR energy 1936-40 tumbled beyond reprieve. Nothing could any longer be considered ‘impossible’. I had directed drawpipes, connected with the deep well toward an ordinary star, and the star had faded out four times.”

Reich had first hesitated on using the spacegun on the Ea, considering the possibility of them being some kind of American craft, but the situation became so intolerable with the noxious OR influence, that he finally decided to. He found the power of the Oranur Spacegun tremendous due to the sensitivity of the OR energy ocean. The energy equilibrium of Ea could be disturbed or even put out of order by withdrawing energy from it directly. The affected Ea seemed at first to struggle, pulsating erratically, then shrink and even fade out completely. But the space visitors seemed to be retaliating by increasing the DOR pollution in the vicinity.

“There was no doubt left as to the purposefulness of the activities of Ea: Energy was being drawn from the planet, with the consequences known now, 1956, far and wide as ‘DOR-emergency’; decay of vegetation, the crumbling of granite rock, a feverish atmosphere. OR energy laws, mostly unknown to us earthmen, were used technically in the Ea operations.”

A detailed report on the Ea problem was forwarded to the American Air Force who appeared to be ‘burningly interested’ in the subject, but not particularly surprised.

To further test the correlations between Ea and the desert forming DOR, Reich and the cloudbuster crew made their preparations to go to the fully developed desert, and the OROP Desert Expedition was underway.

SURVEY ON Ea

A simple chart Reich made to differentiate between stars and UFOs hovering high in the sky. Certain facts about the appearance of the UFOs such as their noiselessness, their shimmering lights, sometimes bluish in appearance, rotating discs underlying their motion, fell into place with some of the facts Reich knew well from cosmic OR functioning:

1. The ‘CORE MEN’ (CORE = COSMIC ORGONE ENGINEERS), as he came to call them, apparently were thoroughly conversant with the laws of functioning in the cosmic OR energy ocean.
2. They used cosmic OR energy in propelling their machines.
3. Their ‘blue lights’ were in agreement with the blue color characteristic of all visible OR functions, sky, protoplasm, Aurora, sunspots, the color of OR lumination in vacor tubes, etc.
4. The CORE MEN were obviously riding their space ships on the main OR energy streams in the Universe.
5. Just as space is not empty, light does not ‘come down to us from the stars and the sun’. It is an effect of lumination in the OR energy envelope of the planets. It is a local phenomenon.

Therefore, there is theoretically no limit to speed in cosmic space, and the Ea were able to achieve tremendous speeds.

DEADLY ORGONE RADIATION

Driving across country to Arizona where the expedition would make its base, Reich closely observed the atmospheric conditions. DOR tended to concentrate over cities and became more pronounced as they entered the desert regions. Here it was observed to sink down into the valleys and hover low over the landscape like a ceiling. The tops of distant mountain ridges were seen to project clearly above the DOR shell, like islands above the ocean, and on these peaks the primal vegetation was still alive; while the lower vegetation, covered by the low-lying DOR blanket, died off, leaving only desert in the valleys – especially in the areas near atomic testing sites.

Reich described the mountain ranges as being “eaten out”, gnawed at by DOR as if a monster were feeding on the rock itself. The DOR functions were characterized by “a silent, invisible and inaudible gnawing away and insidious consumption of the life force of a host or organism.”

“The process of disintegration of trees and whole forests is due to progressive DOR prevalence in the atmosphere. A slight DOR prevalence causes dryness, dryness in turn increases DOR. Thus, in a vicious circle, the water-hunger grows together with diminishing precipitation. The process is slow and not easily discernible. Not much is known about its secret attrition of life.”

“It has great significance for the mastery of our future, that DOR surplus causes deserts in the landscape as it does in the organism. Desert souls will enhance desert development; and desert development will increase DOR or staleness in human emotions.”

DOR is hungry for nourishment, for water, for oxygen. As the DOR increases it vampirizes its host, in this case the abundant life energy indigenous to the planet.

Reich observes that “the pestilential character shows the same type of behavior. He saps juicy, emotionally rich people, deprives them of their strength, akin to the behavior of a tapeworm, within the host victim. The pestilential character thrives on the energy loss in the victim, but in the end he perishes with the host. From here to sociological conclusions regarding the secret dynamics of political dictatorship is only a logical step: from here, too, a bridge can be built toward understanding the connection between desert development on our planet and visitors from outer space. These visitors are using fresh cosmic energy for their locomotion and pour the slag, DOR, into our atmosphere. Whether this is being done on purpose or by accident does not matter as far as the effects upon life are concerned.”

Reich foresaw the complete destruction of life upon mother earth looming on the horizon, unless DOR energy could be reverted again into OR or Life Energy.

OROP DESERT Ea (1954-55)

“Life holds only a narrow wedge as its own domain in the infinite vastness of cosmic energy.”

The desert around Tucson Arizona was chosen for Operation OROP, one of the hottest and oldest deserts (25,000 years) of the U.S. There was no primary vegetation growing; there had been no rain for five years. By October, 1954, the base was operating.

It was not the primary objective of the expedition to “make rain over rainless desert”. Reich had no ambition to impress anyone with rain making. Rather he wanted to find the borderline where their artificial efforts at a new atmospheric technology could end “and be replaced by the self-regulatory, self-sustaining laws that governed the behavior of cloud formation, rain cycles, cosmic energy metabolism in the atmosphere, etc, as they do in the living organism.”

He had observed that the living organism apparently metabolizes freshly taken in OR energy into DOR, which is expelled in the form of CO2, urine, feces and sweat. In the healthy organism the energy equilibrium between the charge and the discharge was easily maintained, however, during sickness more OR seemed to change into DOR. Thus, Reich concluded, a prevalence of DOR would be a basic feature of all disease.

Subjectively Reich and his co-workers experienced the DOR atmosphere in the desert as oppressive and irritating, with the blinding heat seeming to draw the juice and life energies out of their bodies.

“Thus, having seen and felt the desert, Expedition OROP proceeded to begin cloudbuster operations, in order to find out whether such a climate could be changed.”

“With cloudbusting operations, much DOR was removed and fresh Orgone Energy was brought in from the Southwest (along the Galactic Orgone Stream). The immediate result was a freshening of the atmosphere and environment: gone was the parching dryness and gone was the blinding whiteness of the sky. Rainmaking was not the goal; in fact, noticeable results occurred prior to any rain falling on the dry, sandy desert floor. By November, the barren desert north of Tucson began to turn green with a fine growth of new grass! In December, the greening of the desert had spread to cover an area 40 to 80 miles from Tucson with new grass up to one foot high! This happened without any rain falling, due solely to the fresh atmospheric Life Energy and attendant moisture from the Pacific Ocean, 250-400 miles to the Southwest.”(1)

The arrival of denatured Radium (ORUR), from the Oranur experiment at Rangeley dramatically increased the effectiveness of the cloudbusting operations. “While the clearing of the atmosphere had previously been done by drawing off the DOR clouds into a lake, now, within a few seconds, using ORUR material, the sky cleared and became blue…The change in the atmosphere was immediately felt by all observers. Even dirty steel-gray, DOR-affected rain clouds seemed to fill up and become white in a brilliant, formerly dull, stale atmosphere.”

However, Ea were also observing the operations. Whenever the familiar pulsating craft were seen in the sky, the rain clouds disappeared and severe DOR infested the atmosphere, making conditions extremely unpleasant for the crew. If the Spacegun was not used, the atmosphere became unbearable. One operator at a Spacegun was paralyzed by DOR while drawing from an Ea. Reich wrote: “There was no escape from the fact that we were at war with a power unknown to man on earth.”

But the ORUR was found to be extremely effective in combatting the Ea menace. “One could now reach far into space with ORUR: the range was limitless theoretically, since the OR energy ocean is endless and most sensitive to stimuli as demonstrated by the processes of dawn, dusk, and our actual operations over vast stretches of space.”

Another DOR-creating problem was atomic testing within the desert region. Reich was later to consider the possibility of immunizing the atmosphere against atomic explosions, much as living systems are immunized against infection. By creating a highly ‘orurized’ atmosphere, he reasoned, the DOR energy from atomic blasts or from Ea could be siphoned off. It was noticed that during the ORUR operations, there were ‘coincidentally’ many publicly announced postponements of atomic tests.

It became apparent to Reich that although there was moisture in the atmosphere, the lack of actual rainfall around Tucson was due to a DOR barrier somewhere west of the experimental site in Arizona, preventing the clouds and moisture flowing in from the Pacific. The barrier was found to exist on the Sierra mountain divide, where a concentration of DOR was breaking up and dissolving the rain clouds coming in from the west.

By March 1955, continuous DOR removal operations were set up just to the west of the divide. Within two weeks the barrier was breaking up with a black precipitate form of DOR (“Melanor”) falling to the ground and turning the white sand dark. By the end of March rain began to occur in the desert. The breaking of the DOR barrier had accomplished the full breakthrough of fresh OR energy into the desert basin.

The expedition was successful. The atmosphere had undergone a radical change, breaking a five year drought and turning completely barren desert land into green pasture again after thousands of years.

It proved conclusively to Reich that desert development was clearly and doubtlessly reversible, that through a new kind of orgone technology, humanity could convert life-destroying energy back into life-sustaining energy.

Winding up his affairs, Reich left the desert in April 1955. It was to be his last major operation. Within two years he was to die in prison, destroyed by a system that could not tolerate the free expression of live-giving energy. But the Enigma remains…

Nuclear technology of death from the tribe of Einstein, Oppenheimer, Sakharov and Teller was deployed in the desert in July of 1945 at Alamogordo, New Mexico. Within two years of the advent of this realization of the death formula (E = MC²), the living planet Earth was being reconnoitered by unknown numbers of aliens whose origins, purposes and intents remain a mystery. Whether as guardians, brothers, predators, scavengers, parasites, landlords or foremen – the space creatures have been observed (along with their craft) continuously since the beginning of atomic explosions on Earth. Not proving (there is no “proof”) a causal relationship between atomic explosions on Earth and the advent of UFO sightings, the coincidental relationship is there. It is “proved” that atomic explosions begin to occur in July of 1945. It is “proved” that reports of observations of flying saucers and other UFOs are being received in unprecedented numbers by the “authorities” commencing no later than June of 1947.

Let’s look at an experiment which had as its goal the relationship between the living energy of life and the nuclear technology of death. To possibly utilize the effects of Orgone Energy upon the human organism as an antidote to nuclear radiation sickness was ostensibly the goal of the Oranur Experiment. (Oranur: Orgone Anti Nuclear). IN THIS ARTICLE, THE AUTHOR IMPLIES NO HEALING OR BENEFICIAL EFFECT OR PROPERTIES FROM ORGONE ENERGY, ORGONE ENERGY ACCUMULATORS OR DEVICES. FOR HISTORICAL AND INFORMATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY IS THE STORY OF THE ORANUR EXPERIMENT BEING TOLD.

Friday, January 5, 1951: Wilhelm Reich M.D. puts one milligram of pure radium inside a 20 layer Orgone Energy Accumulator. For five hours the radium remains inside the life energy charging device. During the next seven days the process is repeated for one hour per day; the one milligram of pure radium is placed inside the 20 layer Orgone Accumulator. On Friday, January 12, the radium was removed from the Orgone charging device after only one half hour and the experiment was stopped.

It was on the last day of the experiment that the most dramatic effect occurred. The observers were outside the student’s laboratory where the metal lined Orgone Room housing the powerful 20 layer Orgone Energy Accumulator was located. While one experimental milligram of pure radium served as a control and was kept far away in an unused building on Reich’s 280 acre farm; the other milligram of pure radium was placed inside the life energy charging device. We must remember that there was a war going on, the Korean War, and Reich and his associates were conducting this research partly in response to the threat of a nuclear conflict demanding some sort of antidote to radiation sickness. Therefore the experiment had as its goal the discovery of a possible anti nuclear property of the newly discovered Life Energy.

The “normal” background count of “radioactivity” at Reich’s laboratory in Western Maine where a dozen people lived and worked was 30 – 50 counts per minute measured on the big 4096 Tracerlab Autoscaler. The background of radioactivity within an Orgone Accumulator measured with a portable SU-5 Tracerlab Survey Meter, type 6C5, was 40 – 70 cpm. In other words, with no nuclear material present, the concentration of Life Energy within a charging device caused the Geiger Counter to give a higher reading; about 40% higher.

Once the Oranur Experiment had started, once the concentrated Life Energy had been exposed to the radioactive nuclear material – the background count at Reich’s laboratory climbed to approx. 80 cpm and would not immediately subside even when the nuclear material was removed from the Orgone Accumulator.

The radioactivity of a one milligram unit of radium had been calibrated at 16,000 cpm (8.3 Roentgens per hour). This was done in New York City, away from the highly charged atmosphere of Reich’s setup near Rangeley, Maine. The two units of Radium arrived on Jan. 5, 1951 and immediately they were measured unshielded at one centimeter distance and gave a reading of 254,760 cpm in the highly charged atmosphere near the various Orgone Accumulators. One milligram unit was secured as a control and not exposed further to the charging effect of the Orgone devices. The other milligram was placed inside the 20 layer Orgone Accumulator in the metal lined Orgone Room in the students laboratory. While the radium was within the charging device, accurate measurement was not possible because the instrument, the SU-5 Survey Meter would either race right off the scale or go completely dead. Away from the active experiment, the instrument resumed normal operation.

The fateful Friday, January 12 – again the milligram of pure radium is placed inside the Life Energy device and again the observers feel the amplified radiation effects: severe nausea, loss of equilibrium, pressure in the forehead, sensations of fainting, severe headache, hot and cold flashes, severe belching: all these symptoms were observed and experienced by the one dozen or so physicians and technicians present during the 5 month course of the experiment. Additionally each observer was affected by a recurrence of any old or dormant injury or disease condition varying according to each individual’s weakest spot. It was as if the effect of the reaction of the concentrated Life Energy to the nuclear irritant was to attack each living organism in its weakest area (a converse relationship to the observed pattern of the effect of a “normal” Orgone Accumulator which seemed to strengthen or benefit the weak areas within the Organism; of course for our purposes there is no healing, beneficial or medical implication here).

The last time that the radium was placed inside the 20 layer Accumulator was to prove so dramatic that for fear of possible consequences, the experiment was stopped. The observers (Wilhelm Reich, Dr. Simon Tropp & others) were standing outside in the cold afternoon of January 12. They could see through the large picture windows the atmosphere inside the student’s lab become clouded within minutes after they had placed the unshielded milligram of radium inside the Life Energy charger. The clouded atmosphere was starting to move visibly and was shining blue and purple ! The men became quite ill from nausea, loss of balance, cramps in the stomach – all this from one milligram of radium over 300 feet distant. Never before had symptoms of radiation sickness been so strong or had they been felt at such a great distance from the physical setup of the experiment.

The experiment was stopped in that the radioactive material was no longer placed inside the Life Energy charging device. The effects from the experiment continued and they intensified. It was quite unbearable to be near any Orgone Accumulator on the premises. It was as if the Oranur effect had spread and affected all of the Life Energy charging devices located at Reich’s extensive laboratory comprising two large and several smaller buildings. All of the Orgone devices exhibited exorbitantly high Geiger Counter readings and produced symptoms of radiation sickness in nearby observers. A large batch of 30 experimental mice died from exposure to this Orgone Anti Nuclear effect even though the mice were never physically close to any nuclear material. Thorough autopsies on the mice revealed a leukemia like blood picture. The reaction seemed to be self sustaining and was spreading. In response to the severity of the Oranur effect, all of the Orgone Accumulators were physically dismantled and their component parts were separated. The metal lined Orgone Room was dismantled. This measure of turning off the Orgone Accumulators (there is no switch to an Orgone device); this dismantling of the Orgone devices seemed to reduce the background counts of radioactivity from their levels of 80 cpm and above. It was noticed that reassembling even one Orgone charging device would immediately cause the background radiation measurements to approximately double. The experimental radium was secured within its 1/2″ lead shield and placed inside a 4″ steel and concrete safe located in a small wooden building some distance from the main laboratory.

What had been learned from this experiment? Basically, the presence of a strong concentration of Orgone Energy seems to amplify and magnify the radiation from a nuclear source. The New York Times reported on February 3, 1951 of an Atomic Energy Commission announcement of an increase in background radiation comprising an area of 600 miles in radius with its approximate center located Northern New England. It is likely that Reich’s Oranur Experiment with one milligram of radium had affected an area of 1,130,900 square miles.

On April 15, Reich decided to check on the experimental one milligram of radium which was still housed in its l/2″ lead shield inside the 4″ thick steel and concrete safe. At a distance of 40 centimeters from the safe wall the reading was a fantastic 20,000 cpm on the SU-5 Survey meter. Reich was fearful of the radium and the continuing Oranur effect. He placed a group of mice in a cage quite near the safe housing the radium and waited for several days. The experimental mice remained in perfect health even though the radiation counts were abnormally high. It was as if the Oranur effect had changed and was no longer harmful even though the Geiger counter gave high readings. Now Reich made a daring move that was to yield a rich harvest of new knowledge: He opens the safe and takes a measurement of the interior space inside the safe – the reading is over 100,000 cpm. He removed the milligram of radium from the steel and concrete safe and rushed it to the main laboratory. Here he measured it with the big and sensitive 4096 Tracerlab Autoscaler with a countertube of a mica window thickness of 2.3 mg/cm² as opposed to the SU-5 Survey Meter with its countertube of a mica window thickness of 30 mg/cm² wall thickness. (This means the 4096 Autoscaler was approx ten times more sensitive than the SU-5 Survey Meter) At a distance of one centimeter with no shielding the milligram of radium gave a reading of only 30,000 cpm! To explain this puzzling observation it was slowly realized that the 4″ steel and concrete safe acted as an Orgone Accumulator itself due to its layering of steel and the organic material of concrete.

The nuclear radioactivity was confined within its lead shielding but the Orgone Energy was not confined, since the Life Energy passes through all materials – only at different speeds. Thus there was not a strong Oranur reaction when the nuclear material was within lead shielding inside the safe. The Oranur reaction was controlled as it were. The Orgone Energy could affect the nuclear source since the Orgone passed through lead; the radium could not irritate the concentrated Orgone field because the radiation was stopped by lead. Perhaps a way had been found to denature the harmful effects of the nuclear material. By placing the nuclear source first in lead shielding; and then placing the lead container within an Orgone Accumulator – in this way the Orgone Energy can get at the nuclear material but the radioactive material cannot affect the Orgone. After this process had been carried out for a period of time (months), a diminution effect was noted in the reaction of the Orgone treated nuclear material on exposure to a strong Life Energy field. In the next issue of the Journal of Borderland Research we will discuss Reich’s invention of the cloudbuster to combat an unexpected side effect of the Oranur Experiment; and we will examine use of this denatured milligram of radium (ORUR) to amplify the effect of the cloudbuster.

A more complete history of the Oranur Experiment is found in Selected Writings by Wilhelm Reich, published by Farrar, Straus & Giroux ISBN 0-374-50197-l. Briefly: the Oranur Experiment illustrated the nature of radiation sickness as being a reaction of the Life Energy against the nuclear irritant. Shielding is not possible against the Oranur effect because Orgone Energy penetrates all matter. Once the Oranur effect begins, it spreads in a chain reaction fashion to infect areas not originally exposed to the nuclear material. The Oranur effect produces symptoms of radiation sickness generally and within individuals reactivates any latent disease or weakness found in each particular organism. There are possibilities of antidotal uses of the Oranur effect as a preventive measure to “inoculate” the organism against radiation sickness such as might be expected in nuclear war. Of course we realize that these medical implications are being discussed for experimental purposes only in the light of historical curiosity in our examination of Reich’s most famous experiment. In no way is it suggested that anyone try to replicate this dangerous experiment !

Thus with the living planet Earth, the atomic explosions inaugurated by Oppenheimer and his ilk in 1945 have initiated an Oranur effect extending far out into space. From Reich’s pioneering efforts, we know that the Oranur effect does not follow the inverse square law of radiation propagation. The concentrated Life Energy reaction against one milligram of radium was reported to extend for 600 miles. A small 1945 atomic blast of 20 Kilotons released 500,000 Roentgens of gamma radiation in .01 seconds. In the same time, a milligram of radium releases .000023055 Roentgens of gamma. The distance for the Oranur effect from the milligram of radium was 600 miles. A proportional distance from the 500,000 Roentgens (Oranur effect, not inverse square wave propagation) is two light years. From this rough calculation, we can expect other inhabitants of our larger environment who are more attuned to Life Energy functions – we can expect others to take notice from a long ways away of our malicious nuclear technology.

A genuine NEW AGE SCIENCE and access TO UNLIMITED ENERGY will continue to elude mankind unless we finally take seriously the plea for scientific rationality made by the profound natural researcher, Wilhelm Reich. He stated emphatically over 30 years ago:

“It must be decided whether nature is an ‘empty space with a few widely scattered specks’ or whether it is a space full of cosmic primordial energy, a continuum that functions dynamically and obeys a generally valid law of nature.”

Official science, which sinks deeper and deeper into the morass of particle physics and nuclear energy technology every year, has ignored and continues to ignore this challenge. Let us not delude ourselves into thinking that a scientism which clings to a multitude of wrongheaded theories with a tenacity and vehemence worthy of the religious fanatics of the Inquisition, will listen to any heretic who seeks to breathe life energy into their barren, abstract universe. Furthermore, let us not waste our valuable time in the vain attempt to exorcise the irrationality in Official Science. Instead our earnest efforts; in my opinion, should be to lay a firm foundation of New Knowledge on which a life-affirmative science and technology can be constructed.

Fortunately, thanks to the extensive investigation of and experimentation with primary, mass-free energy by certain of our predecessors, the cornerstones and a solid base for continuum physics are already in existence. Therefore, whether we become conversant with continuum physics through the works of Reich, Lehrs, Steiner, etc., our orientation will be the same, i.e., the formation of the Universe from the tangible, demonstrable functions of primordial energy. The advantage that we enjoy over official science is that whereas it is unable to see the forest for the trees, we, on the contrary, clearly see the entire forest. We can proceed, from this grand overview, to study the attributes of each tree in relation to and in the context of the whole.

On the one hand official science has amassed tons of unconnected and unrelated facts that fill entire libraries to the brim and which boggle the-mind. However, an insignificant amount of real knowledge has been achieved by all of this compulsive data mongering, because the hallmark of mechanistic researchers is their perverse penchant for taking everything apart. Each piece of the dissected world is assigned an expert who then literally analyses his particular fragment to death. Afterward, try as they may, they are never again able to imbue their mutilated, distorted corpses with life.

NEW AGE SCIENCE HAS NO “AUTHORITIES”

On the other hand, we, the fabricators of New Knowledge, are never satisfied with the false equation: unrelated facts = knowledge. We avoid this pitfall because our facts are derived from physical observation, not from abstruse mathematical formulation. Our data is verified by controlled experiments, not ad hoc experiments specifically devised to bolster “official science” prejudices. This New Knowledge can then be integrated into a theoretical framework that embodies the essence — not the mechanistic Weltanshaung — of natural processes.

There are no “authorities” in New Age Science. This point cannot be emphasized too strongly since we have, from earliest childhood on, been indoctrinated with the authoritarian precepts of our civilization. Many of us have the erroneous notion that only approval and endorsement of our research by accredited, recognized pillars of the scientific community will confer value and credence on our labors. The fact is that today the value and credence of official science is under close, critical scrutiny. Tragically, billions upon billions of the unenlightened public’s dollars are being allocated to prop up a science that is bankrupt. It’s primary function seems to be to grind out a more and more life-inimical technology. Therefore it is our responsibility to continue to make concrete scientific inroads. Let us always keep in mind that authority in New Age Science is that acquired by work and actual achievements.

New Age Science makes definite and sometimes strenuous demands on those engaged in research. Needless to say, the methodology of observation, hypothesis, experimentation and theory formation is strictly adhered to. A working knowledge of physics, biology, chemistry, psychology, meteorology, etc. — an overview of all the disciplines, is a prerequisite. Natural processes are characterized by their interconnectedness. New Knowledge fully comprehends this innate harmony and unity. Orthodox science splits the Universe into nature culture, body-mind, instinct-intellect, physics-biology, etc. because it lacks a fundamental understanding of the whole. Unfortunately, the majority of persons with a traditional education, that is, compartmentalized, specialized learning, will find it difficult to change their mentation. Nevertheless, participation in New Age Science is unthinkable without such a change.

We, the members of a sophisticated, technological society, associate basic natural research with large, well-funded institutions and teams of specialists and technicians. We tend to equate advances in empirical knowledge with the use of complex experimental paraphernalia and with the expenditure of vast sums of money.

THE ORTHODOX VIEW OF HUMAN HELPLESSNESS MUST BE SHATTERED

The view of nature proffered by official science is so obscure and muddled that it is now tacitly assumed that only geniuses and mathematicians can have access to basic truths. This image of human helplessness is shattered by New Age achievements. While an organization, experimental apparatus and funding have merit, they are merely secondary adjuncts. The primary instrument in New Age Science — continuum physics — life-energy research — is the scientist himself. his/her physical structure is the sieve through which the tangible, physical expressions of natural processes must pass.

The mechanistic scientist rejects the contention that subjective impressions can disclose objective realities. He insists that the observer and the object of investigation must be controlled by a rigorous experimental method. He completely distrusts his sensations. That is, sad to say, a rational standpoint because the Sixth Sense is really the First Sense. This is more accurately referred to as the orgonotic-energetic first sense by Wilhelm Reich, the one which gives us the physiological perception of the movement of plasmotic currents, the life energy within our organism. This has atrophied in our civilization.

No amount of experimental gadgetry or control can ever hope to improve the sensitivity of the scientist to life energy functions, natural laws. Therefore the revitalization and the subsequent cultivation of the First Sense is crucial for everyone involved in New Age Science.

Since the truly awesome discoveries of Reich and other New Age pioneers were the direct result of the accurate subjective perception of objective reality, our trust and reliance in the open, vital bioenergetic organism is justified.

“In order to investigate nature we must literally love the object of our investigation. In the language of orgone biophysics, we must have direct and undisturbed orgonotic contact with the object of our investigation.” W. Reich

Official science defines a cloud as being: a mass of water particles, sufficiently numerous to see. in the liquid or frozen state which is formed by the chilling of water vapor below the dew point, i.e., the point in the cooling process at which condensation just begins. Cloud formation is viewed as a mechanical process.

The extant New Age Science of Orgonomy (Orgonomy is the natural science of the orgone energy, the name given to the primordial cosmic energy by its discoverer, Wilhelm Reich) defines the cloud as: a combination of concentrated orgone energy and water vapor. Cloud formation is recognized as being a functional process, the specifics of which are:

1. Attraction – An area or pocket of concentrated orgone energy forms in the otherwise evenly distributed orgone energy of the atmospheric envelope. This pocket has arisen due to a more intense excitation by the sun. The pulsation of the orgone energy increases. An area of strong OR potential — orgonomic potential has developed. (Orgonomic potential is Negentropy.) It is the unifying, binding creative principle in nature; whereas the mechanical potential dictates that a high energy level will lose energy to a low energy level — Entropy — as in heat and electricity. The orgonomic potential, on the contrary, reverses this process and is governed by an energy flow from the weaker to the stronger system. There occurs now a confluence of orgone energy from the surrounding, weaker level — the general OR energy continuum — toward the higher, stronger system.
2. Charge – Water readily attracts and holds the orgone energy and vice versa. Concentrated atmospheric OR energy and water vapor combine and form a cloud.
3. Growth – The cloud grows and expands. It will continue to grow as long as there is sufficient water vapor in the vicinity and the influx of OR energy persists. The size, density and cohesion of the cloud is strictly governed by the orgone energy content.

CONTROLLING OR WITH THE VISUAL RAY

I thought back to the cloud that had formed at the pocket in the sky where my gaze had focussed. The idea that came to mind was this: The human being is a strong orgonotic-energetic system. The organism grows and consistently maintains a higher temperature than the environment because it is able to attract and hold more orgone energy than it loses. The organism is surrounded by an orgone energy field. This field expands and contracts, it pulsates, narrows and widens in harmony with internal bioenergetic excitation. It is truly a sixth sense which functions at a distance within and through the OR energy continuum.

Was it possible, perhaps because of the strong state of vigor or charge that I felt that the visual ray had excited an area of atmospheric Or energy? After all, it had already been observed by me that the focus of the visual ray — which is a modified OR energy field — on the OR field surrounds a metal sphere increases the pulsation. The appearance of the cloud on the spot could, of course, have been just a coincidence. However, the formation of a cloud seemed to fit in with the ability of the eyes to influence OR energy pulsation.

When I reviewed the techniques of cloud creation and destruction that Reich had applied in the successful use of the mechanical cloud-buster apparatus, my own hypothesis concerning the possible excitation of the atmospheric OR energy envelope by the visual ray seemed to crumble. To review: An existent cloud is destroyed when its high OR potential is decreased and a cloud is created when the even distribution of OR energy is disrupted. Pockets of lower OR potential are created. The adjacent areas of higher orgone energy content, in accordance with the principle of orgonomic potential, increase their OR potential at the expense of the weaker pockets. The process of attraction, charge and growth culminates in a cloud. The mechanical cloud-buster, in both cases, draws energy from the OR energy continuum. i.e., energy is withdrawn from, not added to, the atmosphere. Since the explanation for cloud formation under the influence of the visual ray hinges on the eye’s ability to excite, in the manner of the sun, an area of orgone energy into heightened pulsation; the draw method of mechanical cloud-busting refuted my contention.

THE PRAGMATIC TEST

Smaller clumps (fractocumulus) drifted above me. Their white contours were distinct, not fuzzy like they most often are in the polluted atmosphere on the mainland. Some of the larger cumulus literally boiled with energy and bulbous puffs of water vapor continuously sprouted from their margins. I watched this parade of clouds until I could no longer resist the temptation to put my assumptions to the test. I fixed my eyes on a small cloud. The seconds ticked by like minutes. I presumed that like the cloud-buster apparatus, I could dissipate this cloudlet. Instead it drifted on and away undiminished. Then I recalled my first attempt to see the luminescent OR energy points in the sky. I had failed because orgonotic contact had been blocked by tension. Sure enough, my muscles were tensed and the tingle had left my skin. I sat still for awhile with my eyes closed. When I looked up again a cumulus clouds overhead. I gazed directly at the center of it and followed its slow movement.

The effect that my steady gaze had on the cloud was unequivocal. It seemed to be transfixed by the visual ray. The opaque, white cloud’s motion slowed and gradually, in a matter of seconds, it became more transparent and less dense. Its sharp contours melted away and melted shreds of cloud floated where the whole, compact cumulus had been a minute before. There could be no doubt. I had dissipated the cloud with my visual ray. The water droplets were clearly seen to dissolve and the cloud lost cohesion as I drew the atmospheric orgone energy, life energy, from the cloud’s energy matrix. The cloud, objectively, was seen to dissipate and disappear from the clear blue sky in a time span of less than three minutes. These external, objective phenomena leave their internal, subjective impression on the organism. The inflow of atmospheric life energy from the cloud’s energy matrix through the eyes increases one’s visual acuity. In addition, slight currents or streamings can be felt in the body, especially in the legs. The excess energy apparently discharges into the earth via the legs.

THE INTRICACIES OF OCULAR CLOUD-BUSTING

1. The Visual Ray should be directed at the center of the cloud. This is the core of the energy matrix. It is the draw of life energy from this core that lowers the OR potential of the entire cloud. Once orgonotic-energetic contact between your organism and the cloud has been achieved, the sequence of the ocular bust is:
   1. The sharp, well-defined contours, the edges, begin to lose tension and become fuzzy.
   2. The opaque center of the cloud becomes transparent.
   3. The cloud’s entire periphery begins to fray.
   4. Where a cohesive cloud was minutes before, scattered patches of water vapor gradually dissipate altogether.

2. The organismic capacity for-ocular cloud-busting increases when the bioenergetic core, your autonomic nervous system, becomes charged. This is a cumulative process that depends on the quantity of atmospheric OR energy that flows into the body. One need not draw energy from a half dozen small clouds in order to increase potency. It is, in fact, advisable to draw initially from the largest cumulus cloud insight. It may take some time but thereafter any smaller cloud can easily be dissipated by the Visual Ray.

An existent cloud can be stimulated to grow by the excitation from the Visual Ray.
